Description

Release Something! Day is back. For those of you who are unaware as to what RS!D is, it is an event wherein we release something on a predetermined date. That "something" can be a work-in-progress demo, an OST, a video, or whatever. And then right after that release, everyone plays everyone else's stuff.

This is the first time one of these will be run as an event. There are some limitations though - only game downloads can be submitted to the "official" event submission. But that's okay! I will manually compile all of the other types of submissions and update the event page.

Some rules:
1. If you are posting a game demo, make a Gameprofile and simply submit the download
2. If you are posting other media (like screens or music) submit it to the site and then post a link to it in the comments
3. If you are posting a review submit it to the site and post the title of the review, the title of the game and a link to the review

I've coincided the Release Day (December 1st) with the end of the National Game Development Month. This was on purpose. Work on your games for the NaGaDeMo, and then showcase them here on Release Something! Day 11!

Like always, the aim is to truly try to capture the spirit of releasing something. It is not about prepping a major release, or making something in a fury to have something new to show for the event. It is about showing your works-in-progress, getting feedback, and checking out what other people are working on. Like a snapshot of RMN's development community.

You're overthinking it.

The spirit is: just release anything, just anything, don't obsess about quality or polish or presentation, just get it out the door.

And then play everything everyone released...because don't you want them to play what YOU released? Like, don't be an asshole.

That's it, that's the true spirit of RMChristmas. Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you.
Sounds good in theory, but you know how reality is: Nobody has time to play anything. Everybody has spent his last free time to work on his own stuff...
Actually, it has worked well in the past. People do get down and play the releases (people have even made podcasts and write-ups on it). It's a festival like atmosphere.

There absolutely isn't a value, which was precisely my point; I'd much rather see some very raw, unpolished gameplay then an absolutely slick trailer or video or map screenshot, is my point.

To me, releasing something interactive is the true spirit of Christmas Release Something Day.

There is no such thing as "not ready" for RSD.

no, I understand, see if I can put something together
I was going to release a video, but Max drained out my motivation. :(

I have plenty of time. Heck, I'm still thinking about doing some lps for a couple of games here in a few weeks.

I played the RS!D releases even when my schedule is packed. So saying that nobody has time to play anything is like "what?" :P
If I remember correctly, most of the user base are around in their highschool or something, they have more time than college students that's for sure =v=)b

I'm excited to see new ideas, etc. I don't see why some people wouldn't like to build up their own stuff or play some that could be potentially good.
Just because you're that way, doesn't mean everyone else is. They'll be people who plays the games, they'll be people who don't. That's just how it is.

Release it anyway! And in the past, Release Something has worked out in both theory AND practice (no mean feat!)
I really have nothing to release, but I was thinking about making a video with a cutscene of an rm2k3 I like... a cutscene that wasn't there, some sort of "deleted scenes". Not sure which game though.

I'm thinking one of the following...
Dhux's Scar
Wither
Space Funeral
I'm Scared of Girls
A Blurred Line

Guys just release it.

I am going to release a demo with really bad spriting because it's SOMETHING even if I haven't finished all the sprite sheets.

Release A Thing.
I guess I'll give it a shot.... a demo should do just fine.

Ehh.... maybe not, but it's tempting....

I would like you to try a cutscene of ABL, that would be a feat.

That indeed would be the most interesting option, but it's been a while since I've played it, I would have to replay it to remember relevant stuff.

If you only played it once what's more a long time ago, don't hesitate, you'll love it. Double benefit (so you can also try making the cutscene).

I'd love to see that too!
Is this only for ONE day? O.K...but in case, who wants to be part of my RPG maker 2k3 team? As in helping me make a new trailer for JailBreakOut?
