So who's up for this

I was thinking about this sites closure and decided that the most important thing about RMN for me was how it consistently got me up off my ass to actually make and release games. Whether for Action 52 or Shinan's contest or the various seasonal gamemaking contests I pretty consistently had a blast in trying to put together and release something under a deadline while also seeing what the other cool_dudes taking part would come up with. I think even beyond forumchats and recieving crits etc this kind of activity was what attracted me most to the site and was actually what made me join in the first place! And I thought it would be a fitting farewell kinda to use the forums closure as yet another excuse to hunker down and be productive.

So yeah if anyone is interested the aim is to release a full game before the forum implodes. This gives you a month!! to get something out. so you have until april 2.

If anyone's interested in judging what gets released etc then we can make an actual contest out of this sucker. It's not an official contest or whatever. You can use any engine or materials etc so 'go ape' as they say.

Themes are optional but in case you need one I would suggest: RAD DOGS

The Site Isn't Closing Down
...however the the sentiment of completing games is a good one. Working against a deadline with other chaps in a "last gasp" game drive whilst sharing crits and encouragement is something worth doing, I believe.

So I am making an official event out of this sucker.

Rules
* Complete a game by April 2nd 16th
* Use a gameprofile download as your entry
* It doesn't have to be a new game - you can take one of your existing projects and finish it off

Minutiae
* We don't have judges or a contest or anything, but if you want to be a judge let me know and I can add you!
* Participants who submit a completed game will get a nifty Rad Dog achievement (makerscore!!)

Working on side-quests, polishing graphics, eliminating bugs.

-Completed the Bahamut scene
-created the Ruby Dragon enemy coding
-put the Deep Sea Research Centre on the map
-Talked to a scripter and fixed a game breaking error
-added a few more maps to DSRC

-finish the mechanical levels of DSRC
-animate Levi's limit breaks in the editor
-Finish off Omnislash for Kumo
-remap and recode the last two maps of the game (not satisfied)

Bluh. Illness and work has caused this to grind to a halt. I've got a few sprites, but that's it right now. And a plot.

Working on the final (and only) boss fight. I still need to draft down how he is supposed to do what and when he's going to do it. This part is pretty damn complicated.
3. Set your goals for this week
Brainstorm on a piece of paper.
Remember to submit it in the system too! (Unless it doesn't work... as it usually doesn't)
I probably won't make the deadline after all. I've decided to make all of the graphics custom instead of using RPG Maker XP RTP. :P
Maybe I'll just aim for a demo now.
Maybe entries don't show up until the event is closed? It's been a while since I ran an event.
I know in Super RMN Bros 2 the entries showed up immediately. But I guess the submission system was different for that event.

Not good! I didn't get much work done on this (I am too addicted to SMBX). I did get some stuff done, but not as much as I would've liked.

2. Goals for next week
Complete the game, leaving 5 days or so for testing and polishing up.

Right now, I'd say 50% chance of completing this on time.

- I finished all of the maps in RPG Maker XP atleast to some extent.
- I finished coding events for the combat system and it works in all of the maps.
- I made the title image in 3D and even an updated version based on feedback.
- I started working on the story events.

2. Goals for next week
- Make more fixes to the shot of the title image and make an animation with it.
- Start making custom graphics.

3. Your likelyhood of completing your submission in time
Probably 25% chance at this moment. It was going to be made on time. But since I decided I wanted a lot more custom content. It will take longer.

I've been drifting back to my main project, so I pretty much lost track of those goals. But I did do these:
- Finished designing the title screen
- Completed organizing placeholders for the database
- Added enemy graphics
- Named all weapons, ammo, and armors
- Set the stats and prices to all armors
- Finished about 15 maps

2. Goals for next week
Add tints to maps and make the gamepage. I just want to make a good first impression, so that's why it's taking me so long...

3. Your likelihood of completing your submission in time
Probably 40%. The game's more about quick dungeon crawling than watching cutscenes, but I think I'll have to sacrifice pretty maps (and parallaxing only when absolutely necessary) in order to make the deadline. Speaking of deadlines, nearly all of my college stuff is due soon too! D:
I think a miracle has to happen for me to finish the game für this event. I mean I made big progress (95% of the full version at least), but you know... at the end I don't wanna rush this and send in a buggy mess.
But it's a pity that I can't collect this achievement and its Makerscore... -_-

Welp. I didn't get as much done as I would have liked. I had a lot of trouble with a few character scenes, then decided I wanted to do something totally different for Verdene's cave, then added some tutorials, then got really pissed off at Verdene's character so I redid it three times. By then I just wanted to boot her out of the game. I managed to get her to work.
As for the whole 'do two dungeons'... well, half of one. So I'm going to have to put in a lot more work this week. >.<
(I blame Sims 3)

Pretty low at the moment, but I'll at least try to make a decent demo out of what I'll have by then and then work on completing it. I almost wish I'd decided to do DC instead. >.<;

Well, I did complete 2 additional maps, but there is still 3 maps pendings, only for the main quest. A lot of minor dialogue tweaks and bug fixes too.
BUT, progress has been slower that what I hoped for. :(

2. Goals for next week
Finish 3 maps (Scepter Dungeon, Whitecroft City, Whitecroft Castle.)
Finish the MAIN QUEST branch of the game. Optional sidequests and extra content will have to wait, probably for a later version after the Game Drive.
