Description

Halloween has come again and this time we let you guys pick the theme.

Fairy Tales are often stories told to give children a moralistic lesson. In and of themselves they can be pretty scary, but they tend to end happily or are resolved in a way that good triumphs in some way.

For this event you are being tasked with taking some of those Fairy Tales that you grew up with and giving them dark twists. From Little Red Riding Hood to Sleeping Beauty to Jack and the Beanstalk, any Fairy Tale is pickable. You can even smush a few together if you like!

- Games must be new - not an old game that you're finishing off - and should have been started after the event starting date. They must abide by site rules and be at least 10 minutes long.
- Submit a gamepage before the end of the event. It must abide by site rules and standards. Upload your game to your gamepage then submit via this event page.
- Team-ups are available.
- You may have more than one entry (in case you want to team up for one game with someone and make your own as well).
- You may pick any Fairy Tale you like, from anywhere in the world - it just has to be recognisable as that story when presented in the game.*
- Start Date: 1st of October
- End date: Midnight of 31st October - SITE TIME! (Remember to change your hourly offset in Settings so you have the right time show up on the page!)

There are three badges up for grabs.
- The Shattered Slipper: 50 MS for a completed game.
- The Bloody Apple: 10 MS for a demo.
- The Bone-filled Oven: 50 MS for being picked by our judge, LockeZ, as the best of the bunch. (Only complete games will be judged!)

That is, having a story based on little red riding hood and it being about a girl called Ridley who goes to school and kills all her friends... well, it might have inspired something of the plot (maybe) but it's not recognisable as such. But a girl who gets convicted of killing her grandmother and runs to hide in the woods where she meets a down-and-out lawyer called Wolfe who tries to help her but finds out that she has a second personality called Cutter who likes to, well, axe questions... that is recognisable as being based in said Fairy Tale.

That's some cool grimm looking port, Craze.
This looks glorious! A dream come true!
First! Yayyyy! It obviously means my game is the best quality one.

And yes, my game is complete. There is a secret passage somewhere. There are two endings, a sucky one and a "good" one.

Also, leveling exists, but as I explained in a local event, you level up after you rest. Straight grind does nothing.

If anyone wants help with their game, I'm pretty much free for much of the next 2 weeks. Just drop a PM, and if I find the project interesting, just add me and I'll help. I suppose I could add more screens to the thing, but honestly, I can't think of anything.

Finished a simple inventory system, it's gone a bit deeper than I thought. Complete with being able to swap items that are on the ground.
Guys... I have a tiny little doubt... I thought that my game was really perfect for the event, but lately I am afraid that I am out of theme. I don't think my fairytale is thaaaat twisted... It's not really dark themed, like it should be. Is that a problem? I don't have much time now to start anew T^T
just add some vore at the end
The badges are awarded for completed games, not if they have a dark twist. Only thing you might miss out on is the judges pick. And of course there is the shame of not following the theme exactly.
But I thought makerscore was all that matters?

Like, in life?

Mine isn't that scary either. I tried to have finished, simple, and correct. Kinda a short and sweet game that doesn't have a ton of glitches.

Just add in a few twists. Like, maybe Sleeping Beauty isn't really sleeping, she is a zombie and eats your brains when you wake her.

Yeah, I'm just trying to keep my story close to the original with a little bit of horror elements to keep it interesting and entertaining.
What's the story you're doing, HorrorBox?

I thought it was pretty interesting for awhile when I read it,
so thats what I decided to do this event.
You just wiki'd the word This.

Fixed, I think.

The twist might be that he doesn't/can't hide, so he has to last until midnight (after which the cats save him). Or he gets eaten. I did the story of Izanagi/Izanami. It's a myth, not a fairy tale, but I told as much as possible up until his getting out of the Underworld (he doesn't). Also, the bad ending is... interesting.

Tbh, my original is super original to bend to make it fit my needs.
But I expected to have more time this month. I might need to make many placeholder decisions and update the game post-release with original graphics.
Also, my game's very likely to end up being silent in this release, which might harm its reputation.

That's very cool. I'll have to play it once I get the chance, and the myth you picked was very interesting itself.
As for my game, I do want to try to have the player to stay alive for a specific amount of time, but have a secret twist that isn't in the story itself, and maybe 2-3 endings.

I'd better not be the only submitter. Just saying.
Welp, it took a lot longer than I had hoped, but I got the engine basically working for the point+click. You can walk between rooms, pick up items, and read descriptions.

I'll get a game page up once I have some non-placeholder rooms done.
