My biggest concern is that there are maybe 6 of us left who know them as chapsets...

THE GOAL OF THIS THREAD:

Get all of the great "classic rm2k3 chipsets" (i.e. various rips, Theodore, etcetera) UPSIZED AND REJIGGERED for VX Ace and collected and archived and hosted in one place for everyone to use in their games. Because honestly I feel like I STILL FIND MYSELF WANTING TO GO BACK TO THE OLD ARCHAIC BROKEDOWN-ASS 2K3 ENGINE TO BE ABLE TO USE CERTAIN GRAPHICS I LIKE, and that ain't right. That engine's a relic and I won't let some graphics pull me back to it.

The Plan: Man I have no fucking idea. But I want to share the booty with everyone and I will still probably even consider paying people to help with the project, even though it's not for me/at least not for any specific game.

Looks to me like this contains some new tiles, while it is missing some I remember from the RTP! So I think this is technically an RTP edit.

Here are the Theo tiles I was using. However, I only resized the ones to practice making the bar with, and I'm not sure if there's enough room in Ace's A-E sheets to fit all the tiles that were in one 2k3-formatted chipset.

Somewhat inspired by UPRC's Blackmoon Prophecy II, I've started my own project to import as many FF6 graphics as possible in to VXace. As usual, since I doubt I'll make any kind of real or concrete progress on it, I'm posting it all as I go.

I tried doing some pallette swaps on FF6 Tilesets, and they ended up looking pretty sweet. Since I doubt I'll ever do anything substantive with them, I figured I put them here. The idea is to make it so that the different sets will flow together more, and boy do they ever. This way you are able to make a town that combines the Doma tileset with South Figaro, or Vector, or so on.

Ever wondered why Vector was surrounded by a bottomless pit? Now you can put high castle walls around it! Looks cool with the Vector building, and the girders everywhere.









And this final one goes along with any number of rural towns in the game, and ended up giving the castle a very pretty bluish color. I never got around to doing the base layer here, so it stands as somewhat incomplete, but still usuable.




Anyways, you see what I'm getting at here, simple boring palette swaps and the endless quest to jam everything imaginable on to a tileset. It's pretty mind-breakingly tedious to map with these tiles, so it's probably best left to the professionals, but it can be done.

A note on these last...I don't actually remember EVER SEEING MOST OF THESE EVEN FOR RM2K3. So technically they stretch the scope of this project but I included them because they are awesome. Big ups to nemojbatkastle for all the work involved in these, especially all the awesome recolors.

So, is there a way to convert RM2k3 Chipsets to VX (Ace) tilesets? I mean, obviously there is a way if you're willing to manually copy/paste, resize, re-align, re-grid, and redistribute everything by hand using image manipulation software i.e. GIMP, Paint.Net, etcetera to get every pixel right.

But, and not to sound like a lazy jerk (although I totally AM), that amount of effort is really prohibitive for some people, such as myself.

So what I'm really asking is, is there a way to do this that's partially or completely automated or at least reasonably easy? Like if I one day want to use theodore chipsets or something in VX (Ace), how difficult will that be? I know that I've seen this mentioned periodically here and there over the years, and I think I've seen a few people mention it being possible or even trivially easy, but I don't recall any specifics.

I am asking this publicly instead of privately because I feel like the answer or lack of answers may potentially be useful to a lot of people. It's called Part I because I am sure that there will be other things people can rectify my ignorance about in the future. Thanks.

If you want them to look the same way they do when actually in the editor, then here's what someone named JoRu did back in 2009 for VX:

But, that's just the RTP. If you're looking to use other tiles, you'll have to ask someone to help you out if you're not willing to do them yourself.

Oh, and that also includes the RTP character sets.

The good news is back in the day there were tons of sets of great graphical resources for use with 2k3.

The bad news is that (IMHO) the 2k3 RTP was not one of them.

I think I'd actually be fine with either, but I'd probably have to see the difference to be sure.
For the regular smaller size you'd need characters around the same size as VX RTP except much more thing IE not chibi.

I do agree with you about the RTP, but it does look much better not blown up.
Too bad I've never heard of anything that would make the conversion process any easier, but it's not hard, just time consuming.
If conversion tools don't work:

Get iDraw(win version is my locker), open old chipsets that are likely 256 colors(this loads the palette of your image), copy the entire thing, create new image of the size of an ACE tileset, paste everything in, set the BLOCK INTERVAL to 8 or 16 so you can select in chunks the size of a single tile, click USE BLOCK INTERVAL, then using the select tool rearrange them to the layout of an Ace tileset, magnify the whole thing by 200%, and save.

It might sound like a lot, but once you do a few you realize how easy it is. iDraw will only work with 256 color images. You can often reduce an image to 256 without losing any quality, but that's another issue. Converting 2k3 tiles specifically, is fairly easy. I could make a video of me doing one to show you.

I found a bunch of VXAcified Theodore tiles in this thread, I'M SO FUCKING HAPPY, nyahnyahnyahnyahnyahnyah. Now I need more. MORE. MORE!!! And FFVI/FFIV/ChronoTrigger Rips. For ACE. Yes. Yes. YESSSSSSSMUAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I'm currently working on my 2k3 project in VX/Ace, but I don't know if I have the willpower to continue it since the conversion, but if there are enough people whom want 2k3 REFMAP resources in a VX/Ace format, then I'll continue making and converting them.

It's a very long and rigorous process to convert chipsets to VX/Ace format, especially the water. It's probably the worst. But here's an example of one of the REFMAP resources I converted to a VX/Ace format from my game demo. It's missing the water autotiles at the moment since I'll probably do that last.

Those look good...wish that there was the water on the autotile but I'll just bet it's a pain in the ass like you say. Someone who's a graphics guru might want to give you critique, but they look great to me.

Man, as a single person I don't think I can possibly give you enough desire. But I want you to know that personally speaking YOU HAVE ALL OF THE DESIRE I HAVE INSIDE OF ME. (Um..."no homo".) I DESIRE THOSE CHIPSETS GREATLY.

Oh, hey! I actually think that I already have a bunch of converted REFMAP charsets, actually (no chipsets) IIRC. Let me know if you want them and I'll post them here.
I strongly believe you should include the RTP as the single most important converted resource in the body of the topic. And also organize the rest a bit better with hide tags and such. Doing so will probably make people a little more prone to help!
I might feel like converting some stuff soon enough. This is a good thread!

Ehh...maybe. Time permitting. Eventually. I agree it could use some polish but, I've gotta spend most of my gam mak time on actual gam mak, not fall into the trap of spending a ton of it on foruming (I have a problem with that!).

(Oh, actually, when I put an image inside of a hide tag I can never unhide it. When I click it, nothing happens. I have no idea why that is, but it seems to be a problem that exists just for me because I have seen kentona taunt me by doing it correctly before, lol.)

Managed to finish almost all of the autotiles for the 1 chipset I posted. I have the water and waterfalls done, it took me about 3 hours (I only have the shadowy water part to finish) but here's just an update.

Anyhow. OP fully updated. I think we're doing really good on Resized 2k3 RTP resources. How about some resized JRPG rips and some more resized Theodore? Someone's got to have those around.

I am not sure I am looking for more resized REFMAP because I am actually almost positive that Mac&Blue actually did a really nice REFMAP v2.0 for RPG Maker VX.

Wow, this looks like it will be a good collection of resources.
I'll eventually copy them onto my computer, but have no idea what I'll use them for.

Edit: And no one should be using that broken down excuse for an engine. These resources should have been made available for Ace by Enterbrain a long time ago. I mean $$$.
