AHAHAHA You all fell for it again! WHEN WILL YOU EVER LEARN?

Everyone has THREE WEEKS (and some change) to make a short game using not one, NOT TWO, but THREE randomly given theme elements from THIS POST!

You will get one randomly selected image, one randomly selected word, ANNNND...

One randomly selected resource from the PA-LETTE'S MAKE EVENT!

SIGNUPS WILL CLOSE ON 5/17 4PM CST!

HOW IT WORKS:
Sign up for the event. One person only!

I'll send you one randomly selected image, word, and resource from the Pa-lette's Make! event to use as the theme of your game. There's no rules for what you use, use rips, custom, whatever you like! Build with your favorite engine! Starting time is NOW! As soon as you sign up, I'll work on getting you your themes. New games only, don't dig out your dusty stuff and try to polish it up!

BRINGING BACK TR2'S FEATURE - ONE TIME REROLL!
That's right folks, I'm giving people a one time chance to reroll their theme if they are truly unhappy with their image/word/resource result from the initial roll. Use it wisely!

There are two nifty makerscore rewards for this game, one that goes to those who make a game demo, and those who submit a finished game!
Submit your finished game to the event page before the cutoff date, no extensions! ... Hopefully!

A NOTE ABOUT THE IMAGES AND THE RESOURCE - The image theme will be handled very loosely to allow for creative freedom. I'll use this image (again) as an example;


Now say for example you got the above picture. The theme included could be as vague or deep as you like, it could be about a forest, a dad and his kid, a pair of hunters, rifles, a road sign, a busted car, ANYTHING related to the image! Just because you have something you feel would be impossible to work with, do not expect us to judge you for thinking outside the box on some extreme tangent just because it doesn't match the image theme to the pixel. It's about fun! Go nuts!

AND, when it comes to the Pa-Lette's Make! resource you get, I am holding the SAME guidelines as the image reference. Take what you want from it! Obviously you are allowed to use the resource if you so desire, but you're also allowed to simply take inspiration from it in some way much the same as the image guidelines! This is all in place so that the poor sap that can't art to save their life winds up with one of our stellar art submissions won't feel obligated to try to work the resource into their own work, and thus have the resulting art clash.

Keep in mind that I reserve the right to accept or deny any images/words used in the roulette post if I deem they aren't worthy of the Theme Roulette roster. ~Illy

I've got my demo ready and pending in submission.
I'm bout to head to bed then I've got a thing to do tomorrow which may stretch a few hours past the deadline, but if you're wanting to sign up, better do so before I get to the computer tomorrow evening, cuz I'll be doing the last theme rolls for those that have signed up before then and then that's it! Er, that time being here in probably... 14-16ish hours.

Strictly speaking, this event uses the Event Locker. Which means making a gamepage isn't necessary for the context of the event. Saying that, putting together a gamepage can still be useful from a perspective of accumulating hype, advertising, letting people know Your Thing exists, PR, or whatever you want to call it.

*Edit: For what it's worth on the gamepage front, I've got some screen shots, and a tentative description. I just don't have a cool rap name!

Which is a good thing for me. For the sake of my sanity, I'm aiming to be putting out a Demo (The first entire Dungeon of 3) instead of a full game.

That'll give me time to properly polish some of the base mechanics and make sure they work, so that I have something short but nice to show instead of an incredibly janky full game.

Welp, aside from balancing the final boss fight so that it might actually make players consider their actions, I think I pretty much just have the endgame sequence to write.

Though, once that's done, I'll probably want a from-scratch play again, and see if I can't catch any more bugs.
I have made a terrriiiiibllle miscalculation.

I thought "oh, pfft, no problem, I can make a dungeon crawler in 2 weeks, I basically made most of Cursed Crown in one week, and First Person Dungeons are waaaaay easier to carve out."

...I forgot that I had no school or work at the time I made Cursed Crown.

And then this week at work-from-home has been a fixing a LOT of nasty bugs, so by the time I'm done work I'm in no mood to game dev.

And next week PSO2 is coming out and all my friends are gonna be on that.

And, I already have a casual RPG project I'd rather chip away at slowly after the event instead of making more of this one.

...Fortunately! I have plans to turn what I have into something still presentable. Hopefully, I can pull that off. If not, I'm going to have to accept my hubris beat me this time. XD

I have 4 out of 6 scenes complete and I've just completed the most complex one yesterday. If I keep my momentum up,I should be able to finish this game in a week.

Yosh! This is my first Theme Roulette game I post!

Black Lemons is a RPG made with VX Ace. It shouldn't be too long or too hard to finish. You can even try to speedrun it and beat my time of 9'54. Expect the game to last 20 minutes if you take your time.
RTP are not required. The instructions are on the readme file. I've put my analysis for the 3 constraints I had there. And don't forget to install the Fonts before playing.

If there is one thing I want to note about my game, it's that most skills are tied to equipment. There are very few exceptions to this.
If there is anything I'd like to note about my game is that slimes should die. And also that bears kill slimes. It is natural enmity. It's just like 'death to slime' lol.
Hopefully going to have the rest of the guts for my combat system finished by tonight, or sometime tomorrow.

As part of my drastic scaledown, I'm using 4 premade characters with 4 skills each. The basic idea is that there are 4 "elements" in the game, each character can deal 2 types of damage, and create single-shot-weaknesses for 2 others.

It creates a pretty decent feeling of teamwork so far.
Everyone is doing great, meanwhile I'm still here wondering "rpg maker vx ace or mv?"... lol
I started on my first map last night but I spent all the prior time coding, so at least the menus look nicer.
