Description

Some of you might not know what a Release Something! Day (RS!D) is. Basically, it's a day where you release something - anything! - in order to get feedback from the community.

Release Something! Days used to be a regularly occurring events back when the community had a problem with releasing stuff. It was created as a way to encourage sharing, collaboration, feedback, and content in the community. The aim is to truly try to capture the spirit of releasing something.

It is not about prepping a major release, or making something in a fury to have something new to show for the event. It is about showing your works-in-progress, getting feedback, and checking out what other people are working on. Like a snapshot of RMN's development community.

WHATTA RELEASING?
Music, tiles, sprites, graphics of any type, gameplay (videos of gameplay tests are good), tech demos, demos - even completed games (but don't strive for a finished product; that's not the point of RS!D).

GOTTA HAVE RULES
- To 'Release Something' just upload it straight to this event page. Sign in/up, then hit 'Submit' in the top right corner of the page and browse until you find the file you want to 'Release'. Voila~
- You can release more than one thing, but try to make sure it's something you've been working on at least recently (say, in the last month or so). Keep it relevant!
- Release all through the weekend.
- DO NOT steal the things you see here, if someone wants feedback on a resource or script. I doubt we have to say it, but it's worth saying just in case someone uses the 'but you never said...' shit to justify being a fuckwit.
- To give feedback, use @username and then hide tags (depending on length and amount of feedbacks in post. So, for example:

@Liberty
[hide]this page is pretty awesome but hey, I think you need to work on your logo making abilities because holy shit giiiiirl[/hide]

GOTTA GET GOODIES
There will be a badge worth 10 MS for releasing something. One per person.
Best feedback givers will also get a badge worth 20 MS. Because the feedback is what counts most!

Just to re-iterate: You are releasing something :ANYTHING: that you have done on your project over the last month or two. It can be a screenshot, a face image, planned dialogue, a script snippit, a resource, a demo (if you have one on hand) or a video of a system or anything like that. It does not have to be something that you whip up over this weekend - in fact, it's HIGHLY ENCOURAGED that you NOT do that! Just dump something in! Or a few somethings!

I uploaded the latest demo for my game, which was previously called The Chronicles of Vallenfell, but is now called Legend of Amara.

On the subject of giving feedback, I think that dinkledaberry's maps are fantastic. They have just enough stuff in them to feel like an actual building without being overly cluttered, and it's always nice to see modern maps.

I go to sleep, come back and have 2 pages full of notifications from here. Gonna upload something myself now, but first, some feedback! (Gonna start with images)

@Oshun-That's adorable. The only thing though is the girl's torso and arms look a little too wide. Might just be me.
@Liberty-Heyyyyy that's not recent I remeber you sharing that sprite on slack ages ago D:< Just kidding. I do like the atmosphere you created there, but the character sprite clashes with the rest of the sprites. (Is that emi grown up?)
@Dyhalto-Love the background <3 The dialogue seems well written too ^^
@Infection-I'm really not a fan of that tileset, but I love the map in the first screenshot! The second one is good, except the style clash which kinda ruins it XD
@kory_toombs-That looks really good! The only thing that bothers me is that you used two different kinds of cave tilesets in the first screenshot. The black one is meant for rock caves and the brown is meant for mines/dirt holes and mixing them together kinda causes a palette clash :P
@Pizza-Love the chipset <3 That drawing is pretty nice too!
@Katana Hiroshi-That's a pretty awesome tile! That map is lookin fine too :) I would normally complain about the map being too large and empty but it's just a hallway after all and those aren't really very detailed in real life either :P That monster looks a little blurry though. If you are using gimp, try setting the option that says ''cubic'' to ''none''.
@Unity-Those are really adorable, but even though it's not really necessary I prefer pixel games having pixel battlers instead of smooth ones :P
@Dinkledaberry-That looks awesome. I would definelty play that. The only thing I don't like is how you used the face generator faces, even though old school modern doesn't have faces :P (I would personally use their sprites as faces)
@Zero3D-That's pretty awesome! Love the battle system you are going for :)
@AceOfAces-I have no idea what that says but I like it.
@BerryRMN-Haha that's so cute :) What I would recommend is making the room a little smaller and have the stairs be the same height as the wall
@Thunder176-That looks pretty awesome ^^ I like your mapping! Might give the game a try too soon :)
@Deltree
I love the animation!

@Punkitt
That cat is so cute!Also, I like the map, it looks quite simplistic.

@Pianotm
Your music is really good, it far surpasses mine!

@unity
Okay, those monsters are really creepy, in a good way!

@J-Man
I like the battles, they look interesting!

Noooo forgot to give feedback to the videos and music and if I go back and edit the hide tags are gonna mess up for sure ;o; And I did them wrong too. Fml.
Might aswell do it now since CYBERLOUS just saved me from double posting.
@J-Man
I like that vid :) The only thing I would recommend is adding a little more detial to your maps, like flowers and little bushes and trees ^^

@eplipswitch
That's looking adorable! Are those sprites custom, btw?

@Piano
I luv your music! That's some pretty awesome stuff.
@CYBER
You are nailing sci-fi. Way to go!

Edit:
Damn. Ofcourse the hide tags don't work >:( Had to remove them. Sorry.

Thanks, I think sci-fi is the only thing my artstyle fits, and I really love
sci-fi anyway!

Yeah, they are :). To be exact, they're based off RPG Maker 95 sprites, but custom-made.

@punkitt: While the graphics are simple and cute, I can't make head or tail what's supposed to be going on there. Is the setting of the game supposed to be surreal? Also, I highly doubt you'd find pine trees in a desert area ( if that's what the orange-ish tiles are supposed to represent ). You're better off making cacti sprites and replacing the pine trees with them.

(@punkitt, sorta)
I think it's supposed to be a splash of green on dead grass. Not sure, but that's the feeling I got. I like it so far, but it's so sparse there's not much else to say.

@BerryRMN
The sprites are adorable! I really like them. Is it a game about goblins or something? The map, however, could use a lot of work. Try a smaller area and putting stuff up against the wall.

@Ocean
Good to see you still do swirly palm trees. I love these! They remind me of Soul Nomad's rooms. (This is a very good thing.)

Wow, this got overwhelming pretty fast. :O I'll do my best though. Since this event is about giving feedback, I'll put my main focus on just that. If I sound harsh, I apologize. I did not add comments to those I had no feedback for.

@Thunder176:
- Your 5th map misses the top part of the rock, next to the top left switch.
- I don't know what's going on with your 4th map, but I suggest you to add some more ground detail and maybe a few water-lily leaves. A tint and perhaps a fog effect would further enhance the atmosphere.
- Your 3rd map suffers from height inconsistency. I recommend you to learn shift-mapping and change your walls so that they are at the same height.
- Carpets don't work like that (2nd map) and I think that the map feels awfully empty, especially the walls.

@BerryRMN:
That kitchen counter is insane! Man, is there a reason for it being so long? Your map could be reduced in overall size a little as well; make the room smaller.

@AceOfAces:
The right hand of the girl to the left looks really odd. Is the black stuff on her face supposed to be a shadow? It really looks like black paint to me. Why is the right girl upside down? Both of the girls seem to have...quite pointy bits. Are they supposed to have pointy bits?

@J-Man:
Your sprites don't go well with those tiles. I suppose the tilesets are placeholders though. Your maps are pretty bar too. Some more objects and details would spice things up quite a bit.

@Liberty:
I think that Milla's eyes look pretty weird, whether it's because of the different colors or the lack of a nose and mouth. Her neck looks a bit weird. It reminds me of a giraffe to be honest. I'm not sure what the darker line on her neck is supposed be. It also looks a bit odd to me.

@Dyhalto:
Isn't supposed to be "short-lived" instead of "short lived"? I'm 99.9 % sure that it should be "its" and not "it's" on INTRO_05, third paragraph.

@InfectionFiles:
The RTP background clashes with the sprites, trees and bushes. I suggest you to remake the background into a style that complements the sprites.

@kory_toombs:
- The wall tiles don't match the floor tiles in your first screenshot. It looks off. You can also add some rocks and cracks to the map, as well as a darker tint (it's usually darker inside caves, especially if there are no source of light in sight.
- The fence in your second screenshot isn't fully connected. Another tree or two wouldn't hurt.
- Some trees could be added near the edges of your third screenshot.

@Pizza:
The beach at the south looks a little empty. Things you could add: logs, more rocks, seashells, palm trees, dead grass/trees, water etc.

@dinkledaberry:
The walls inside the morgue look very weird. What are they supposed to be?

@zDS:
The trident ghost seems to be missing an eye or two...I think.

@Zero3D:
The dream machine doesn't mesh well with the other graphics. Your maps + title screen feel pretty...dopey. I suppose that's what you're aiming for though. "Shut Off" sounds very weird to me. Why not just go with the good ol' "Shut Down"?

Guess this is it for now. I want to congratulate everyone here on doing such a good job. Fight hard yeah! Ma all the gods of furious strong be with you as you crunch your opponents, and live like a windrammer as you fuck.

Finally got mine up :)
@Deltree:

I'm not exactly a fan of your games. The best that I've played was I Miss the Sunrise. But looking at that screenshot of the Tenth Line you have here, I think I might just be tempted to buy this game :p.

@Deltree
Hagahtahjdsjads!!! Deltree pleeeassseee. I can only subscribe once to your game. Stop showing off its awesomeness. Ridiculously impressive.

@BerryRMN
Goblins in the kitchen. What could go wrong? I like what you're going for. You might want to make the walls a tile higher though since you have some of your pillars and cupboards as two tiles high.

@KatanaHiroshi's feedback
Hopefully one day I'll be able to get a gamepage up for it as well. Getting a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff done. Hoping to get most of that out the way before school starts for me next week. After that...eh it'll be awhile but we'll see how it goes.

@AceOfAce's feedback
Thanks for the offer Ace! If I get a testable build sometime I'll keep that in mind. Yeah, the player will be able to get new suits to wear (armor) at the Outfittery. Every suit will be useful in its own way though.

@LorSquirrel's feedback
Thanks LorSquirrel! I was hoping they looked nice and cozy. Hoping to be able to make a full game out of the visual style. Have some interesting locales planned.

@Frogge's feedback
Thanks! The faces right now are a sort of placeholder. I was debating whether to use them or find someone that could make up some nice sprite faces for me. So we'll see what happens in that regard. Hopefully I can get a demo up sometime this year.

@luiishu535's feedback

Still working on a lot of the locales but this is what I'm going for with the morgue:

@Frogge, I still prefer the classic XOX. Some power ups can be used as super move.
@LorSquirrel, It's promising, but the text was getting out of bounds (grab a text wrap) and the music is all over the place. I visit a building then get out and the switches to a different track. Visit a possible point of interest, music stops and carries over to other maps.
@luiishou, The black things are supposed to be Maria's dress. I've informed my artist about it and she will fix it up when she can. And could you please explain the rest with better detail? I got confused.

@Frogge, I still prefer the classic XOX. Some power ups could have been used as super move.

Welp just thought a little twist on it would actually be fun :P I came up with it with a schoolmate when we were playing XOX and I decided ''hey this is getting repetitive. Let's find a way to enhance it!''. So we did. We basically had it so that the winner got to design the area, and we added more things as we advanced, and that's basically how I came up with it :P
@Frogge
Interesting take on tic-tac-toe. Though I imagine you'll get some pushback from people since it's such a classic. Be like adding powerups to chess. But forget them because classic tic-tac-toe's always sucked. Yeah I said it. Hope to see what you come up with.
Frogge

I think tic tac toe is fun, it just gets repetitive after you play it a few times. Once you know how to win there's literally no fun to it.
Feedback time! (I'll get the music stuff later)

@Ocean
The icons and the sprite look super professional. Nice stuff. I'd love to see an actual screenshot.

@Liberty
The environment's shading from the sprite looks a lot cleaner compared to the pixelated style of the sprite. With that said, I personally like that contrast. It makes the sprite pop out more. Regarding the eyes on the sprite: I think if your intention was to make the eye pop out more, like a cyborg eye or even injured eye, then it does its job well.

@Deltree
Jebus! That looks professional, Way outta my league.

@Luchino
Looking nice! I can see lots of effort into your work. Good variety of shading and whatnot.

@Dyhalto
Instantly catches my attention. Great presentation.

@InfectionFiles
Cool style! Something morbid appears to have happened on second image and I like that.

@SgtMettool
Gives me a similar vibe to Brave Hero Yuusha, but it seems evolved. Good work! Look forward to whatever you're making next.

@kory_toombs
I can't tell, but it seems like most of this is custom graphics with some RTP graphics mixed in there and here. I'm not sure if that's a case or not, but if you do go custom, try to go all custom. The main characters have the clean rtp style compared to mostly snes style environments. The tactics battle system seems interesting!

@Pizza
Giving me strong Mother vibes. I like it. The simple grass brings out the more complex trees and whatnot. Looking good.

@KatanaHiroshi
That map is a hella big and empty. You might want to figure out a way to drastically reduce that size. Or add stuff to make it less big and empty.

@Red_Nova
Looking good! I think the top row needs to be more aligned with the middle menus. That's about it!

@Lucy_Fox
That first map is dead gorgeous. I'm wowed. The second map is good as well, but it's quite hard to compare to the first one haha. I think it's because the second one is in a more modern area so it needs to be flatter. Either way, looking really nice.

@unity
Custom animations are nice! Those battles are freaking amazing. Looking forward to the game.

@dinkledaberry
This game looks super interesting. I don't know what vibe it gives me. Pokemon/Mother/Phoenix Wright? I don't know, but it looks super nice and interesting. Hope it comes out well!

@Kylaila
Buttheart wins this event. I vote you earn at least 100 makerscore for Buttheart.

@zDS
Shut up, me.

@Frogge
Not much to say other than it's intriguing!

@Zero3D
An action RPG? Neat! You might want to change that text window. It's hard on the eyes.

@CYBERLOUS
Cool looking title art! Not much feedback I can give. I'll listen to the music later and give feedback on that in a separate post.

@AceofAces
Not sure what I'm supposed to see in most these pictures but nice title art!

@BerryRMN
If you're going with those custom characters, you might want to think about going all the way custom. Also, that map is waaay to big, you need to drastically shrink the size. And maybe add more color to it.

@Punkitt
Trippy geometry shapes. Looks interesting. You might want to think about making the environment colors a lot more simple. It looks like a barren desert but it's a bit off because everything is too simple. Simple is good, especially if the focus is geometry shapes. Maybe the ground should be stylized a bit more, like maybe more grey rather than the usual colors.

@Tunder176
No complaints here! Looks like you're using default RTP on MV.

That's a lot of feedback right there 0.0 (I mean in general not sarcasticly)
Just uploaded a sprite from my current project. It's of a main character. It was recent made a few weeks ago.

Also, while I have seen most of the submissions for this event, I can't get a whole bunch of comments out, but I'll try to see if I can get some in soon!

@zDS, The photos there (until I upload a few more regarding the game) show the new design of Northbridge (Immortal Sins' launcher). You can try it out on Immortal Sins' demo (uploaded here).
