Description

Last year you made new games of horror and suspense. This year we're doing something different. Break out your ouija boards, people, and get prepared to tackle some ghosts!

It's time to raise the dead...

This is an event that will focus on breathing new life in to old games, to taking from the past and remaking the future.

The idea of the competition is to take an old game and rework it back into being. It can be a cancelled project, a project idea that didn't work out or something you lost in the past for whatever reason. You can build off the base of the old project or start something new using the ideas that you had. Revive, rework, restore, remake... it's up to you. As long as something of the original project remains then it counts.

Each entry will gain two badges - one for participation and one for the area in which they worked.

Those areas are:=
Revival - Taking parts of a dead project and bringing it back. Parts can include resources, ideas, systems and the like. Note that it doesn't have to be built off the remains of a game, but should have something of the old game in it. You can, however, use the old game as base if you want to. Needs to be a complete game, though.

Rebirth - Taking the ideas that you once had in an old game and reusing them to build a new game instead. This game shouldn't be the old game - it should be new, but use ideas and such that are old. Needs to be a complete game, though.

Reanimate - Taking an old project and building off it in the intent to finish. You do not need to complete the game - a new build or demo with sufficient additions will grant you this badge.

Readying - Taking part and trying, even if all you end up with are words on a page. This will be granted to people who take part in the comment section when certain questions and mini-challenges are thrown there.

At the end of the event the four judges will pick their favourite game each and award a special prize. There will also be a prize for the Most Valuable Participator.

Judges for this event are Nessiah, Unity, Gourd and Liberty.

+ You must start reworking your dead projects/ideas on the 1st of October and have until the 30th to finish. All are due on the 30th of October, 12 Midnight, EST.

+ Games must have all files included that have been used. If you don't know how to set it so that no RTP is required, just ask.

+ The main focus of your game must come from an old idea, lost or cancelled game or series of ideas/games.

+ The game must be complete at the deadline to count for a badge and MS. If it is not complete, you can still gain a participation badge by participating in the discussions and feedback in the comment section of this event.

+ You may have more than one team, more than one game. Teams of up to ten are allowed.

+ You may use any engine you wish.

+ When you add your complete game, please me know which category it falls under.

Any questions and queries, ask in the comments below.

But I don't understand how I could never get it to work before. It's the same thing and I always did the same thing and it's the same thing I just did now. What's different this time?

Sorry for being snippy, Locke, but this is a problem I haven't been able to solve for the year and half I've been here. I finally resigned myself to spacing characters that ran together.

OOOO, I better go fix that, now!

Ahem.

It was 2002.

Even that is probably no excuse.

I cannot believe I publicly released a game with this title screen. It bad touches the eyes. I guess on the plus side it is...stark?
Just remember to delete the old fonts first! Otherwise it won't work. ^.^

I'm liking all these titles, guys~
I don't expect the game to have an actual title until maybe October 25th at the earliest, so we have not put any thought into a title screen yet, haha. I'm still learning the engine and don't even know how to customize the title screen yet.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Being snippy is fine. Someone learned something, so I is happy.
The whole font thing with 2k(3) is beyond me, I just know whatever Kentona uploaded to his gameprofile works every time I try and just repeatedly use that whenever I need to fix the font for that. It's one of the reasons why I dropped 2k(3) and will never go back to it.

I see your 2002 and raise you a 2000!

At least you had the good sense to give a background so your title is easy to read! (and centered (and related to your game) )

Just found this gem digging around in the old project file you guys. Roflcopters until the end of time.

Gosh this is like being an archaeologist uncovering ancient texts.

Complete game coming in 2003 INDEED, past self, INDEED. Right....

Hey kentona ;)
Please leave it in, even as a game over event or something. That's hilarious and very relatable

Hahaha holy shit this was Vindication's original title screen

What is this even from, it's gotta be as old as the internet

Edit: Apparently it's from a "3D Wallpaper" site called Digital Blasphemy that is, well, not as old as a website can get, but older than the first English patch for RM95.
I have no idea! Either random searching on the internet for a a title screen or a CD full of various art that I used in the past including for this game over screen (aspect ratios? What's that?) Old as the internet is a pretty good guess though!

e: Hahaha neat. Mystery solved!
Memories~~~

And damn it, Max! Quit jumping ahead of the show and tell schedule! ;.;

That said, here's Love's Requiem's old Title Screen. No, I've not a new one yet. I've been having trouble just messing with the game - so much so that I was going to change to another, shorter game I had cancelled a few years ago.. only to have some weird bug occur and destroy the game on me. So I'm back to LR instead. :<

This was made around the time I started reconsidering just taking images from online and using them for title screens. That is, when I started to realise that artists kinda owned their works and probably wouldn't appreciate them being shown in shitty RM games. That said, for all that I messed this image the fuck up... it was originally an anime screencap. Because young me was an idiot, apparently. XD

The image also had sweet fuck all to do with the game itself. I don't know. I just said I was an idiot back then. >.<

@Liberty: The left half of that is not actually ultra terrible, if you wanted random fluffy abstract art. You missed the apostrophe in your own title though, that's impressive.

@pianotm: That font patch is the reason I make actual installers for RPG Maker 2000/2003 games in Inno Setup instead of just distributing the game disk. If you don't make your own installer though make sure you have a link to the font patch prominently on the top of your game page. Most people will just hit the DOWNLOAD button without checking to see if there are multiple downloads.
Or add it to the folder and put in the Read Me file how to install.

Yeah... I never really noticed the missing apostrophe. Oops. XD The actual reason there's only half an image? That was as big as the image I found was and instead of blowing it up I just used what there was. XP

I stopped reading readme files when 98% of software started using them just for listing the credits and license. I think most people did the same. Never mind that the shortcut on their desktop doesn't open the readme file anyway.
Yeah, I don't read them any more. Actually, I lie. That implies I ever bothered to read them - I never did. If your game doesn't teach me how to play it inside the actual game then fuck you. Also if your game doesn't tell me the story inside the game, fuck you again.

Wow such hate for READMEs!

Here is the new title screen (and for that matter the new title). It is...much better (but that's what 12 years experience of making title screens attached to completely unfinished games will do).

I hope you all will be seeing a lot of it around here in the future. : )
