SOUND EFFECTS

woosh, hello~

her's a law- / rules question, specifically about the maker's sound effects :

are those free to use even in commercial projects ( if you legally bought the rpgmaker ) or is it crucial to replace them with homemade or royalty-free sounds?

Everything included in the RPG Maker that a developer purchases is an asset that is able to be used in commercial projects. The license states so.

What cannot be done, however, is using those assets in a commercial project that is not an RPG Maker game.
Great thank you! : D And thank you enterbrain.
Ah, to go a little more in-depth - since a lot of people don't realise this and it's a little tricky - if you're creating a free product it's not likely to affect you too much. Usually they won't police something if it's not brought to their attention, but if you are using them commercially this is a lot more valid.

That being:-
- Any resources that are from one of the engines must only be used in corresponding engines that you own. That is, if you own XP and Ace legit, then it's fine to use the XP and Ace resources in either engine. That's completely legit and you won't ever get in trouble for it.
However, if you don't own XP and you wanted to use the RTP files in a game in Ace, legally (strict word of law) you wouldn't be allowed to.

It's an odd bit of law that's about intention, since legally you are allowed to download the RTP for free... as a supplementary source of resources. That is, if you need to play a game that uses the resources you may download and install the RTP files even if you don't own the engine. BUT! The moment you add the resources to your own game for your own use the fact of intention makes it illegal (to the strict letter of the law).

Again, Enterbrain isn't exactly going to hunt you down and take you to court if you do use them in your free game (like most games on this site) but when money comes into play you do open yourself up to that possibility, even if it's quite small.

Anyway, hope that helps a little. You should be fine using them as long as your game isn't commercial and/or gain Pom-level awareness. ^.^ If you need clarification about anything, just ask.
