Description

This is the second time we've ran the Swap in the Middle with You event. It's a pretty simple premise. You start a game and work on it for two weeks. At the end of that fortnight all the games are pooled and then distributed semi-randomly to each other. Then everyone finishes the games they are given over the two weeks.

Rules
  • Sign up below. Make sure that you're dedicated for the both parts of the event.

  • Games must be new and made only for this event.

  • You may use any RM engine. Sorry, while it is a neat idea in theory to use any engine, most people who sign up might not have experience in those engines, limiting the ability to finish the games. Please point out if you have the legal or non-legal versions of RPG Maker 2000 and 2003! It won't do anyone any good if I hand you a legal version to finish when you only have the non-legal version to work with, after all!

  • If you only have access to a particular RM engine, please note that in the comment section so that I know to account for that when distributing the first half of the games.

  • Also, make sure to include an RTP stand-alone version of the game (and include resources) when passing it over so that your partner is not looking for different files to make it work.

  • When it comes time to submit, for the first half of the game upload the WIP to the event locker (accessed by Submit in the top corner).

  • First halves of games must be in by the time shown under the Details section after you add your time offset in the settings of your account. The Date End reflects this and will be changed when the second halves are handed out.

  • The second halves will be submitable by game page ONLY. Make a game page for your game whenever you like, just remember to update the information when the second creator comes into play.

  • To keep time realistic, aim for each half to have a half-hour of play at the most. This will make an hour-long game, which is pretty decent for a month of work. You can go over this amount, but remember that the longer the game, the less chance there is to finish it.

  • At least 10 minutes of game play time per half!

  • In the spirit of the event, don't be a back-seat driver to the second creators. They can take the game where they like - that's half the fun of the event. In fact, let's just say that you keep your fingers out of the game pie after it gets handed over. Make it something of a surprise, eh?

  • All games must abide by site rules - pared down to 'no hate speech, no highly sexual content, etc'. If you have questions about what is and is not appropriate, PM Liberty and ask.

Achievements?
As always, there's badges to consider~
Started in the Middle with You, Too - 50MS - Received at the end of the event for those who started a game and had it completed.
Ended in the Middle with You, Too - 50MS - Received at the end of the event for those who finished a game.

Creators are allowed to change the content of the first half of the game this time around, in order to make it fit the end half ideas. It's expected so don't be upset if you find your game has changed between sending it off and getting it back! I highly recommend making your first half a fun game that you don't mind morphing into something else, so as to stave off any protective instincts you may have towards the story and ideas.

If it helps people to disassociate themselves a bit from being clingy with their games think of the first half of the event as you making part of a game for someone else - it's not your game, it's theirs. You're just making it for them to mess with. The second half is where you get to make what your get yours.

Remember, we're doing this for fun, guys, and a big part of that is seeing how someone else takes your ideas and makes them into something else. Ideally we'll see games come from this with interesting changes and twists, so don't get attached to the first halves!

My gamepage is up. Still need to fancy it up and use the extension days to finish up some loose ends before adding a download to it.

Reality check: You're calling Liberty wrong? When she's the one running the event?
Just because you're running something or in charge doesn't mean you cannot be wrong.

Well certainly in general, I mean if anyone needs a citation see the entire existence of Donald Trump. But I gotta say I'm pretty much with Marrend on this one. Unless I'm missing something clicking the "Submit" button, choosing the correct download from the dropdown, and then clicking "Submit Entry" is not exactly a hardship? And yes in theory a participant might miss the memo and that would be sad but in practice the people actively participating in this event are pretty much all checking back here on the regs, plus Notices exist, so if they're on the site at all, they'll get the memo.
*slaps game down on the table* DONE!

I really hope this thing doesn't have any game-breaking bugs in it, but it should work just fine.
Again, reminder to SUBMIT VIA THE SUBMIT BUTTON ON THIS PAGE.

..in case it was missed on the previous page.

Download for A Half-n-Half Affair is now up! (Also in event page now)

https://rpgmaker.net/games/10741/

This was a lot more fun than I expected.
So is the second one the completed part or do I have to do some sorta splicing?

Confuzzled.

Ah, I see, the second one's the completed. And it looks like a few of them did half of it but didn't figure out the second half, or get it in time, or changed the name so I'm not sure who had what.

The game pages and credits should link them up. This page has the first half and second half listed by person.
If you're looking for something playable, just download the 2nd halves.
You can find the various game pages on this playlist: https://rpgmaker.net/users/Liberty/playlists/80026/

Also, I don't know who you are, but whoever downloaded first while I was still writing the game blog. I Love You.
Urgh, I wanna play Lunasia...

The giant vegetable towns are calling to me.

Also, really liking the Half n' Half Affair. The intro is something (especially the "giving back the fire crystal" part). And the letter.
so is the deadline midnite UCT or midnite where u are (UTC - 6:00 in my case 3:10PM at the time of this post) bcuz it's gonna be close. oh I will put something in the submission box no matter what but if I've gotta do it in the next less-than-three hours it's not really gonna be something anyone would call a game

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

It's done.

Overall I'm very disappointed with the amount of time I was able to invest into this, but at least I made a thing.
Congratulations to everyone who made half a game! Even if you feel discouraged, remember you were able to make something, so you can be pleased with this much at the very least, and it's good you were able to do that.

Sadly, I still don't feel well enough to commit to a project like this so I couldn't participate.

UTC should really be that same time that actually is that time around the world (cuz magic) instead of defaulting to some timezone's time and calling it "universal." In other words, 12am UTC should mean 12am their time.

To answer your question, the edit time tells you what time it "actually" is. It says I'm posting at 10:30pm but it's actually 6:30pm my time.

UTC, as I understand it, is actually just Grenwich Mean Time (if you'll notice, resetting it on the computer results in showing timezones near London within an hour), which they called UTC trying to make people obey a timezone that was naturally much different from their own. Before timezones, people had big clocks near every train station, and they were often off of each other by minute degrees. Timezones developed from a genuine need (sorry UTC guys), whereas daylight savings is just garbage.
Go to your Settings and change the hourly offset so that the site matches your timezone. Then look at the deadline time on this page. That's what it is in your time.

The deadline is 12am GMT, though.
currently uploading the no-battles no-enemies no non-transfer events in dungeons monkey in a fucking tophat build. (@11%)
1 hour for uploads and that's it.
Got the game page up earlier, uploaded everything with less than 10 minutes to spare. Which is appropriate, since the name of the game is literally "Just in Time"

Hope it works well near the end! Testing wasn't really an option near the end- something must've happened to my account clock to make it look like I had like 5 more hours than I really did. Not anyone's fault other than mine for not giving myself more insurance!

Anyways, here it is! https://rpgmaker.net/games/10766/
I really wish there was a Manage Entry button.

Here, this version is actually playable from start to (a sort of) ending and gives you a button to turn off the gangster rap and cat noises once you begin the assault on the (almost completely empty) Lair of Cait. There is still no actual gameplay in the latter half and there is still some content by JustAShyDoge that I don't want to leave on the cutting room floor that I've yet to reintegrate. I'd still suggest waiting for the next version.

Liberty, every time I post a new download in this thread (should only be like two more max) please interpret that as me saying "please stream this instead of the version that's up there now". With the absence of a manage entry button, that's all I can do.

WARRNING: INTROSPECTION
On a side note, I don't think I can get involved in these events any more. My obsessive compulsive disorder and perfectionism cause manic episodes where I don't eat or sleep and can't leave the computer because I'm trying to get something perfect. The first half of When You Were Young just cost me a full night's sleep. This second go-round has had me put off indefinitely important real life stuff (like finding an apartment) and delay real life stuff that I should have taken care of sooner (taking my dog to the vet; he's fine, but I should not have waited). Last night (was it last night or the night before? I literally can't remember) I found out that my main PC was potentially bricked and I haven't dealt with that yet.

This is no failing of the event structure it's just something wrong with me. I'm pathologically over-ambitious, my concept of what I can accomplish within a given time frame is megalomaniacal and absurd, and I'm so stubborn that I say "well, if I drink enough caffeine to find blood in my poop (this not an exaggeration, this really happened, but I doubt it was the Monsters, preexisting stomach problems) I'm sure that I can finish this ENTIRE RPG in 6 Hours and it's just...yeah.

Long story too short, I take this shit too seriously. Including--and paradoxically, I would add especially--when the game in question is the exact opposite of serious. Even when I am goofing off and making something completely silly and ridiculous I still need to get everything PERFECTLY silly, the EXACT right comedic tone, before I can stop. Something is broke in my Mazlow's hierarchy of needs and this gam mak takes priority over like, food and sleep, far longer than it should. I just moved half way across the country. I need to stay away from deadlines that aren't connected to paying work until I have the basic foundation of my life sorted out.
