AHAHAHA You all fell for it again! WHEN WILL YOU EVER LEARN?

Everyone has THREE WEEKS (and some change) to make a short game using not one, NOT TWO, but THREE randomly given theme elements from THIS POST!

You will get one randomly selected image, one randomly selected word, ANNNND...

One randomly selected resource from the PA-LETTE'S MAKE EVENT!

SIGNUPS WILL CLOSE ON 5/17 4PM CST!

HOW IT WORKS:
Sign up for the event. One person only!

I'll send you one randomly selected image, word, and resource from the Pa-lette's Make! event to use as the theme of your game. There's no rules for what you use, use rips, custom, whatever you like! Build with your favorite engine! Starting time is NOW! As soon as you sign up, I'll work on getting you your themes. New games only, don't dig out your dusty stuff and try to polish it up!

BRINGING BACK TR2'S FEATURE - ONE TIME REROLL!
That's right folks, I'm giving people a one time chance to reroll their theme if they are truly unhappy with their image/word/resource result from the initial roll. Use it wisely!

There are two nifty makerscore rewards for this game, one that goes to those who make a game demo, and those who submit a finished game!
Submit your finished game to the event page before the cutoff date, no extensions! ... Hopefully!

A NOTE ABOUT THE IMAGES AND THE RESOURCE - The image theme will be handled very loosely to allow for creative freedom. I'll use this image (again) as an example;


Now say for example you got the above picture. The theme included could be as vague or deep as you like, it could be about a forest, a dad and his kid, a pair of hunters, rifles, a road sign, a busted car, ANYTHING related to the image! Just because you have something you feel would be impossible to work with, do not expect us to judge you for thinking outside the box on some extreme tangent just because it doesn't match the image theme to the pixel. It's about fun! Go nuts!

AND, when it comes to the Pa-Lette's Make! resource you get, I am holding the SAME guidelines as the image reference. Take what you want from it! Obviously you are allowed to use the resource if you so desire, but you're also allowed to simply take inspiration from it in some way much the same as the image guidelines! This is all in place so that the poor sap that can't art to save their life winds up with one of our stellar art submissions won't feel obligated to try to work the resource into their own work, and thus have the resulting art clash.

Keep in mind that I reserve the right to accept or deny any images/words used in the roulette post if I deem they aren't worthy of the Theme Roulette roster. ~Illy

Huzzah, a Demo version is done. It's rather imbalanced, a lot of characters don't have many skills, their mechanics aren't fleshed out, enemies are imba, but its beatable, has two minigames, and is way over the 10 minute mark. Not bad for an event where I was half dead for 2 weeks+~ish. I fully expect lots of screaming when someone streams it. Hehehehehe.
I finally have everything but the final boss and the ending (plus intro polishing) to make.

The rest is all testing. *Glares at the enemies who seem to alternate between doing WAY too much damage, or not even punching through my character's barriers*

Barring disaster, I SHOULD have a "feature complete" game done, but as far as I'm concerned, it's basically a demo. I want more enemy variety and so on before I submit a gamepage and everything.

In any case, I'm REAAAALLY happy with my 3D dungeons. :D The decor even changes a little in most of the dungeons to help you remember where you are!

Okay. I've submitted what little I managed to get done on mine. I just got hung up on an event on one of the maps for a cutscenes and havent felt like trying to iron it out before the time ran out. Ill probably get back to this at some point but i feel i need to take a small break and approach it with a fresh perspective or something.

EDIT: I took down the project file and reuploaded everything in the project file as zip. It's not anywhere near finished.
The time is up and I'm not done :(

I'm publishing a technical demo with some mechanics, but it's nowhere near complete. I guess my plan was too ambitious and my free time too limited.

But then, it was a difficult time for me. I had some family problems, so I didn't have as much time as I hoped.

Well, anyway... I've tried and I have a technical demo, albeit limited. Feci quod potui, faciant meliora potentes.
Well...I almost didn't make it, but I got something turned in! Hopefully it's not a total disappointment.
I reaaaaally hope my math is right and 9PM CST is 10PM EST (or at least 8PM EST).

I. Am. So. CLOSE.

Just have the final boss, the pseudo-new-game-plus upgrade stuff (which is just making sure that your "money" carries over), and the ending story bits, and I have something to submit.


The balance of the final tier of enemies is a little...Too tanky IMO, but otherwise, I'm VERY happy with my little project. I'll fine tune the enemies to my usual standards later. :P
i thought i had 2 days, but it ends in 3 hours. And nobody really wants to play this garbage anyway. Not even gonna bother releasing whatever crap i have right now unless there is some kind of extension. Sorry.

REAAAAALLLY cuttin' it close here. I'm crossing my fingers that there's no problem with the upload.
FYI my game has a couple of very minor and brief NSFW bits, but you have to look around and talk to everyone to find them. And I censored them fairly well I think.
And it's submitted...Done...Doooooone... *falls back into chair*

TECHNICALLY the game is feature complete, and would count at a "full game".

But in my eyes, this game needs a littttllle more work to really count as "done.

Left to do:
- Difficulty modes
- Continue improving difficulty balance, to make it actually likely to game over. Which leads to:
- New Game Plus purchasable upgrades that will make later runs a little easier (more starting chests, Barrier points on the first turn of combat, faster levelups, etc)
- REALLY put a lot more effort into the post-final-boss ending. Right now each of your party members gets a little 2-textbox ending thingy on a barely decorated map, and doesn't reflect who is alive or dead. This ending REALLY needs more love.

But other than that...It's pretty complete.

So...Now that I have a minute, Imma give a brief overview of the game:

"Fractures in the Mirror" is a dungeon crawler with some randomization.

There are 3 levels you need to complete before getting to the final boss, and each time you change zones, you have a 50/50 chance to get one of two levels (So, you could either get the Forest or the Mountain Peak for your first level).



Keys for locked doors and chests have some randomization for where they're placed, and loot received from weapon chests are randomly selected from a pool of weapons, with some minor stat variation. This should provide some replay value, as you're never quite sure what kind of weapons you'll find on a given run.

Combat is ATB based, with each character relying on other characters to create weaknesses on enemies that they can exploit. It winds up creating this feeling of both teamwork and "HAH, DENIED!", which I'm really happy about. :P



As for the story...I went full on HP Lovecraft, with some commentary on "current events" as background.

Basically, our four protagonists are pulled into the Dreamlands by various means, and there, they are set to be sacrificed to an Edritch horror. Armed only with their unique talents and whatever they can find, they need to escape their fate.

I did it! I managed to finish and upload in time! I did have to rush the ending, but alas, I had only one week to make this xD

Expect around 15-20 minutes of gameplay if not more. (The Final Boss is a bitch and I will update this game some more in the coming weeks.)

I wanted to use Mirak's background image more, but I couldn't finish up to the point I was planning on using it, so used it for an effect...that I didn't have time to get the positioning quite right. >.> I will add it in to the point I was originally tho when I finish up SS2 and mak a gamepage.
