Description

Friday the 13th is coming up and it coincides with the date of the next Release Something! Day! Talk about a coincidence!

So, some of you might not know what a Release Something! Day (RS!D) is. Basically, it's a day where you release something - anything! - in order to get feedback from the community. Release Something! Day used to be a regularly occurring event in the days of yore, back when the community had a sticky issue of never releasing any games or demos (because perfectionists I guess?). RS!D was created as a way to encourage sharing, collaboration, feedback, and content in the community. The aim is to truly try to capture the spirit of releasing something. It is not about prepping a major release, or making something in a fury to have something new to show for the event. It is about showing your works-in-progress, getting feedback, and checking out what other people are working on. Like a snapshot of RMN's development community.

What kinds of things can be shown? Music, tiles, sprites, graphics of any type, gameplay (videos of gameplay tests are good), tech demos, demos - even completed games (but don't strive for a finished product; that's not the point of RS!D). Let the feedback work for you. Although, there are some limitations to RMN's event profile - only game downloads can be submitted to the "official" event submission. But that's okay! I will manually compile all of the other types of submissions and update the event page.

So, some of you might not know what a Release Something! Day (RS!D) is. Basically, it's a day where you release something - anything! - in order to get feedback from the community. There will even be a podcast covering the releases.

1. If you are posting a game demo or download, make a Gameprofile (if you haven't already), upload the file, and submit the download to this event (by clicking the Submit button in the upper left)
2. If you are posting other media (like screenshots or music or graphics or videos) submit it to the site like normal and then post a link to it in the comments

There will be a badge worth 10 MS for releasing something. Best feedback givers will also get a badge worth 20 MS. Because the feedback is what counts this time.

There might even be a podcast!

Since I knew I wasn't going to be submitting any game demos to this, thanks to my habitual procrastination, I decided to make a miniature expansion to the graphics pack that I made for MOG. It includes two new battlers and a new characterset... Yup!

@slash - sadly, that thing you are thinking of is not a thing that will be released this day. soz.

Here it is!

Just retooled the description on the game page so it's not horrible and amateurish. The secret is out of the bag!

Fair enough! My bad, I jumped the gun :P

Also dang, I thought we had to release on Friday but then I saw it's actually over three days! I s'pose that's why everyone is linking stuff already... Woo! Extra time!

Eyeball trees! They are stunning. Ok sorry, probably should say that on the gamepage, but seriously, eyeball trees!

I DIDN'T DO SHIT!

Between this, MOG, and the two times I've tried doing music for other people on this site, I guess I can conclude that I really won't get anything done unless its for a project that I'm working on.

Oh well, I suppose I'll try out the demos and such tomorrow and at least try and give some useful feedback.
Oh man, why is this so nerveracking?!

11:33 PM is close enough to Friday the 13th to go crazy, right?

Well, after a long day of mowing the backyard, dusting off my bike/inflating its tires and taking it on a road-trip around my old stomping grounds, I'm proud to say that I've actually taken a shower so that I don't smell like a garbage heap (actually saw one in my old neighborhood, as a matter of fact) and that I'm ready to drop a load on this topic.

So here we go: Progress Report release! Over the past week I've:

• Finished the "Vermolin + Caldinasus vs. Night Blade" war.
• Tidied up a few things around Darunmus + gave it an overhaul (anyone who took the time to play the 07 version I had up some time ago knows what this means).
• Put the last of the bells and whistles on Vermolin including the recruitment of a "new" party member. He's a pretty cool dude who's going to be around for a while, also he's mysterious, ~wooooo.
• Scratched out some more of the beta world map to help me settle on -roughly- where everything is going to be for the rest of Chapter 2.
• Further fleshed out my design document to wipe it clear of all that I have finished and fill in a pretty solid outline of how the rest of Chapter 2 will take place. I'm feeling pretty good about it.

So that's that. Also, a screenshot so that you know I'm not just blowing smoke.

Who dat?
Also, please ignore the stats. It's for testing purposes.

Cash, Pizza that looks fantastic.

My brand new gamepage. The Project itself is kind of archaic. I hope I'll be able to release some resources fer your own ugly game later today or demo, devo(Jeez, I was so busy these last few days).
I've added a new picture to my game:

Please feel free to give comments!(be nice :D)

Hm, the pespective on the bottom part is a bit off, since it's just a flat wall? Try to find some stony ceramic roof tiles for the bottom section and replicate what's going on with the uppers. Also, rather than stretching the tile on the bottom, just use the original tile and build it up into that shape. Or find a tile similar.

Moved feedback over to the feedback thread where it belongs...
Lookin’ lovely as usual, Luchino.

Well, here’s my entry, just a single, lousy screenshot (...shuttup).

A couple of things to note:

  • The mini-map thing in the upper left hand corner DOES finally work – thank god - and it took me almost three months for it to finally get it fully working. (Man, it was such a headache.) It was supposed to flash in order and keep in mind of multiple players occupying the same space. So, say, if 1P and 2P were on the same spot, that particular space would flash red, then go to brown, then back to red again. Of course, I had to make a separate turn order just in case two players occupied one space and another two occupied another in a 4 player match. Also, I had to make sure whenever a player rolls the dice and walks off a space that the transition of walking off that space in the mini-map order is as smooth as possible.

On a 4 player match, the game does "occasionally" lag if a player has to pass through multiple players in a row before the mini-map process has a chance to update itself (usually every two spaces), but it’s not that bad to be incredibly jarring. On 3 or less players, though, there’s no lag at all. (Kinda reminds me of the original Super Smash Bros. for the N64 and how it lagged sometimes whenever you had four players.)

  • That “Economy” thing in the opposite, upper corner represents how much the Jackpot (Free Parking) space is worth whenever / if you manage to land on it; how much Taxes if you have to pay if you happen to land on The Tax Man (Income Tax) space; and how much it will cost for you to Bail yourself out of jail if you get arrested. The amounts can rise and fall over the course of a game.

  • That ring menu system works very similar to The Secret Of Mana ring menu system implemented for its own series. It actually works pretty good! And, if you look rather carefully for anyone who’s played this game before – you can finally save your game now! Oh, and there’s now a header above for each icon that you highlight to let you know what each one does. I remember getting a couple of complaints before with the older version about what certain commands do, so this should help.

  • Thanks to Aten’s “wonderful” David Overdrive Patch, I can finally use up to 120 pictures on the screen at any time, which I took full advantage of that and allowed for a 4 player HUD system below which finally shows everyone on what each player has it terms of properties, items, money, and the works. Now there’s no more second guessing anymore, and it makes trading a lot easier.

  • And yes, there are I.O.U Notes now. I actually wanted to put them in the original build but they ended up getting scrapped – and I’m not sure why… Anyways, they’re back in now, and they’re exactly pretty much what you think: they’ll allow you to bypass owing anybody any money, including cheating The Tax Man.

Whew, that was a lot.

Sorry ‘bout all that. It’s just that I’ve been working on fixing this since around November, 2013 and I really haven’t said a whole lot about this game because of…um…certain past, unfortunate events…yeah…

As for putting up a gamepage, my plan is to put one up in the summertime when I’m a little bit more comfortable with it and pretty close to the end. By then, I should have a lot more interesting stuff to talk about and showcase.

Oh...this is only a sample of what I have fixed up thus far and implemented. You have no idea what other treasures await.

Everything Will Be Fine now has a demo! Its small, its rough but its up!

Also hopefully I'll have so new ship sprites to share for Myriad Cypher up by the end of the day.
I'm not much of a talker, or poster, but my submission can found here, since everyone is linking there demos, and games :)

If anyone wants to see it, play it, or whatever. I don't really care too much about getting feed back today. It's just a demo after all. I just wanted to try this event for the experience. :)
