Betting it's a Phil Harrison quote.

Googling the quote gave me this article which didn't give an actual source for the quote (but it will be Harrison in my mind).

e: The article itself is just "WiiU doing poorly" and some speculation across the board for E3.

The Wii U is "struggling mightily," according to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz.

In a note to investors today concerning next week's Electronic Entertainment Expo, the industry analyst said the system has come up short during its first seven months on the market, but noted a "badly needed" price cut and key titles could help turn things around.

"After seven months on the market, Nintendo's Wii U is struggling mightily," Creutz said. "We note that the company has essentially abandoned the field to Microsoft and Sony at this year's E3 as Nintendo will not be holding a press conference."

"However, we do think there is a decent chance that Nintendo could announce a price cut for the Wii U at E3 in an effort to bring attention to the console and boost sales," he added. "We note that the console will have a series of key new games coming out through the late summer and fall, beginning with Pikmin 3 in August. Nintendo's window for igniting interest in its console is closing with Microsoft and Sony's competing machines soon to come to market."

The Wii U has officially sold 3.45 million units across the globe to date.

Creutz also said he believes Microsoft and Sony will not share pricing information for the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 next week at E3, instead leaving those details for later events. He also said gamers should also not expect news concerning used-game policies for both next-gen platforms.

Microsoft and Sony have confirmed that secondhand titles will play on their future platforms, but have yet to give specific information about how this will work. Creutz described Microsoft and Sony's intentions towards the used-game market as issues that are "critical."

He said if Microsoft and Sony do decide to implement a significant tax on used games, they run the risk of damaging GameStop's business model (in turn hurting the broader gaming ecosystem) and seeing "significant gamer backlash" that could hurt sales of new consoles.

"We also believe Microsoft likely knows this…and thus is unlikely to fumble the ball at the 1-yard line on this issue by getting greedy," he said. "However, we suspect they will avoid the issue as much as possible at E3, despite calls from the gaming community for clarity."

In addition, Creutz shared his thoughts on how Microsoft and Sony should market the Xbox One and PS4 during their E3 briefings next week.

On Microsoft:

"Microsoft needs to make its case for the Xbox One to the core gaming community after its initial launch clearly focused on the broader audience for media and entertainment," he said. "While we think pursuing the mass market strategy is correct (Microsoft reputedly hopes to sell 400 million Xbox Ones during its lifetime, more than 2.5x the sales total of the PS2 and 4x that of the Wii), the console still needs to appeal to its core gamer constituency to get off to a good start and generate positive buzz. We suspect Microsoft will not disappoint in this respect."

On Sony:

"In contrast, Sony has focused its early message squarely on the gaming community. Sony's challenge at E3 is simply to reestablish relevance given the decisive lead Microsoft has built on current-gen (at least outside of Japan)," he said. "We also expect Sony to showcase some of the non-gaming aspects of the console; however, the PS4 needs to not come off as 'me-too' relative to the Xbox One."

E3 2013 kicks off Monday, June 10, with briefings from Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, and Sony. GameSpot will have full coverage of all happenings at the show.
yesterday I connect this to the television, 101 games in one! people would complain about the graphics, but it owns the new console generation, it's pretty awesome and nostalgic everyone should buy one if they see it, it has my favorite tetris.
Xbone update! Including clarification of always on and used games!

Spread across multiple blog posts, Microsoft has finally clarified some of its policies regarding online connection requirements and trading in used games. Describing the system as being "designed from the ground up to be ready and connected," the company confirms that users will need to check in to "verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend":

"With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies," reads the official explanation.

Another post describes licensing: "After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud. So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend’s house, you can play your games." Up to ten family members "can log in and play from your shared games library."

On the used games front, Microsoft says it's up to publishers. (Great...) "Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

Continuing with the "Ugh, really?" news, to the surprise of no one: "In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends. Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

This is, sadly, right in line with what many of us were expecting from Microsoft. Now I have to wonder how Xbox Live Gold subscriptions will play into all of this. Not liking where this is headed.

Lastly, for Kinect, "The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used," according to Microsoft. "When Xbox One is on and you’re simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded."

"If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say 'Xbox Off.' When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command -- 'Xbox On,' and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you’ll need to turn it back on for these experiences."
(Emphasis mine)

Here's hoping Sony has better news... whenever they actually say something!
oh, what's that? all the paranoid bullshit about the kinect was made up? well, how about that!

I probably won't buy either of them, at least not for a good while.
I haven't been into consoles as of late, unless I just really have to play a particular game. (and since I lost touch with the RE franchise I don't see much hope for me to get a new system for one of those games)
Although, if a new Left 4 Dead comes out, I might be forced to get the console it belongs to.
I've been so out of the gaming loop that I didn't even know we were approaching a new generation. I was all, "Wtf, already??"... until I realized that the PS3 et al came out like a million years ago.

I'll be buying neither because I'm cheap as hell, and I only have time for portable games now, and even then, just barely. But I could see myself buying a PS4 at some point in the next decade, if I become that pressed for a new system.

Oh my word, this means I skipped the PS3 entirely. =(

What does either system really offer in advancement?
I think the current console generation of
PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii is perfectly fine.
Graphics can't really get that much better,
So what are the systems offering that the current
one couldn't be capable of.

My solution buy and make your own game with
RPG Maker VX Ace.... I spend too much time
with that already to even consider the next
console war. Apple should just release the iBox
and be done with the whole war.
No reason to be an early adopter this time around, just wait and see.
Not a PS person, and XBox One is shady, to say the least.

Going to buy both and I'm throwing 3000 dollars at a new computer, custom built and assembled by me. And that includes a new super High Def Monitor.
PS4, since I'm sure there will be more Uncharted and such. I absolutely LOVE the Uncharted series, and Sony has other very enjoyable exclusive franchises that are worth playing.

Still, I know that I won't pick up a PS4 on launch. Maybe next year sometime instead.
The PS4 will most likely dominate.
I believe that because this console wars is just a recycle of previous ones.
SEGA: The Innovator - Always running ahead and doing fairly well at it. - JP
Nintendo: The Prime Runner - Always in the lead, taking things slowly and carefully. Building for a family audience. - JP
Atari - The Stepping Stone - Building the foundation for gaming, but spending too much time there. - US
Sony - Nintendo
Microsoft - Atari
Nintendo - SEGA
Confusing, isn't it?
i won't be getting new consoles anytime soon. I'll probably end up getting which ever console my brother gets so we can play online.. At the moment 3DS is the only consoäe i'm tempted to buy because of it's ridiculous growing game library and also because i've take a notice how effortless handheld gaming is.

only next gen game i'm interested at the moment is final fantasy xv, looks like a promising return of final fantasy.
