WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING?
Posts
A thread about what people do for work.
I work in Taiwan teaching English as a second language.
Before that I worked in a group home for children with special needs (In Canada.)
Years and years ago I worked in a museum. http://parksvillemuseum.ca/
In my teens, I was an actor. In addition to my main profession, I've spent several years as a cook (not quite a chef but I was in charge for a couple of years) in an Italian kitchen. For that entire time, my main profession has been piano rebuilder and tuner.
I manage apartments and do groundskeeping, my second job is primary maintenance at my local McDonalds. It's so close I can walk between the two in 5mins or less.
I've done all sorts of stuff though, custodian at a place that made airplane and space shuttle parts, helped run a slots mini casino and prior to the apartment managing I did painting and remodeling on houses and apartments pretty much everyday.

I've done everything from working at a nuclear plant to daycare teacher. Right now I'm studying to be a windpower technician, before that I worked as a taxi driver for a couple of year, which really helped up my probably below average social skills.
Working at an airport atm. Previously did long haul expedite trucking, odd jobs, landscaping, worked in a kitchen, and served in Artillery Reserves.
Really, I just want to be a writer or comic artist.

I work in the tech infrastructure department of a major financial services organisation, as part of an "Agile" feature team cycling between various projects.
Currently I'm working from home, trying to fix the Jenkins build process that I broke.
So like psy, I guess you could call me a software engineer.

I'm the lead graphic designer of a local printing company, i'm in charge of designing every request that comes here. Mostly we do business cards, flyers, posters and signs.
I'm in administration at a library. Can't say yet if this will be what I do for the rest of my life, though.
I don't have a job at the moment, but before I came to college I used to be a Scaffolder at both Syncrude and Husky Sunrise, contracted by Kiewit and Saipem respectively.
I am a shitty programmer for an insurance corporation
Before that I was a shitty programmer for a different kind of insurance corporation.

I run a power plant. You know electricity? Yeah, there's Tesla, Henry and Ohm, and then there's me. Next time the power goes out on you, I'm awfully sorry (not really).
But yeah, I basically do what Homer Simpson did before the episode he became Safety Inspector.

I'm a social media analyst. It is my job to slowly turn all the parts of the internet you like into soulless profit-generating spheres for corporations.
