Description

Halloween approaches and it's that time of year when we remember the dead and dying. This year, instead of the typical horror-fest, we're going to be doing something about the corpses mouldering in our backyards.

That is, those games we never got around to finishing but always said "One day..." about. It's time to grab a shovel, dig up a dead one and lay it on the slab. Let's Frankenstein this thing!

Aim
The aim of this event is to take an old game that hasn't been touched in a while and bring it back to life with the intention of finishing it by the end of the month.

Event Rules
- Pick a game that's been out of commission for a while. I'm not going to be picky about how long they've been dead, as long as you haven't been actively working on it in for a while, it'll count.
- Work on it with the intent to finish before the due date (3rd December).
- Post progress updates at least once a week until the end date. I'll talk about that a bit more below.
- Finish the game by the due date and submit it to this page.

Rewards
If you do not finish your game in time, you'll get a participation badge for taking part in the event. This will be a low MS reward, but there will be supplemented rewards for taking part. This badge requires that at least one progress update badge to unlock.

If you actually complete the game and submit it to the site by the due date, you'll also get a badge. This badge requires at least two progress update badges to unlock.

Each of the four progress updates will net you a different badge and these will give you a tidy amount of MS too, so if you're not sure that you'll be able to finish your game in time, aim to take part in them!

Progress Updates
Over the course of the month (roughly once a week) you'll be asked for an update on your progress. Each time you'll be asked for something different - whether it be screenshots of current work, details of changed/finished components or other information.

To earn either of the main badges you must take part in some of these (not all of them, but it's encouraged that you do take part). You will be encouraged to give feedback to each other and post WIP pieces as well as finished stuff, so that everyone can keep abreast of how each other is doing. We're a community of developers, after all, even if it's just a hobby for some, so interacting and helping each other grow and encouraging each other is definitely something to aim for!

There will also, over the month, be a room on the RMN discord for people to talk about this event in particular and how they're going with their games for it. I encourage everyone taking part to join up and mingle.

First Update: Choose the game you are going to use and make a list of things that need changing/fixing/doing.

Second Update: Show off new vs old images and tell us a bit about your game.

Third Update: Fill in the survey below.
What have you accomplished on your project thus far?

What unexpected challenges have you run into in reviving your game?

How far through making the game would you say you are, currently?

Now that you've actually started working on the game, do you think you'll finish in time?

Can you see any big challenges that you might have to deal with in order to complete the game?

Is there anything in particular that you'd need help with in order to get past these challenges?

Would you be willing to ask others to help you with these possible issues?

Fourth Update: Make a game page, show off a screenshot of something new (gameplay-wise) and tell us how the gammak goes.

Fifth Update: Make a blog post detailing what you've done since the start of this event to where you are now in the game.

SIXTH PROGRESS UPDATE: BEGIN

Add your game download to the site and have it tagged for testers. Then get someone to do a test of what you have. Post their notes here, then put up your game for reaslies and add it to this page before the 3rd

FAQs
Do we need to make a gamepage?
If you already have an existing gamepage you don't need to make another. However, if your game is not already on the site, then you will have to make a gamepage for it as it is a requirement for submitting the games this time.

I will be checking the queue fairly often over the course of the event, especially towards the end, so the sooner you get your gamepages in, the better. If you need help getting your gamepage accepted, just PM me (Liberty) and I can help you out a bit, but usually I'll be giving you the same information as I give in the notes when a gamepage is denied so make sure to check those first! Also, the information in this thread is very useful: https://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/5673/

How do I submit?
You must have a gamepage that has been accepted to the site and upload a version of your game there first. Then make sure you've signed up to this event. After that, hit the Submit button in the top-right corner of this page and pick your game from the list.

Is there a limit on the age of the game?
Nope. All that matters is that you haven't touched it in a while.

Can I just remake one of my old games that didn't get finished?
Yes, actually. All that matters is that the game in question exists before this event and hasn't been touched in a while. How you bring it back to life is up to you. Whether that means remaking it from the ground up or taking a half-finished game and scaling it down to fit within the month is up to you.

What about a game that's complete but needs some bug fixes and/or edits? Will that count?
I'm afraid not. It's really not in the spirit of the event - that is, taking something that isn't complete and bringing it back from that shallow (or deep) grave in order to spring back to complete 'health' again.

Can I just make a new game instead?
Again, not really in the spirit of the event, so no. Sorry, maybe next time.

Teams? Multiple entries?
If you want to team up with someone to help revive your game, that's definitely a-okay. Aside from that, there are some games out there that started with groups and just died. If those people want to get back together and try to finish the game, that's all well and dandy too. And sometimes an artist might be helping one team and have their own game as well. That's why I've allowed both teaming and multiple entries.

FOURTH PROGRESS UPDATE: BEGIN

= Make a Game Page:
Night of Marian Game Page!

= Show off a screenshot of something new, gameplay-wise.

Since this is a revival of an old RPG Maker 2003/VX game, I have to start 100% from scratch. Right now, the game is in Visual Novel Maker and is undergoing massive changes. This screenshot is done with Tiled Map Editor with a walking sprite. Since it's really early to have "gameplay" shots this is the only thing I can show off.

= How goes the gammak?
Very very well. I have a Trello board with full of information that I cannot share.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

You guys can seriously stop putting your updates in hide tags since they're the primary content of this event. It's a bit backwards to hide the primary content and only show the personal conversations.
Game Page submitted! Will have a lot more images than what I'm showing here.

Gameplay image:

A glimpse of my battle system I've been working on. There's no mana bar. Before, the skills were limited by cool downs. "Release Rockets", for example, was on a 4 turn cool down as it's a rather powerful skill. Other skills, such as a very powerful "Drill Arm" that's unlocked early, was on an 8 turn cool down.

This cool down system wasn't very fun for me, so I decided to try something different: limited casts between recovery points. Just as its name implies, you have a limited number of casts of each skill before you have to recover and replenish your casts. That way, if you want to bust out your "Drill Arm" skill, you get 2 or 3 shots of it... until you next recover. It's a lot more pro-active and entertaining than the cool down system I was using.

How goes the gammak?

Awful, honestly. I haven't been able to do anything these last few days. Not only have I been busy with tons of work, but I've got a cold I'm dealing with right now that's put me down. Hopefully later this month I'll have more time for this.
I would've tried finishing Gatekeeper, but knowing me, at best, I would've completed like one dungeon. Game making was easier when all I had to do was go to school lol
Progress Update #4
Game Page: https://rpgmaker.net/games/3936/
Something new:

Here is the equipment upgrade system which still needs lots more work.

As for how goes the game making, well unless you're talking about In Search of Dragons the game I'm meant to be working on. It does however have s shiny new prequel! We're just in the testing phase for Abyssal Shine: Nevermelt our IGMC entry, it has strong links to In Search of Dragons, at least two of the playable characters from AS:N will be turning up in ISOD. It also marked our joint eigth game which is set in arum, to celebrate I made a timeline to keep track of it all.

I'm still pushing for an avengers style team up. My hearts says yes and my brain says it'll never happen.

Come monday (or tuesday after a day of rest) I'll be resuming work on ISOD and will hopefully have more to share.
PROGRESS UPDATE #4

Make a gamepage= Coming soon

Show off a screenshot of something new, gameplay-wise=

How goes the gammak?

Good... I guess?
GAMEPROFILE
I had two one already so it'd be cheating if I left it as is. So I did a bit of updating the CSS to it. Check out Altima's gameprofile here! I do want to do more to it but that'll have to wait for now.

(hopefully I don't give any headaches this time)

SCREENSHOT OF NEW GAMEPLAY
My recent work hasn't involved much for new gameplay but I did finally go and finish the first iteration of player's poison:

Current poison rule is simple: It repeats the damage applied on the poison at the end of the turn three times. Poison can be reapplied and the greater of the damages is used so if you apply poison on a crit but reapply on a regular hit the poison damage will still be the crit's damage. If poison falls off the damage value is lost. Simple for now, the poison applier doesn't have great offense stats and only a mid-tier mediocre weapon can apply it so we'll see if it works out.

Iniquity and Vindication has had a game page for a long time. Years, in fact.

I'm unsure about what kind of screenshot I should post, since even though I've probably spent 200 hours on this game during the last month, none of it has been mapping new areas. Mostly scripting, improving bad things, and replacing placeholder graphics with real graphics.

One visible thing I did do was make enemies for a dungeon that was previously empty, the Haunted Courthouse. Seven different enemies in this dungeon with four unique graphics. Here's a screenshot of the Chained Convict and the Possessed Photocopier.

The possessed photocopier actually makes copies of your party members.

I need to figure out how to make better-looking and more interesting hallways. This one looks more or less okay but it's not a sustainable model to do 20 more times. Or maybe I need to figure out how to lay out some of my buildings in ways that don't involve hallways.
Game page submission got denied because i forgot to put in a plot... no surprise since there barely is any.

Yes now you know this is gonna be a misao-winning game
Hmm, something new....thats not just a slightly re-imagined porting...

Just a short side-dungeon early on in the game.

How goes it elsewise...uh, slow and sickly. Winter cometh early this year. Gonna try to finish tho. Don't waste the time you have allotted to you.
Yeah, I'm not gonna make it for this update ;_;
I needed to rewatch the entirety of the homo-genius series rethink what little plot there was in order to decide on what exactly the stages and enemies were going to be, which I ended up mulling over too much. Man I wish I could just do that classic video game thing where stuff's just fuck-all random nonsense, but I seem mentally incapable of it.
Craze
why would i heal when i could equip a morningstar

if i do something before this update ends, i should be good for four updates, since there will be three more, right...? will have to decide what i should reviver. dunno if i'll finish it since IGMC winded me but hey, maybe casual gam mak will do me some good

edit: i'm gonna reviver Versus Xerza 2: Ve(n)gence of the Fifth Goddess

https://rpgmaker.net/games/348/

maybe i'll do it in mv? mv bothers me though, at least for games that involve battles. i'm definitely not using default VX, ew. maybe retitle it to Versus Xerza Ace lol

edit2: i'm actually kinda excited to make a more traditional rpg for once, shit

= How goes the gammak?
Well... I have a billion things that keep getting in my way between work, family, friends, and Life is Feudal MMO being released next week >.< Gotta get prepared there, so work has been slow... but at least coming!

While people were doing things like finishing quality games with original assets I puked out some more shit! Mainly finding more issues with the script I was using for enemy AI and aggro. I was having too many random issues with it and got tired of playing whack-a-mole with it. Aggro is gone, the tanks now can apply a state that quintuples the normally equal chance that they get targeted. The enemy AI is gone too which I was mostly using so enemies would be a bit smarter with random targeting, especially healing moves. Maybe I'll whip up something quick for that, I haven't really dug into how action selection works in VX though and I'd like to stop polishing turds someday.

On the plus side the tank being able to reliably tank attacks an early game boss was using has made it much easier! Before it was too swingy due to a combo attack the boss uses that the old aggro script didn't handle.

I also added clouds! They pan across the screen and just look like weird shapes. I have no idea where to start to make it work with the mode 7 script so they just quickly fade when the player gets in the airship.

They're white smudges flying through the sky but it's good enough for this thing. They give a bit extra for a world map game.
I feel like I'm not being fair to those who haven't played FF14 by modeling these bosses with mechanics similar to the MMO's boss versions of them o_o;
