Description

RPG Maker 2000 was many peoples' introduction to the world of RPG Maker and has just been released in English! Degica, by order of KADOKAWA GAMES/Enterbrain and with the cooperation of Cherry and Archeia_Nessiah, have added another notch in their belt of old releases.

To celebrate we're having an event celebrating the Golden Age of game making! Grab your version of the program (whichever that might be) and jump on the gammak train!

Of course, the IGMC is on and a lot of people are going to be playing with it, but for those who aren't... there's this!

  • Your game must be made in RPG Maker 2000, no matter which version you use. No other engine will be accepted.
  • Your game must be be at least 20 minutes long to count for a badge. Demos can only get the Demo badge, none of the others.
  • Your game must be submitted by the end of Sunday, July 26th. Check the time the event ends on the right and make sure your timezone in your account settings is correct.
  • You may use any resources as long as they aren't rips. Go custom, make edits, use the RTP or use graphics from packs that are already available. As long as they aren't rips, you're good to go. This includes music, sounds and the like.
  • Games must be playable without having to download the RTP files. This is due to the new files not currently being downloadable. That said, the RTP is about 30MB, if that, so just include it if you use any of the files.
  • No DynRPG or similar patches allowed. Base engine only guys!

  • You must abide by the theme.

To submit your game to the contest:
  • Create a new gameprofile (by going to Submissions > Submit Game). The game must go through RMN's standard game approval process. (Get your gameprofile submitted early so that you aren't at the mercy of the whims of the Submission Manager!)
  • After the gameprofile is approved, upload the game to the Downloads section of your gameprofile.
  • Come back to this event and submit the download for judging! There is a Submit button in the upper right of the event page.

When you think of old, golden age games, you think of the many cliches they used. Thus, in homage to the old days of game creation, we're taking you back. Back to the time of cliche-ridden games.

Using the above link your challenge is to pick a cliche from the list and either play it to the nines or subvert it completely.

You may choose more than one cliche, but one must be used and easily recognisable as either subverted, lampshaded or in use. The most cliche-filled game/s will receive a special badge, as will the games with the most recognisably subverted/lampshaded cliches.

We have four achievements. Full games can only get two of them.
  • Helen the All-Rounder: Complete in every way! Full games will receive this badge.
  • Carol the Half-baked Magician: Half-baked by name, half-baked by nature. Only demos will receive this badge.
  • Alex the Cliche Hero: He's the most obvious choice for a hero. The full game filled with the most cliche of cliches will receive this badge.
  • Brian the Unexpected Healer: Who expects a healer with an eye-patch? The full game filled with the most lampshaded cliches will receive this badge.

Again, I overreach myself, but this time, I didn't rush, so I only ended up with demo, but hopefully, it's better than what I usually end up submitting.
Just a heads-up - I'd messed up the timezones for the end - it's midnight, not whenever the hell it was projected as. orz

So it adds a few more hours for those who want to primp up their games. Remember, to add your game you need to upload it to the game page and then submit it via the top-right options.

When I create a game installer, and then try to run the game, I get this.

First of all, I have no idea how to fix this. Second of all, simply including all of the RTP files and zipping it up for everyone doesn't work. It still says that RTP isn't installed.

Missing LZH file: there is no advice on any RPG Maker web sites.
Copy the files yourself to each folder and zip it up. That should work. Sucks to do it manually, but it is a bug that Nessy and Cherry know about and I'm sure are trying to fix.

I was given the tip to copy the exe file from the illegal version into the game folder to overwrite the existing one in the meantime.

I'll add a link to the op to just that file so that you can do so. Hopefully it will work.

I did. It doesn't work. Firefly tried to play and it says RTP is not installed. That was the first download I made because I was having problems with the game installer. And I know I didn't miss any because I installed every folder directly. I guess people who don't own the official RPG Maker 2000 just don't get to play until the RTP is available.
Open the RPG_RT config file and add "FullPackageFlag=0" without the quotes. See if that helps.

(The config file can be found in the game folder amongst the maps and saves. It's usually right under the exe file for the game and on Windows 7 has a little gear on the icon by default. It'll open with Notepad and allow you to edit it. Don't forget to save!)

The program is looking for the RTP on the computer system, even if it's not installed. It might also be where you installed the RTP that's the issue - if it's looking in a particular place and can't find it, it's bound to kick up a fuss.

Adding the line above to the config file makes it stop looking for the RTP files, however, if a file is missing from the game folders that is used in the game (often something like Vehicles or one of the System sets or another RTP file that got overlooked) it will crash the game.

I was just going to try that.

Edit: Well, I guess I'll know one way or the other if I see downloads climb and nobody complains...or I start getting flooded with notices complaining about it not working. No news is good news.
hey guys, who of you would like to have your event game let's played?
IDK I should ask permission first so yeah
Allllllllso a new thing just hit me: we could have an 'ok with let's play' checkbox on gamepages :D
I see games, I wanna play games, my download's so slow right now .. but I shall. I shall enjoy myself ~
welp, time to start my game!
I'm having problems similar to what others have mentioned. Can't get the Rm2k installer to work, it says it has been created but then I can't find anything. Tried to gather up all the RTP stuff I used and put it in a zip file to test on a computer without 2k installed, still wants RTP installed. The "FullPackageFlag=0" thing didn't make a difference either.

I have no clue what to do about this. Should I even bother entering?

I just want to let everybody know that with the Steam version of the new English-language RPG Maker 2000, I wasn't able to create a game installer, but with the stand-alone version I could. If you're using the Steam version, make sure to also download the stand-alone version if you bought it through Humble Bundle.

@Volrath: ^^^ this

I have the stand alone version and that's what happened when I created a game installer. As for simply saving everything manually, RMN user ikeratz solved the problem with the RTP installation error. Use the line "FullPackageFlag=1"
Awesome, that worked! Thanks! Just hope I can get everything submitted in time...

Edit: The game's submitted. Mods, please forgive the current condition of the page. I promise I'll make it look decent when I'm not in such a rush.
You'd better go in and fix that page up because it needs a proper description and even if it's an event game I cannot make an exception. It takes less than 5 minutes to make a description and you've still got over an hour left. I'll be on the queue til the end, so go, fix.

further note, still probably wouldn't have been able to make it.. Ah well, I'm still gonna finish it and release it at some point in the next month or so
Oh, don't worry, I might not make it either if I can't get this stupid freakin skill to work omg slay me now ;.;

Welp, my submission got denied since I didn't make enough of an effort with the gamepage. For Christ's sake, I can pretty it up later, I just wanted it to have it available in time for the deadline but I guess that's not gonna happen. Thanks for the support!

I'm even more disappointed in you for not taking 5 minutes to write a description or getting your page in order before the very end and then throwing the blame on me because you couldn't be bothered to spend a few minutes when you had hours left to go. Seriously. It takes 5 fucking minutes. You have 20 left. Go write a description, resubmit.

The time you spent making this stupid comment and finding a picture of a cat and whatnot could have been spent actually writing a description and resubmitting. Don't blame me for your inability to get your shit into order, mate. :/

Edit: Yeah, I ain't gonna didn't make this in time for the event, but I will add up a download later today. Got a 3 year old on my hands who wants breakfast and playing with. ^.^;

Edit 2: Dude, thanks for not bothering. I've been sitting here for the last hour and a half - spending time I could have spent on my game - refreshing the Submissions queue just waiting for your fix to your damn game page. Time waste much? Yeah. :|
Congratulations to all who finished!

I know we've only got a small turn out this time around, but it was only ever going to be a small event with the IGMC on. Thanks to all for participating and I look forward to seeing how you all did! (I'll be downloading dem files now to play later~)

You did done good guys.
