The Lowdown:
After a grueling stretch of an 82 game regular season has finally come to a dramatic close, 16 of the 30 remaining teams left will now do battle for hockey’s ultimate holy grail: The Stanley Cup.

Will the mighty Pittsburgh Penguins, champions of last year, manage to repeat themselves as champions once again? Can the Chicago Blackhawks manage to win their 4th Stanley Cup in seven years with Jonathon Toews, Patrick Kane and company? Can the Washington Capitals, after having a President’s Trophy season, manage to break through the entire Eastern Conference this time around and finally win it all? Or maybe it will be one of the many Canadian teams this year, such as the Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators or Montreal Canadians that will finally bring the cup back to Canada after more than two decades?

Just like with the previous years, not only are we going to be discussing and reacting to everything that is the Stanley Cup Playoffs here, but we’re also holding a playoff prediction pool where the winner (or winners) will receive an achievement badge for their ultimate mastery (or complete dumb luck) that is the game of hockey.

The Bracket:

The Rules:
From all the playoff matches that are listed above, you must pick the winner of each playoff series from the 1st round all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals and how many games that each particular series will go to.

For each team that you manage to guess correctly that advances you will receive 2 points. If you manage to successfully predict how many games a particular series will happen to go to you will earn yourself a bonus point, even if that particular team that you happen to pick in that series ends ultimately losing in the end. And if you happen to guess both the team that wins and the correct number of games as well you’ll earn up to 4 points in total, so it’s crucial that you happen to get both of them right (if you can).

Also, the team that you pick to ultimately win the Stanley Cup plays a big factor in your pool too, as any matchup that team is involved in will net you double the amount of points, so it’s possible to get up to a maximum of 8 points each if that team not only wins the round but also if you correctly predict the right amount of games for it too!

The Prize:

For this year, the participant(s) that earn the most points at the end of this year’s playoffs will be given the Brent Burns Beard Award that’s worth 5 whole makerscore points with a face that only a shark could love.

Oh, and for anybody who’s considering picking Washington this year to win it all - you might wanna watch this first, lol:

I'll pick my teams tomorrow. Right now I'm just too tired and I just wanna go to bed.

- Good luck to everyone! Try not to screw up!!! :D

Calgary vs Anaheim

Well I'll just post what I want to see happen since that worked out well last time! Nashville takes it to the conference finals, Battle of Alberta where somehow Calgary wins despite not being able to win in Anaheim and lost every game to Edmonton this year (although this was only in the first half of the year because NHL scheduling is fucked), Pittsburgh will get bounced, Ontario vs Montreal, and final being Calgary vs Columbus I think. I'm still torn on if I support Washington although their players and GM supporting telling the NHL to fuck off and have their stars play in the Olympics is a good starting position.
I got burned by the Caps 3 years running. But they lool so good this year! Could it be their year??

Also Oilers are going to make a surprise run and take it to the finals.

I'll post my picks tonught or tomorrow

Nashville takes it to the conference finals, somehow Calgary wins despite not being able to win in Anaheim.

What’s the deal with you and Nashville, anyway? And has Calgary really not beaten Anaheim at home yet - still!? I thought they have by now! *looks it up*

…You gotta be kiddin’ me...

(Now watch Calgary win every single game in Anaheim while losing the rest of them at home and manage to beat the Ducks in seven games that way and move on because of that, lol.)

I, too, have been burned by these bumbling boobs for the last, past three years in a row now, and now I’m not really sure what to believe with them anymore...

(...Watch them finally win now when no one's picking them anymore, lol.)

- This ain’t no 2006 there, Kenton!

@ Cap_H – Done, and done. Your predictions are in. :)

EDIT: Cap_H, you have the Penguins winning in round one but the Blue Jackets are in the second round instead. Did you mean the Penguins?

Yeah, Anaheim's rink has been Calgary's archnemesis for some time now. It's really frustrating, especially when we face them in the playoffs. I also cheer for Nashville partly because I'm a sucker for underdogs and partly when Calgary had a massive flood including several levels of our arena Nashville who suffered something similar helped out with some advice (although I can't find the article where they did).

So, predictions!
First Round

Washington beats Toronto in 5.

The Penguins having half their team out and Crosby unable to carry them on his own get in trouble against Columbus who want this year to be that year! Columbus beats Pittsburgh in 6.

Carry Price shows why he's the best while the rest of his team floofs around and the Rangers can't quite find the crack to put them away. Canadiens beat Rangers in 5.

I don't know shit about Ottawa and Boston this year so I'll just forego the fake rationalization when I just want Habs vs Sens. Ottawa beats Boston in 6.

Blackhawks still reeling from losing to Colorado will only be able to skate awkwardly in circles and shoot pucks into the netting above the glass. Nashville beats Chicago in 6.

The Blues will act like this will be their year to get somewhere and clean up the Wild. Blues beast Wild in 5.

Oilers are hot and want to kick butt. The Sharks on the other hand are content to reach the playoffs and immediately crash. Oilers beat Sharks in 4.

Calgary will finally break their losing streak in Anaheim in game 7, finally advancing past the Ducks in the playoffs and ending their horrible losing streak. Calgary beats Anaheim in 7.

Round 2
Like a shooting star the Capitals burn through the sky until they completely burn up. Columbus beats Washington in 7.

MEGA BATTLE OF EASTERN CANADA. Everybody's picking on Montreal so I'll stick up for Ottawa. Ottawa beats Montreal in 6.

St. Louis sees the fantastic job Washington is doing and decides to do the exact same... in double time! Nashville beats St. Louis in 5.

MEGA BATTLE OF ALBERTA. Calgary is happy with breaking trends including breaking Edmonton's perfect record against Calgary this year! Calgary beats Edmonton in 6.

Round 3
Ottawa, broken from their battle against Montreal, gets handily cleaned up by Columbus who are on fire and see the cup in reach. Columbus beats Ottawa in 5.

Of course Calgary can beat Nashville! Should be easy sailing from here. Calgary beats Nashville in 6.

STANELY CUP FINAL
Calgary somehow and against all odds wins the Stanley Cup over Columbus in 6.

e: I will be glad if I get double digit points with these picks
Hexatona is deep into the dizzy sauce. His picks make no sense.

GRSs picks are entertaining. I want a Battle of Alberta too.

Well, I just wanted to maximize the randomness -0 what if I'm wrong at the start!? I could be losing out on mucho points. So, for each round, I chose (randomly) from the full available roster for that point.

Could you imagine if that happens again, especially against the Blue Jackets? I would think that Ovi would want to get the hell out of there as soon as possible for next season, because that organization is cursed! CURRRSSSEEEDDD!!!

Calgary somehow and against all odds wins the Stanley Cup over Columbus in 6.
