Yeah can't wait to play a-genji. I have a one month vacation soon after the launch...

It's more addicting than cocaine. Not that I've tried any.

E: This Widowmaker on top 1st tho:

That shot on Zarya is unreal.
I hear this game is the shit. Is the beta still up, and for how long?

It already ended, sadly. It ran between the 5ᵗʰ to 10ᵗʰ of this month. The game will be out on 24ᵗʰ. It's definitely worth giving a shot.

I hope they'll make it able for people to play it for some sort of trial period for free, because a lot of people have changed their opinions about the game after trying it out. (For better.)

I've been hyped since the first official announcement, but I've been following the general reception as well and a lot of people who've been skeptical and people who've said they're not particular fans of the genre have said they've had tons of fun with the game and they didn't expect to enjoy it as much as they did.

I think part of the reason is that even if it's an FPS arena game of sorts, there's still so many different characters and roles that you're likely to find something fitting your personal play style amongst all of them.

All characters don't require super fast reactions or good aim. You can play support and heal your team, set traps, or turrets, or you can play a disruptor and use beam weapons to freeze your enemies or shoot them with tesla beams.

There's also "tank" characters that are often better at close range and can withstand more damage, their role being to soak the damage and protect the rest of the team.

I don't generally like MOBAs much because without proper coordination with the rest of the team I feel I can't affect the game enough, and usually they require you to always play with a group of friends to be enjoyable.

Somehow it feels a lot more balanced in Overwatch, though. Individual plays can have big impact to the game and there is possibilities to carry your team. The mechanics built to support communication are good, too. There's quick shortcuts for important call outs and a built in voice chat.

One of the best things is not being locked to a single character selection for the entire round. Upon respawning, or at the team spawn zone you can always switch character when you like, and some characters hard counter others, so you can always change approach if you find your team struggling in certain point of the match.

There is a lot of characters to choose from and they're surprisingly different, while still very polished. It feels entirely different playing a melee range guy with a rocket powered hammer, than say, a roller skater who has a healing and speed aura for your team, and an ability to knock enemies back.

You can play a robot who can transform to a minigun sentry, or an ape that can leap around the map with a short range tesla cannon. And that's just a few of the bunch.

And Graphically it's super stylish and immersive too. The characters bring a lot of personality and flavor to the game. They exchange comments with each other during the match and you can customize them with outfits, sprays, emotes, and different intros that occur if you manage to pull off the play of the game. (At the end of the round there will be a replay of the most game affecting play. It's really cool to be featured there for rest of the players to watch.)

Yeah can't wait to play a-genji.

You guys make me proud. XD

I can't wait for release too, so I can get my Hanzo-ll over it once again! :D

This is totally my story.

I legit had no interest in the game. I was like "Meh, another moba shooter. Looks pretty, but I don't really do online games anymore".

Then a friend of mine really started bugging me to try the beta as it was comign to a close (I only started playing on Sunday night) and...

You know what, how about I just show you?

^ Made this myself and I'm a little too proud of it. XD

So yeah. I love it. I think I'm legit showing low-level withdrawal symptoms after having gotten a REALLY good first taste, and then having it abruptly end on me. At least I got a few good games in, and found out that several of my friends are getting it too, so there's going to be plenty of shenanigans with them.

Seriously, it plays really smoothly, the characters are all fun in their own way, and the game goes out of its way to be nice and simple so you can just focus on being as big a credit to your team as possible.

And it has a aura of positivity to it, what with the Play of the Game and the "Commendation" thing at the end of the match. I've legit commended the opponent several times for damn good plays, or for being a really good support.

I don't know how I'm going to survive the next 2 weeks. :o I CRAVE my TF2-With-Superheroes. I wanna get good with all the characters, not just Reinhart, McCreed and Lucio.

EDIT: And can I just say how much fun Lucio is? A support that can really boogie all over the map? Who can not only heal, but also speed boost, throw up barriers, and blast people off cliffs? AND roller blade all over the walls?! Hell yes.

EDIT2: I also have to say, I LOVE "play of the game", and your own personal "highlights" that you can rewatch later. It's a ton of fun and often brings a smile to my face.

And sometimes people have ones that make me laugh my ass off. Seriously, look at this shit:

Wow, that's a looot of whining about Bastion.

Yeah, he's a absurdly strong, but he has counters. The only time he's even remotely OP is when he sets up in a perfect location with little space to flank him.

And even then, Reinhart backed up by a sniper can take him out easy. ...That and Genji's Deflect can be HILARIOUS to use on him. XD

Balance is actually pretty good as far as I can tell. Only person who feels "off" to me so far was D.Va. She seemed a little on the weak side. Not BAD, but just...a little weaker than the others.
Is there a bot mode of Overwatch, for those of us who haven't played a FPS in over a decade to dust off and hone our leet 90s skillz?

You can play against bots yeah, plus there's also a practice range which is pretty cool.

Time for some more and less awesome plays:

Yup, Easy-Normal-Hard bots. You're still stuck with human teammates as far as I know, but the enemies will be bots.

That and the Practice Arena is pretty comprehensive. There's lots of little stuff you can practice there (getting to sniping spots, bots under fire to see how your healing/barrier skills work), and a place with bots moving in an out of cover.
When you chumps are ready for a true freespace 3D FPS, call me up. In the meantime, I might check out Overwatch

Ooohhhh, I remember playing a demo of that a long time ago. It was pretty fun. I should pick it up again sometime. :D Thanks for reminding me that Descent existed.

EDIT: BTW, don't sweat not having played an FPS in a decade. OW is pretty quick to pick up. A lot of heroes don't need pinpoint aim to be good.

Winston: AOE cone of death
McCree: Yes, good aim helps with the primary fire, but he's better used in close quarters with his really strong Secondary fire
Reinhart: No gun. Giant hammer.
And a few others who I can't quite remember right now. Good aim is great, but positioning, smart ability use and solid tactics usually have a bigger impact at lower levels of play.

The only thing i know about this game is that it lags horribly in the humble desktop i played it in and that it has spawned an alarming amount of SFM porn in all the imageboards i frequent. Surprisingly, it's mostly *not* Tracer porn, despite her being like the game's face.

I honestly couldn't get a good impression due to not having the best machine to experience the game from, but my friend says it's basically tf2 with more balancing issues due to the large amount of characters.

I've seen the claim that, unlike tf2, you don't necessarily need to work as a team to win the game, which is good and refreshing because people aren't going to be teamworking it up anyway.

The game didn't seem that unbalanced to me because you can change heroes at almost any time. If the enemy team's composition seems to be steamrolling you, you can just mix up yours to counter it, if you can figure out the right combination.

fuck, games are expensive.

While waiting for Tuesday morning...

"How to Improve your AIM in Overwatch"

"AIM BETTER"

kthx!
Eh, I found Cynical Nerds tutorials WAY better. For one, the voice of their main guys doesn't make me cringe, and two, the tactical knowledge and overviews of the characters and their strengths and weaknesses are far more useful.

Getting good at aiming is just practice and learning how to lead targets if your weapon isn't hitscan.
