CULTURAL DOCUMENTARIES

I watch a lot of documentaries about world cultures and space.
What is one of your favorite cultural documentaries?
Here's one of my favorites, if you'd like to see.
My one issue with this video is that the host spends a lot of time looking for links between different areas but personally I prefer to just enjoy learning about the cultures on an individual level rather than trying to connect dots between cultures but despite that I still enjoy this video a lot.

My best advice to you, from a personal level, if you want to go learn about other cultures, go there and stay for 3 months.
You will have to learn the local ways, language and after the first 45 days, the tourist factor bleeds away and you will learn faster then any documentary. That's what I've been doing (In Taiwan, Taichung)
EDIT: A documentary will always put you in the shoes of the outsider looking in. Living there makes you a local looking out.

This is impractical advice. Most people do not have jobs/lives that they can just put on pause for three months without repercussions.

True enough; However, it is the only way to truly understand. A culture is not something that a few videos can give you, experiencing it directly is the best way. It's also a luxury most people are either afraid of taking, or have too many responsibilities and thus cannot take.
No one said a video can teach you everything. Traveling is definitely great way to learn but most people aren't rich. The vast majority of people are not afraid to travel they simply can't afford it. The most affordable way to learn is to open a book. Check out your local Library.
Edit: Well technically not every library has a good selection of books but you get my point. Personally the book selection at my old university is better than my local libraries but I've still managed to find some good books there as well.

Neato series. Romer here hikes up a lot of things and gets out of breath while telling us about the lives of people who built the royal tombs of Ancient Egypt. Lots of great details and I love seeing things that don't focus on the upper classes of a society.
Probably only barely counts, but pro-wrestler Kenny Omega's experience of life in Japan makes for pretty fun viewing/listening.

It's also pretty tough to get your hands on a time machine these days.
This thread reminds me that it's been a while since I've seen a documentary. Well, at least not a lulzy ALIENS BUILT THE PYRAMIDS AND RULE THE WORLD FROM THE SHADOWS kind of documentary. (Seriously, how to half of these things even qualify as "non-fiction"?)
