Description

RPG Maker VX Ace is OUT and we want to see what RMN can do with this new tool! The Nugget Crash Course is a competition for new Ace users to make a game to try and win a copy of RPG Maker VX Ace, courtesy of our friends at Degica (the company that markets and distributes RPG Maker outside of Japan)!

RPG Maker VX Ace is aptly named as it is RPG Maker VX {Insert Incremental Reference Here}. Imagine your regular VX with various changes and upgrades all over the place to make it a better tool all-round. The best way to see what the changes are is to download the Ace trial and give it a spin! You might even get your own copy out of it!

This is a fast and loose competition with a new tool and so will the theme. Simply make a game with RPG Maker VX Ace! It must be a new Ace game started with the English version so no carry overs from the Japanese release / trial. You can use any resources for Ace such as graphics, music, and scripts but I don't want to see any Ace-rized versions of your VX game.

Ace can handle any graphic, sound, or music VX can and more so all resources for VX are available. Ace also has a new feature of being able to create character and face graphics through putting premade templates together directly in the program. One critical difference between VX and Ace is the script backend got rewritten Ace which means a large majority of scripts for VX won't work for Ace. You can check the script repository on RMN for several scripts made to work with Ace.

Having trouble with Ace? There's a few places where you can try to get some help. Posting on the event itself is allowed but it's easy to lose track of such questions. You can post questions in RMN's Help & Request forum as long as you read the forum rules. You can also head onto RMN's IRC channel to try and get some real time assistance there too.

Judging will be handled by GreatRedSpirit, Archeia_Nessiah, Liberty, and Deckiller. After all the judges have played the games they will rank the games by their own preference. When a game is listed as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd the game gets 7, 5, or 3 points respectively. The game with the most points wins!

The dev lead for the game that scored the most points will be awarded a new Ace product key! We only have one key so teams will have to fight to the death against each other decide who gets the key. We'll also have achievements: The top prize achievement for the 1st place team, runner up achievements for the 2nd and 3rd teams, and participation achievements for everybody who participated.

Important Update! Our prize has been donated to us from our friends at Degica and RPG Maker Web:

I wanted to tell Kentona first, but the dude totally JUMPED OUT THE WINDOW WHEN I WAS TRYING TO TALK TO HIM. (Ok, not really, he just left the irc channel), but I'm just too happy not to want to announce it myself.

For people who don't know, I'm Nick Palmer, I work managing the official RPG Maker English site's(RPGMakerWeb.com) blog, Facebook, Twitter, Forum, and well, a billion other hats involved in RM Marketing.

Anyway, we at Degica (the company that markets and distributes RPG Maker outside of Japan) want to show appreciation to RMN for being such a great fan community for our products. As such, we will be supplying the Medal of Honor prize copy of RPG Maker VX Ace.
This is a great boon to RMN! Thank you Touchfuzzy, and thanks Degica! Your support of RMN is apprciated.

You get half a month starting when Ace is released until the end of April 1st giving two weeks and a weekend to create your game. There is some leeway in situations where game breaking bugs are found by the judges after the 1st and the devs will be allowed to fix these bugs.

At the top of the page, there's a link with the words "Manage". Click that. It should lead to to a page where you can choose the download you want to submit.
Silent Eyes is a go. I've played through both endings. It should work smoothly.

You need to have created a page for your game on RMN.
Aw, I really wanted that Snoopy. Oh well...
I WILL finish up my game though. I'll keep my team up there just in case I can finish in time.

I won't be able to finish my honorary entry, but I'll post a demo and upload the rest probably within a week, or within the time it takes to judge the whole thing. Don't expect too much crazy stuff ;)

Edit: Indra, you have 25 and a half hours.

If you have set the Time Zone adjustment setting in your profile, the time shown on this event page is the deadline relative to your timezone.

For example, I am UTC -6 hours, so for me it says:
Ends
04/01/2012 05:59 PM

can i put the judges on the tester?

ask them? beside dont ask them for score or they will, i think reduce it.
can you put me as tester?
I believe the games are to be made public to everyone so that they can play too. This way it's fair and if anyone has an issue with our choices they can confront us about them. If a game isn't available for the public to play, then if it wins there's no way for the other contestants or watching public to know that it won fair and square.

And for anyone who doesn't know, here it is, broken down into simple steps.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR GAME

:Game Profile:

First you'll need to create a Game Profile where your game will be hosted. At the very top of your screen is a black bar that runs across the page. On it are several headings - Your name, Mailbox, Notices, Submissions and a link to the front page (RMN).

Hover your mouse over Submissions to gain access to a drop down menu. At the very top is the Submit Game link. Clicking it will take you to the Game Profile creation screen.
To create a Game Profile you'll need several things.

1 - Four images of different areas in your game. Make sure they're not of the title or game over screens. Make them interesting and varied as they will be what draws people to your game.

2 - A decent paragraph about your game. Write a bit about the plot, characters or general outline of your game. Good grammar is a must! If it's not long enough or has terrible grammar/spelling the Profile will not be accepted.

3 - Patience. You'll need to wait until one of the Submissions Staff accepts the Profile. One way to hurry this along - in this case - is to put a line about it being for this contest somewhere in the description.

If you're not sure of the rules - and there are rules when dealing with submissions - check this link for more details: Submission Rules

:Download:

Once your Game Profile has been accepted, you may edit it. This includes allowing you to add a download to your game. To do this, go back to the bar at the very top of the page and hover over your name. A drop down list will appear.

Choose "Manage Games" and when the page loads, find the game you wish to add a download to and click on the 'edit' button on the right hand side of the page.

You'll find a list along the top of the page. You can edit things like adding your own pages to the Profile (Credits, Characters, etc), adding more images or adding downloads.
Go to the download page and use the browse command to choose your game's zip, rar or compressed game data file. Add some information and choose upload.

It will take some time for it to upload so go and do something while you wait. Once it has uploaded you will need to wait on a Submissions Staff member to accept it.
In this case, don't worry too much. We've got someone standing by who is going to be accepting the downloads after the competition ends, so if it doesn't turn up right away, don't fret. It will be there in time.

An easy way to see if your download has been accepted is to check your Notices when it's flashing. It will let you know once something you submitted has been accepted to the site.

:Submitting:

Once you've added your download, come back to this page. At the top-right you'll see a few links. One of these is 'Submit'. Click on it and you'll be taken to a page with a drop down menu that allows you to choose the current downloads of games you've uploaded.

If the game isn't mentioned on that list yet, wait until the download is accepted and then try again.

You have to submit the game publicly so everyone else can play it. This is a contest.
Just to clarify, we do have to the actual END of April 1st, right?
Because I'm having some technical issues, and I'm not sure if I'll finish tonight.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm set now.

Look out, children! The Singing Deerheads are in this. We're bringing a new, innovative chapter to the Quest of Dude series. Now with amazing voice work, more spells than ever, harder BOSS battles, and most importantly, a new artistic approach than this series has previously encountered.
Just submitted my entry, good luck to everyone! Looking forward to checking out the other entries when some free time opens up in a couple weeks.
