Description

M.O.G. "My Own Game" Multipart Event - Game Creation

In this event we will attempt create a game using resources generated during the previous MOG events.

The intent is to get people out of their comfort zones and attempt the different aspects of game creation. The M.O.G. initiative be a 3-part event, with each event focusing on a different aspect - soundtrack, graphics, and game creation. This event will focus on the GAME. The graphics event focused on tilesets, charsets, and battlers and the like, and the music event focused on soundtracks and sound effects. This is the final event of the MOG creation series, wherein we create a game but only using resources created in the previous two events (+ general public resources or resources you create yourself or RTP, to fill gaps)!

This is a pretty ambitious undertaking, but it sounds pretty satisfying, too!

The MOG Music and MOG Graphics events are still running, but they wrap up later this month, so if you have any special requests or gaps that need filling, now is the time to ask! Or encourage people there who have started something to finish their work. (Knowing that someone wants to use your stuff is great motivation).

If you use resources by someone else in the MOG Graphics and/or Music events, please include them in your gameprofile's 'Developers' as Other (and specify what you used)

Like, if you used Ratty524's awesome battlers, do:

Other (Battlers) - Ratty524

The bonus makerscore for resource creators is part of the event, so if you would be so kind as to included them in your gameprofile, it would be much appreciated!

This event is asking you to make a game, or make a demo/prototype. As such, you will need to have a gameprofile accepted by RMN (and subject to RMN's submission rules), to participate. Once ready, you will have to submit your game's download to this event (using the Submit button in the upper right). Multiple games are welcome (if you are so inclined)!

THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION

We are doing this for the betterment of our game development skills. Familiarization with other aspects of game development, even if we never develop the expertise to be proficient in it, is still very valuable. That being said, I will be giving out achievements for:

-Full game
-Demo/Prototype game
-A gameprofile will good mapping examples

By that last one, what I mean is you've started work on a game using the MOG resources, but didn't generate anything playable yet.

Works submitted to this event are expected to be free to play.

While the event is very RPG-centric (hey, we are RPG Maker Network afterall!), feel free to create a game for any genre of your choice.

It is my sincere hope that those of us here who are energetic game developers might share with us their expertise and learning. Either by helping out individuals in the comments section, offering advice, or posting links to useful resources, or even as far as writing tutorials of their own.

Members who take it upon themselves to be super-helpful in this event will receive a special achievement!

Might not be the latest but here you go.

Thanks.

Personally, I'm going to focus more on the story than with how the game looks in general... (Although, I'm not going to make it look below average either...) If someone would like to help me work on the story for this project then PM me and I will give you some details that I have already fleshed out. I normally work alone, but since this isn't a competition, I would like to have more fun with it than I usually would have! :3

Here are screenshots of the actual game itself (Only 2 because I just started...):

Well, today was unproductive! ^_^ I'm on break finally, so I basically did nothing but slack off and play the kingdom hearts remix today. I'm just getting to work on my game again before bed.

Anyway, first dungeon is essentially done. It's all carved out, and everything but the final (BIG) story event in it is done and tested. I've made the controversial decision to leave all combat creation and balancing until the very end. I'm doing all the mapping and events first.

When I'm finally done that first dungeon's last event, I can start showing screenshots, as I'll be done using RTP for the remainder of the project.
What a crazy two weeks its been! I haven't even started, and now I have to scale back my already-small scope of my game. And I haven't made any significant progress in my tileset. Sorry guys whom might be waiting for it.

Anywho, a gameprofile for my entry Explore Because Stuff! is forthcoming.
Hmmm...I wonder if this is the same place...

So, I just finnished the last map (for now, I'll may need some more) and I want to share my joy. I am amused by the beauty of Yuna's Parallaxes, they are just superb. These Neo-retro tiles just fit my style and, what is better, they fit with Joseph's characters. I am bit afraid, my game will look as all the other games in the competition.
What can't be captured within the picture is the sound. I fell in love with Shensetta's tracks. I wonder if someone else is using them as well?

The name will be A Man Called Dungeon and I will make profile tomorrow as I populate more places.
Oh wow that is really pretty.
You made a cliff map with Kentona's graphics?! And you made it look THAT good?!

My hat is off to you, good sir!
I don't know, it's all noisy and fuzzy because you JPEGd a pixel art screenshot.
I'm really chuffed to see my stuff being used. :3

As for me, well, I have around 45+ mins done on Accelerated World already, so I just need to do the Wham ending and test, hopefully before the New Year.

Screenies:

Preview battle system for Kitten Mita by Egg Team.
We try to uploud demo for chapter one before christmas.
I approve of adding random animal ears to things.

Welp, I pretty much tried, but until the 2nd I'm not going to have access to my PC to work on all of my projects (I'm housesitting for my sister, and I'm using a Mac to take care of some other work), so I'm more than likely going to miss this deadline. It's cool to see what everyone else is doing, though.

@WolfCoder: Are you using recolored versions of my tileset? It looks nice!
Yes, but you'll have to give credit to DarkFox, he's the one who colored almost all your tiles so far. I've been working on adding the oddball or so required feature to RPG20XX that would complete the game demo I have in mind.

I did have to draw an entirely new set of system graphics and icons, though. It's all in RPG20XX format, but I'll release them as an update if you don't mind converting/using RPG20XX.

looks nice. I'm unlikely to make anything on my own in time but i can help someone else maybe.
Still waiting approval for Kitten Mita...
I think it is better to give a little update here.

Simple day and night.

UUuugghhhh *face into desk*

So the story and all the main events for my game are done, and I've submitted a gamepage.

However, the gameplay part of the freakin' game are VERY far from done. And I've been working non-stop. :s Like, I've been putting in almost 8 hours a day for the last 2 days.

It's likely I might not be able to finish in time, or I'll have a VERY unbalanced game (too easy or too hard).

Thanks,
Kentona's tiles fits me really well. They are bit limited (I have blacksmith in every town), but otherwise they look superb.
Also having pic of the moment is really nice. Here is my gamepage with
download of the first version: A Man Called Dungeon
Also, I downloaded Accelerated World and seems amazing.
