Description

Welcome one and all to the first TimTam Game Slam! This event is basically about teaming up with other people to create games within a set time, based around a theme. It also comes with a prize - a packet of TimTams sent to your door!

What are TimTams? Why, only the best chocolate biscuit in the world! Well, okay, maybe not the absolute best, but they're freakin' amazing and I swear by them. They come in a variety of flavours and they taste so good you won't want to share them - which is great since they come in a pack of 11, making them impossible to divide evenly with your friends.

They're also Australian and I swear by them. Yeah boi~<3

RULES

- Teams of three people, no more, no less.
- Any engine as long as the games are playable without.
- This is a competition, as such all games will be judged!
- Each game needs to be over 10 minutes long at least.
- No dumb-ass joke games. The game needs to be of a reasonable quality to count.
- The game needs to stick to one of the themes and be recognisably based on that theme.
- Gamepage required.

EVENT STARTS: 23rd of February
EVENT ENDS: 31st of March

Theme: ART

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

+Any resources are fine, but keep in mind that people might stream or LP your games, so attempt to use non-copyrighted music where possible. The Emperor's March might be cool as balls, but it tends to get videos taken down no matter if it's a remix or midi version. There's a ton of free-to-use music out there if you look around, and even youtube has a bunch of channels dedicated to sharing such.

+ You can use resources from old projects, but the actual body of work needs to be new (this means maps and database stuff).

+ If you win and don't like biscuits or chocolate or the like, let me know and we can work out another Aussie snack as a prize instead.

+ Gamepage needs to be accepted to the site before you can even add your entry to the event page, so remember to get them in reasonably early!

+ Liberty is judging you. Hi~ o/

PRIZES

Contributors - A 20MS badge for taking part, providing the game/demo is over 10 minutes long and of reasonable quality.

Winners - A 75MS badge for each of the winning team and a packet of TimTams sent to your door (you can choose from a variety of flavours).

STREAMS
Libby does streaming. Here are the streams. Enjoi!

As I said, if you drop the platforming and maybe snazz up the battles (and be a bit more generous to the players because jesus christ one bit of bad luck and you're fucked in some of them!) and you've got a really great game on your hands.

Like, that thing was impressive for a jam gam.

Spoilaz:
One other thing I'd suggest is that y'all get a little more specific with the "get help" message at the end and give some phone numbers and the like. IME, if you're the kind of person who needs help, you're going to feel out of your depth without specific instructions.
This was my first time working with a group, and it was both easier and harder than I thought it would be (Social anxiety was a bitch.) But in the end, I'm just glad to see how everyone that tried our game liked how charming it was. I even think that if it weren't for the platforming sections, we would have a pretty good chance to win dem Tim Tams.

I'm still disappointed with myself for not helping enough with the game, only helping out with the initial planning and a bit of polishing (But I never got to the later chapters) I guess sometimes real life doesn't want you to gam mak.

BUT, we have a few updates in mind to polish a few rough edges, especially around the second half and maybe even remove the platforming sections, to the point that it'll be worth a replay. We want to give our best with our little game

Hmm, I wonder if what we did could be considered a form of platforming.
Glad you liked it btw, sooz. :D

Only in a really distant, technical sense.

Congratulations! I had actually predicted Unfinished Tales but Abyssal of the Opera was just as amazing and deserving!

When judging games, gameplay is an extremely important criterion, and can drag down an otherwise great score.

Moral of the story: never, ever do platforming in RPG Maker.

Holy shit the chocolate is ours! WOOO THE DISASTER PROJECT MANAGED TO GET SOMETHING! Im not sure, but this may be the first event we win, i think? GLEEE

We won the Lite Cook Off with the Grumpy Knight, I think that's the only time we've won a contest on RMN. We've been top 2/3 a couple of times also.

Thank you everyone for the congratulations, I shall let you know how Tim Tams compare to our native Penguins.

I did writeups and shit so if anyone wants to know my thoughts in detail, here's that.Except on Canvas for Eternity because it disappeared.

...Really?
I clicked that link before even reading the last line because I was super excited. These sort of things are what I love the most about these competitions as it helps me improve.

That... kinda sucks.

Yay! Grats to Team Penguin, and thanks to the judges (Liberty, Sooz, you are fantastic) and event organizer/s (Liberty? I think) and streamer (Liberty again, haha) for all of your hard work. It's an immense task but providing the platform to enable people to work together and achieve these games is really appreciated. In particular out of those apart from the team that won (who did a great job in their own right), I particularly loved Unfinished Stories and El Arte, which just happened to tickle my particular fancies of deep story and batsh** craziness respectively. You are awesome, and all the other teams are incredible too.
