Description

Last year you made new games of horror and suspense. This year we're doing something different. Break out your ouija boards, people, and get prepared to tackle some ghosts!

It's time to raise the dead...

This is an event that will focus on breathing new life in to old games, to taking from the past and remaking the future.

The idea of the competition is to take an old game and rework it back into being. It can be a cancelled project, a project idea that didn't work out or something you lost in the past for whatever reason. You can build off the base of the old project or start something new using the ideas that you had. Revive, rework, restore, remake... it's up to you. As long as something of the original project remains then it counts.

Each entry will gain two badges - one for participation and one for the area in which they worked.

Those areas are:=
Revival - Taking parts of a dead project and bringing it back. Parts can include resources, ideas, systems and the like. Note that it doesn't have to be built off the remains of a game, but should have something of the old game in it. You can, however, use the old game as base if you want to. Needs to be a complete game, though.

Rebirth - Taking the ideas that you once had in an old game and reusing them to build a new game instead. This game shouldn't be the old game - it should be new, but use ideas and such that are old. Needs to be a complete game, though.

Reanimate - Taking an old project and building off it in the intent to finish. You do not need to complete the game - a new build or demo with sufficient additions will grant you this badge.

Readying - Taking part and trying, even if all you end up with are words on a page. This will be granted to people who take part in the comment section when certain questions and mini-challenges are thrown there.

At the end of the event the four judges will pick their favourite game each and award a special prize. There will also be a prize for the Most Valuable Participator.

Judges for this event are Nessiah, Unity, Gourd and Liberty.

+ You must start reworking your dead projects/ideas on the 1st of October and have until the 30th to finish. All are due on the 30th of October, 12 Midnight, EST.

+ Games must have all files included that have been used. If you don't know how to set it so that no RTP is required, just ask.

+ The main focus of your game must come from an old idea, lost or cancelled game or series of ideas/games.

+ The game must be complete at the deadline to count for a badge and MS. If it is not complete, you can still gain a participation badge by participating in the discussions and feedback in the comment section of this event.

+ You may have more than one team, more than one game. Teams of up to ten are allowed.

+ You may use any engine you wish.

+ When you add your complete game, please me know which category it falls under.

Any questions and queries, ask in the comments below.

If I wasn't so busy designing for Buck & Miles, I'd be all over this. It'd be fun to give rebirth to one of my original games.
Aren't all games technically old ideas that have been stewing in the back of one's mind for ages? Or is that just me?
This is more games/ideas that you actually tried to make games of and failed. Reviving those and bringing them back to life.

The first thing that came into my head was a reboot/revisit of Legacy Reborn. I dunno, though. My thoughts have been on not-that for ages.
Do we have to join a group, or can we just work alone?
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Well, all of the current groups so far consist of a single person working alone.

You need to name your group, but you don't need to have anyone other than yourself in it.
What qualifies as an abandoned project for the purposes of this event? Is it just at our own discretion?

Regardless, I've got a silly Twine fan-game that I could probably finish up for this.
I believe you forgot the C in Tackle.

Sadly I am unable to participate in this. :C Nothing to rework, nothing plus nothing leaves nothing. Plus, I'm in the graphics/music event.

Please don't spam in this topic, thanks. No one wants to see event-wide notices that TungerManU has realized he's intelligent enough to paraphrase one of the rules, or that MajoracanKing wanted to tell us that he's probably not doing anything.

(Actually can we just lock the event comments? This isn't a cooperative event so there's no reason for anyone but the moderators to post here. If anyone has a question, that's what PMs are for, since the only person who can answer them is Liberty.)
Seiromem
I would have more makerscore If I did things.

What if Liberty's not awake (She probably won't be when I am!) yet there's someone else who can answer your question?
How would one win the participation badge if there's no discussion to be had?

Speaking of discussion, what idea are you guys thinking of reviving? I'm thinking along the lines of a Rebirthing Slimey's New Adventure, as I had a few good ideas there that weren't well executed.
Settlers of Kentan perhaps, or Aether Pulse. Maybe Nu Supra Mairo Bors. Or possibly the Alicorn/Unicorn of Death game I brainstormed with Despite. Or maybe the post-apoc futurist RPG I had brainstormed and discussed with NewBlack. Or I might try to revive my Veridian Dance RTS/RPG idea and make a game of it. Or maybe my old Missiongarde community game RPG. Maybe I'll redo Runelords (I kind of liked the story/characters). Or maybe one of these ideas:

Android Dryad
The King and Guy
Forgotten Lands clone
The Imaginarium Kids in "There's Snow Stopping Us Now!"
Good morning! You have amnesia!
How To Evolve Your Dragon

So many options!
I think this a fantastic idea for an event; definitely a bit of a curb ball compared to the other Halloween type of events that we’ve had in the past (as I was pretty sure that it was going to be another “All Hallow’s Eve” event again, but no - I was wrong this time).

If it wasn’t for the fact that, A, I’m already working on reviving something (technically) since last year that still isn’t done and is still giving me constant mental breakdowns whenever I look at it / fix it and, B, I’m extremely, extremely – EXTREMELY - slow when it comes to making anything or doing anything game related, like, way slower than Kentona even (sorry, bud), then I would probably jump all over this as I have soooooo many games here that have been around since the dawn of time (I.E. 2002 - 2013) that I would seriously love to finish and complete someday, but before October 30th? I…just don’t see it happening, as these things kinda take time.

Then again…I do have “Heavenly Orb,” a game that I was sort of remaking from an old build for a little while (that I still have, actually) from 2003 that I could quickly throw together and maybe get a participation badge out of it…but the old version is shitttttt…

For now, I’ll just write my name down and see from where it goes. Maybe I’ll do something - maybe I won’t. It’s just too bad that I’m so god, dang slow.
This won't really spawn games that has anything to do with Halloween. What I liked about the old events was that I could sit down and play some games that got me in the mood for Halloween.
I might go and finish that thing I started like four years ago. Technically it's for an already completed game and it's more "make it not complete and total brain burning garbage" with the goal of improving it to strike the brain burning part. Technically I did work on it twice this month, which is more than I worked on it in the year prior, but I'll submit it if I finish it and oh no if I don't get MS because of that. The important thing is that it'll be done and I can stop smacking somebody with a shovel in an attempt to make it go away.

hahaha who am I kidding
You win by making the best revived game possible and getting the most MS from your entry. Now go go go!

This seems like one of those events that was made for people like me, but there is no way in hell I'd ever finish something for it. :(
Alright, so I just tweaked the event a little. Each judge will pick their personal favourite game of those released. Demos will now count, and there's an MVP award for the comment activities that will be going on.

Fair warning, there might be a lot of comments for this event so if you don't want your inbox inundated it might be a good idea to go into your subscription settings and turn notifications for it off.

Any questions, just ask and... first participation minvent is a go!
Which of your games are you thinking about using for this event?
