THE EXQUISITE CORPSE CHALLENGE

I chose the creative corner for this thread because this challenge is meant to expand everyone’s creativity. The exquisite corpse is a technique of art and writing that has even made its way into film. I have yet to play a game based around this technique. Below are various different ways the technique can be applied.
Drawing Technique
This version works by taking a piece of paper and folding it so that everyone can draw different parts. When my family plays the drawing game, we split up the head, torso and arms, legs and feet. Each person draws their assigned part and then we unfold our monstrosity. Needless to say we have come up with some weird looking creations.
Writing Technique
Each person writes a different scene without showing what their writing to everyone else. We usually use a first person perspective without giving the character involved a name. After everyone is done writing, the scenes are then spliced together, in order to make a story.
RPG Technique
Take the above techniques and apply them to music, sprites, monsters, backgrounds, puzzles, mini-games, etc. Also people might want to write out scenes, letters or what not to add to a sort of story. All of these resources are thrown together to make a game.
The Challenge
Make a game using the resources provided by others who used the exquisite corpse technique to the make said resources. I’m curious as to what all the creative people on this site can come up with. Now start posting your resources, I want to see what game makers can bring together out of this weirdness. I will be on this thread periodically to keep it from dying. I’m also hoping that this thread stays up for about two weeks before I start requesting game designers.
Don't want to be rude, it sounds like a cool idea, but I don't see anything to give motivation to the game developers, I mean, the challenge is: drop whatever you wish and see what happen, maybe someone will be willing to do a game out of it, maybe not. It should probably be better if you give a real goal, and it would be really nice if you could give the example and provide resources rather than just keep an eye.

I think the challenge is to create a scene for the game, not the whole game, and submit it. Whoever's running the challenge would have to have a list of scenes still needed (i. e. Opening, End, Title, whatever else), and whatever we dump in comes out as a single game.

I always thought of Exquisite Corpse as being abstract to the extent of being very nearly non-objective, but what the hell. It sounds cool to me. I'll give it a try.

I've always considered the finished product as its own reward. If an award would encourage people to participate, maybe, those that are in charge will turn it into a contest or something. As for examples, here's some links.

Keep in mind that a finished game is a hell of a lot more complex than a drawing or even a story. It's also going to take a lot more time. And it seems like there would need to be someone in charge.

If you want an example of a community game done in a really cool way, check out Craze's Wyrm Warriors. If you want to keep this one going, I'd at the very least establish what RPG Maker (or other program) the game will be on. Then all the resources can be made to best fit that engine.
RPG Maker VX tends to be the maker that I've played most of my games on. Granted these have mostly been horror games because I'm a horror buff. As for someone being in charge, I could take up that mantle. I'm kind of doing that already. Also if the game/s are on RPG Maker VX I can play test them and put them under a critical eye. I do the same for stories and books that people write.

I'm going to vote RPG Maker 2003/2000 for the reason that, number (1), I'm not going to spend 70 bucks on a new engine when I'm already familiar with one and that money can be better spent on my insurance, (2) many potential participants are going to feel the same way, (3), RM2k(3) is cheaper, or easier to get off of warez for free, (4) I don't have Steam, don't trust it (having actually had to clean it out of my computer already due to malignant coding), and therefore am not getting VX on sale any time soon, and (5) just as with reason one, there will be people who agree with four.

As a compromise, I'd be willing to pay the 20 for RMXP.

Sounds good to me and don't worry about spending 20 bucks on XP.

Why do people keep posting stuff like this? I know RMN, as a site, has an "honor among thieves" thing going on with English translations of 2K/2K3. However, stating that you can get those engines for "free" as a reason for why people should use those engines is pretty terrible (in my book).

I understand his point of view. Especially if he is more familiar with 2K/2K3. He did say he would be willing to compromise by buying XP. I was the one that told him not to worry about it.

Besides 70 dollars is a lot of money to be forking out. 20 not so much, but I don't want people to fork out cash if they don't want to.

Lmao! I actually agree with you Marrend, but I am a truthful person, and "horrible" though it may be, it is a truth that we face on the internet. Truth of the matter is, warez sites are where most people are going to go for older software and abandonware. Come to think of it, where can you actually buy RM2k(3) these days?
I and pianotm are currently the only ones doing the exquisite corpse challenge. We need one more person to participate in the challenge/project to make it work. Are there any takers?
