XENOBLADE CHRONICLES X

It comes out in two days. This is the most hyped I've been for a game in many years. The original Xenoblade was one of those games that blew my mind in every way and positively impacted every creative thing I did since. It's safe to say it's one of my all time favorite RPGS of all time. In my opinion, it's the huge modern RPG that captured the essence of the classic snes RPGS (that I hope we all love) the best.

I'm going in Xenoblade Chronicles X mostly blind. I watched a couple trailers at first and felt I did not need to see more than that. I heard it's a LOT bigger than Xenoblade, which is already mind boggling to me. I cannot be more hyped.

Anyone else gonna get this or plan to?
I've already downloaded it.

sounds japanese
I've been kind of up and down about this game leading up to its release. the aesthetic and the setting seemed stylish, but the Japanese release had some tacked-on anime fetish stuff that felt weird and incongruous. it seemed like they were putting forth an effort to fix that for the english localization, but on the other hand it apparently still does the thing where armour suddenly gains a boob window when a female character puts it on.

a lot of what I'm hearing post-release is that same flavour of 'ugh, of course they would', honestly. the story is apparently fairly dull and unskippable, and the gameplay sounds a lot like the same single-player MMO style that didn't really grab me back in the first Xenoblade. I still might check it out one day or another, but my excitement for it cooled pretty much the instant that people started playing it and reporting back.

i like the idea of it but like xenoblade i'll probably appreciate the music and never get around to actually buying it

also the whole NEW 3DS thing/nintendo in general is not a good thing in my book, so eh. i'll just keep listening to Uncontrollable and Black Tar.
one very important factor is whether I can give a character Mumkhar's voice
I asked for it for xmas since I was low on ideas and people kept asking, so I guess we'll see.

I never played the first Xenoblade, or Xeno anything.

E: I will probably be blown away because I have no preconceived notions and limited experience with MMOs and haven't been inundated with beautiful modern games.

I was kind of turned off by the 13-year-old wearing a skimpy bikini, personally.

apparently the very first craftable armour is a bunny suit, too? it all feels really weird and arbitrary. like they had an internal quota of Sexe Boob to add to the game, or weren't confident that it'd be successful without the grody otaku demographic.

(I mean, granted, it's a unisex bunny suit, but their intentions are still pretty obvious.)

You must be thinking of Xenoblade on the 3DS, that's a port of Xenoblade 1. Xenoblade X is the sequel on Wii U.

I managed to put Shulk's english voice on my character. I'm quite happy.

So far while this has multiplayer elements, I'd say it's more of a single player experience than MMO haha. With that said, there's a very small chance you won't be utterly blown away because the game is dead gorgeous. I can't even comprehend how big the areas are.

The game is about exploring vast detailed areas, not 13 year old girls wearing skimpy bikinis. It's not a point that emphasized while playing the game. If it's anything like Xenoblade 1, it's a silly costume you can wear amongst the hundreds of armor combinations.
the fact that this game is about exploring vast detailed areas begs the question of why the inclusion of blatant fanservice which runs contrary to the game's aesthetic was even necessary in the first place, though

when someone criticizes a game for its gross elements and you say 'well, the game's not about that', you're really only underlining how egregious those gross elements are -- and whether or not it's something emphasized in the core plot and gameplay, including young teenage girls in a sexualized context is always something that bears criticism. because it's fucking gross.
Ok, let's not make this topic about that costume and the underlying issue that allowed it's inclusion. Yes it's bad that they are there and yes you guys don't like it, but this isn't the place to bring about that kind of change.

I've been looking forward to this game for a long time. It's the first adult theme 'actual' game that is cool enough to buy. I played some of Xenoblade on Wii and it was pretty fun. I really liked the large maps so this should be even better.

I was pissed that my local Walmart was like 'uh, yeah, the truck didn't come in. try walmart.ca'. So I do and it'll take 2 weeks to come in. So I try the next closest walmart(over 1 hour away) and they don't have it either! Had to call all around the damn province just to find a Best Buy that has it...but I have a delima. My license is expired and it's Friday night xD Do I risk driving over 3 hours(there and back) on an expired license for this game? HMMM

I can't fit it on my Wii U and I really want a disc version anyways. Life is hard sometimes.
The weird tendency for Japanese developers to fetishize their female characters (especially the pre-teens) has been a pretty major embarrassment for me as a player. I hate whenever I play a game and think, "I really hope someone doesn't come in during this scene." It's one of the contributing factors to me not really staying up to date with RPGs anymore.

When I see that in something like Xenoblade Chronicles, it doesn't immediately negate the entirety of the game or anything, but it definitely tells me, "If they're willing to compromise the integrity of the game to sell more copies to pre-teen boys who are too afraid to go to porn sites on the family computer, then they probably watered down the experience in a number of other ways."

Edit: Sorry, Link, you posted that while I was writing. I'm not advocating to fight the power or anything, though, so I'm leaving it.

In this case, you're exactly right, since the game was released incomplete with the ending cut.

we've said like three lines about it total. it's a valid criticism of the game, and as Housekeeping said it has implications for their confidence in the product and the game's goals as a whole. relax.

anyway, that last post places this solidly in the 'watch an LP' pile. it seems like there were a lot of hopes riding on this, so the fact that they'd pull that with the ending is particularly disappointing.
People have made a big fuss over Xenoblade since the first one came out, but honestly it's in the same camp as stuff like Monster Hunter for me- it just seems sort of generally offputting and I doubt I'd ever get into it, especially what with the news of all the creepy pedo-animu shit that they had to take out. Plus, after seeing him Smash 4 the idea of sitting through a JRPG with Shulk as the main character seems kind of infuriating. I just don't like the guy's face.

According to the posts here Xenoblade is apparently a single player MMO type RPG? So yeah, that's a definite no. Those games are generally atrociously boring at the best of times.

Yeah, this is pretty much why I got out of the RPG game years ago, and why I only pick up stuff from the earlier days or after a good deal of research now. That stuff is really offputting/gross, and stops me flat from enjoying games at all, especially considering I find Humans offputting enough as-is. It's just kind of adding insult to injury at that point.
I've enjoyed Monster Hunter on and off, honestly -- the controls just don't do it for me, but I'm fine with that kind of general structure for a game. from a raw gameplay perspective, I'd probably be willing to give Xenoblade X a shot, and I've been straddling the fence up until now, but hearing people's thoughts on the story (and the unskippable dialogue, and the missing ending) has shoved me back into the Curmudgeon Corner.

you don't have to worry about Shulk, though, one way or another. Xenoblade X is a spiritual successor; it has themes and aesthetics from the other Xeno games, but doesn't take place in the same universe. the first Xenoblade Chronicles wrapped up in a way that completely defeats the purpose of trying for a sequel, anyway. you literally could not make a direct sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles that was close enough to the original setting and subject matter to warrant the title.
Probably gonna skip it! I don't want to spend the time to sink 60+ hours into an RPG I might not even like these days, and the trailers didn't really impress me.

negl it's one of the main things that turns me off of a lot of modern games! I really enjoyed the original Xenoblade, but YEAH the weird fanservice moments were jarring and Weird and put me off. I liked enough of the game to look past it, but eeehhh I really don't get why that stuff is included.

I mean, if it was a straight up ero game? Sure... sure, you do that, whatever. Be the fact this is the default way for women to dress in these otherwise non-erotic games -- SUPER sexualized, not even talking about scantily clad here, just sexualized -- is Weird and Gross and I don't like it.

Sounds like you need to Amazon it. I tend to sell my soul to the devil and go to Gamestop for day 1 releases. ):

P.S. I for one find the issue being spoken about vastly over-exaggerated. Personally I find bikinis not sexual at all. When I go swimming I don't see sex everywhere. It's people wearing swimming suits to go swimming. JRPGS have a problem with this issue. Unfortunately it seems like all jrpgs these days will have at least something like this. With that said, a lot of the other offenders have hot spring scenes. Where girls get naked and grope each other. As far as I know (and I sure as hell fucking hope not), Xenoblade X does NOT have anything like that. Xenoblade 1 had a set of gag equipment where everyone had swimsuits. They did it again in this game. It's not even remotely the same as pornography or a substitute to it. It doesn't make the game bad. Not even close. Not even remotely close.

That's the last I'll speak about that issue. I play games to have fun. There seems like there is more of a lack of playing the game in this thread and jumping to conclusions. Even on games I do not like, the last thing I want to do is go around telling people they shouldn't like it. I'd much rather be convinced a game is good than bad, because I am fan of games.

I hope there can be more people willing to speak about the good about this game, which greatly overshadows the issues it has.

Nobody's saying "you shouldn't like it". We're saying "wow what a shame".

Why does it always come to that "logic"?
