Description

Release Something! Day is back. For those of you who are unaware as to what RS!D is, it is an event wherein we release something on a predetermined date. That "something" can be a work-in-progress demo, an OST, a video, or whatever. And then right after that release, everyone plays everyone else's stuff.

This is the first time one of these will be run as an event. There are some limitations though - only game downloads can be submitted to the "official" event submission. But that's okay! I will manually compile all of the other types of submissions and update the event page.

Some rules:
1. If you are posting a game demo, make a Gameprofile and simply submit the download
2. If you are posting other media (like screens or music) submit it to the site and then post a link to it in the comments
3. If you are posting a review submit it to the site and post the title of the review, the title of the game and a link to the review

I've coincided the Release Day (December 1st) with the end of the National Game Development Month. This was on purpose. Work on your games for the NaGaDeMo, and then showcase them here on Release Something! Day 11!

Like always, the aim is to truly try to capture the spirit of releasing something. It is not about prepping a major release, or making something in a fury to have something new to show for the event. It is about showing your works-in-progress, getting feedback, and checking out what other people are working on. Like a snapshot of RMN's development community.

Yeah. I'm the guy who wasn't George Michael. ;___;
Finally! This time I think I might have something for releasing! ;v;
10 minutes of gameplay of Shadow Sadness ;v;b
Or a whole hour, if I don't fix the obnoxiously high difficulty of the game.
I have decided my game will be a parody of the net, RMN, Final Fantasy, a little bit of Dragon Quest and Fire Emblem. Also will be filled with early usergroups and SE Lain. Long live the Mongolian Utopia! XD
does posting media like a game trailer count?

yes, but not as much
i'm not sure what that means "not as much" - there's value placed on your submission? i just saw this event, figure to post what i've got so far

Don't mind that. You can release anything you like, so long as you release something.

I think I might join in.
I have a quick idea I can make for the event.

Hope I'm not the only one making a SMBX thing... I'm feeling out of place.
Is SMBX nothing or something? If it's something, you're not. ♥

EDIT: Er... Not out of place, I mean.
Holy crap! It's the return of the epic "Release Something Day!" I missed these!

Good to see it back. You guys are bringing a lot of old stuff from RMN's past that were so enjoyable to see and read during my earlier years on the site... Now we just need the "Podcasts" to return and we're golden! :D

Good luck to everybody involved. ^^
I thought the podcast is still there, but they're just too lazy to upload new stuff...

Hell, tons of people participate. Why was RS!D deactivated by the way?

Correction. You're too lazy to upload new stuff! Anyone can upload a webcast now (they are a type of article).

EDIT:
as a bit of background and before we all go "lol blame WIP!" - yes, he was never a fan of them and decreed that we aren't going to have anymore, but I also went with it, due to declining interest.
I'm not lazy. Microphones don't work with my netbook D-:

There absolutely isn't a value, which was precisely my point; I'd much rather see some very raw, unpolished gameplay then an absolutely slick trailer or video or map screenshot, is my point.

To me, releasing something interactive is the true spirit of Christmas Release Something Day.

I mean, let's be honest--a game trailer isn't what you've got. It's not the first thing you did--no one works that way. It's a piece of hype-generating media you created fairly far into the process, which is totally fine. But I'd much rather see whatever gameplay the trailer's based on, personally. Just put that sucker out there.

Releasing carefully sculpted trailers and screenshots is not in the spirit of the original release something day, which I participated in when it was created (four score and) seven years ago this past April by Saint Lysander86. Just release something playable--it doesn't matter how unfinished it is or how bad it sucks.

There is no such thing as "not ready" for RSD.
But how to make people play unprepared stuff?
What exactly IS in the "spirit of the original RS!D"?
