WHAT GAMES WOULD BE ON SNES MINI?

So we've all heard of the NES Mini (which releases on November 11th, btw), but what if Nintendo also had it in mind to release an SNES Mini?

What 30 games would you curate for one of the greatest consoles of all time?

Just 30 entries of Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, right?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System_games

Here's my attempt:

Super Mario World
Super Metroid
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
F-Zero
Donkey Kong Country
Chrono Trigger
Yoshi's Island
Final Fantasy III (VI)
SimCity
Kirby Superstar
Mega Man X
Rock n' Roll Racing
Secret of Mana
Super Bomberman
Star Fox
Super Mario Kart
Super Punch-Out!!
NBA Jam Tournament Edition
Metal Warriors
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
Killer Instinct
E.V.O.: Search for Eden
Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
Earthworm Jim
Yoshi's Cookie
Super Adventure Island II
Claymates
Final Fantasy II (IV)
Vegas Stakes

This was pretty hard! There are a few on this list that were simply a given (like a SNES Mini would ever be made without Super Mario World, Link to the Past or Super Metroid). My list is a little RPG heavy, but SNES had a lot of quality RPGs. If I were to drop one, it would be Final Fantasy IV as it has been remade a billion times and its inclusion on here would not be a draw to the casual crowd. Some of these are less popular personal favorites (EVO and Super Adventure Island II, for example).

I really wanted to include NHL 96 (it was the best one!) but then you'd have to include one of the Madden NFL games and probably a soccer game too, so it would crowd out more deserving games. I think that Earthbound is too niche (and dull) to include. Desert Strike was a lot of fun, but probably don't want a Desert Storm themed game on a Nintendo renaissance system. Mario Paint would need a separate controller so it's out. I have a list of about another dozen games I considered, on top of that.

EDIT:
I also excluded collection games, like Super Mario All-Stars. That's a cop out!

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Games I would get rid of from Kentona's list:

NBA Jam Tournament Edition (Solid option, but I have a better basketball game)
E.V.O.: Search for Eden (This game is just terrible overall and offers nothing that the other platformers don't do better)
Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems (This game is unbearably slow and clunky)
Super Adventure Island II (This game's graphics have aged very poorly, and we have enough platformers)
Claymates (Why would you even suggest this)
Final Fantasy 2 (Great game, but we don't need two Final Fantasy games)
Vegas Stakes (Nobody gives a shit about single-player casino games)

Games I would replace them with:

Looney Tunes B-Ball
Contra 3
Super Castlevania 4
Super Mario RPG (or Lufia 2)
Wild Guns
Harvest Moon
Zombies Ate My Neighbors

FF2 is a great game, but Lufia 2 or Mario RPG should replace it for a wider variety of gameplay - they play very differently from the other RPGs in the list. Probably Mario RPG because it's more well-known.

NBA Jam is a fine basketball game but there's no particular reason to play instead of modern basketball games. Looney Tunes B-Ball is way more unique, it's like NBA Jam with Smash Bros. items that you can disable, and the regular basketball feels about as smooth as NBA Jam. The roster is also more timeless.

Wild Guns and Harvest Moon were both fantastic games in genres that were unrepresented on your list, so I felt like they were almost mandatory to add.

I almost added Ogre Battle to the list, just because it's so unique. Its main problem is that it's not a game that a casual player can pick up and enjoy.

If alternate controllers worked I would ditch Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Super Castlevania 4 in favor of Mario Paint and Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge. There are already two other top-down action-adventure games and seven other platformers, so I'd be happy to get rid of them in favor of a really good game in an unrepresented genre.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Lufia & the Fortress of Doom
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals
Earthbound
Super Castlevania IV
Super Ghouls and Ghosts
Street Fighter 2
Super Street Fighter 2
Final Fight
F-Zero
Super Punch Out!!
Super Metroid
Secret of Mana
Megaman X
Megaman X2
Pocky and Rocky
Donkey Kong Country
Pacman 2: the New Adventures
Donkey Kong Country 3
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2
Super Mario Kart
Final Fantasy II (IV)
Final Fantasy II (VI)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Doom
Run Saber
Super Empire Strikes Back
Out of this World

Yeah, a lot of sequels in this list, but whatever. I grew up with a Sega Genesis, not a SNES, so I want to play all the good stuff that I missed based on what I've heard and what I've seen from random LPs. Run Saber in particular looks like a lot of fun to load up and play with a friend.

EDIT: Yeah I replaced DKC2 with Pacman 2 and Megaman X3 with Pocky and Rocky. Fight me.

Your list has too many really similar games. You really shouldn't have multiple games from the same series unless it's Super Mario World and Super Mario World 2.

Also, Lufia 1 is terrible, burn it with fire. Pac-Man 2 should stay in the list just to troll people who buy the console though.

You do bring up an interesting point about people buying this because they had a competing system instead in the 90s. Perhaps Yoshi's Cookie, Street Fighter 2 and SimCity should be removed because they were on multiple other systems. But then you also lose FF6 and Chrono Trigger... you can't lose Chrono Trigger, it has to be the exception to that rule.

It's a mini SNES only for me. Products should only be made for me. I'll make it happen somehow.

Oh fine. I GUESS I should consider everyone else as well. Hm...

Claymates
Final Fantasy II (IV)
Vegas Stakes

This list meets my criterion as being the definitive list, except I would add Doom to the list because the SNES version is easily the best console version. I would say Flashback as well, but the SNES version was utter trash next to the Genesis version.
LockeZ is seriously underestimating the cultural impact of NBA Jam.

"He's on fire!!"

I forgot all about super mario RPG. But it is a forgetable and pretty lame game overall.

Vegas Stakes is a 4 player game.

And I dont know of any other platformers where you get to evolve into a dinosaur

Regarding Claymates, there was a buzz with claymation in videogames and I figured Claymates would be the most accessible over Clayfighter.

Whats Wild Guns?

Also SimCity on SNES was pretty unique imho.

NBA Jam is the ONLY sports game I've ever liked.

You have Yoshi's Island right there in your list! It's a platformer where you play as a dinosaur that can evolve into a helicopter or mole-tank!
Magi
Resident Terrapin
1028
Shaq Fu and Cool Spot
An SNES Mini should *DEFINTELY* have Tetris Attack. Other games that I feel are worthy are Puzzle Bobble (Bust-A-Move) and HyperZone. Anything that provides multiplayer goodness is a plus, such as Turtles in Time and Mario Kart. I'm not a fan of NBA Jam but people seem to really dig this one so I don't see why not. I just wouldn't waste slots on any fighting games, or anything with random battles, or Mario Paint since it requires a mouse. Doom is definitely a no go since the SNES version is terribad.
Okay, here is my list:

Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Zelda: A Link to the Past
F-Zero
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 2
Chrono Trigger
Yoshi’s Island
Final Fantasy III
Kirby Superstar
Megaman X
Secret of Mana
Super Bomberman
Star Fox
Super Mario Kart
Super Punch-Out!!
Turtles in Time
Mortal Kombat 2
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
Earthworm Jim
Super Castlevania IV
Bust-a-Move
Contra III: The Alien Wars
Lion King
Lemmings
Tetris Attack
SimCity
Harvest Moon
NBA Jam
Zombies Ate My Neighbors!

I'd pay fortunes for this system tbh.
LockeZ

Lemmings, like FF6, is on every system known to mankind. But unlike FF6, the SNES wasn't its debut system; it was the fifth system it was ported to. It's like including Pac-Man.

Aren't DKC and DKC2 pretty much the exact same game? I can understand not being able to pick one, I guess, but just flip a coin.

I like the rest of your list even though I'm not sure how Lion King made it on there instead of Aladdin.

Whats Wild Guns?

I never owned an SNES so my list is probably mostly of games I've heard of waybackwhen I read those nintendo magazines. (And all games that start with "Super")

ActRaiser
Another World
Cannon Fodder
Donkey Kong Country
F-Zero
Final Fight
Harvest Moon
Killer Instinct
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Lost Vikings
Mega Man X
NBA Jam
Pilotwings
Puzzle Bobble
Secret of Mana
SimCity
Starwing
Super Castlevania IV
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Super Punch Out
Super Probotector
Super R-Type
Super Soccer
Super Street Fighter II
Super Tennis
TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
Unirally
Zombies Ate My Neighbours

My list is also PAL-centric. So no NA-only games. (so basically no RPGs and no Maddens)

I also haven't played most of these since as I said I never had an SNES I just remember the games that seemed well-received in those magazines (and/or important touchstones)

True, Lemmings belongs to PC anyway. So maybe switch that with Aladdin. Lion King made there under my own personal preferences :P

As for DKC2, NES mini also had few sequels. but maybe those were a bit more justified on second inspection...

I'm surprised how many of you put Killer Instinct instead of Mortal Kombat on your lists. I feel MK is way more iconic SNES game (back then). Shinan, good call on Super Tennis and Lost Vikings!
I think I confused Yoshis Cookie with Tetris Attack. I wanted Tetris Attack.
Grandia 3, Resident Evil 3: Remake and Hero's Realm 3.
EVO has a unique concept and level up system, with pretty good graphics and awesome music. I love that game and you should too.

I kinda feel that Illusion of Gaia or Terranigma would make an actual list over EVO. I could be wrong.

*Edit: Though, EVO is kinda like Spore before there was Spore, so, who knows?
