MOIN

Moin, as the people of my land say as a shorthand for 'good morning', although it's not used exclusively in the morning, but throughout the day as a jovial greeting,

this is my first venture into the international RPG Maker community. I've been part of the German RPG Maker community since the early days of 2003, at a time when I stood in awe of the revolutionary, modern, probably much too advanced engine called 'RPG Maker 2003'. Intimidated by this futuristic title, I kept to what I knew, which was RPG Maker 2000. I didn't want to relearn everything, after all.

I tinkered with the engine, which was my first contact with the world of programming. RPG Maker taught me important concepts such as variables, fork conditions and aimless programming, which were valuable lessons that could be applied to 'real' programming later on.

One year later, the RPG Maker landscape was revolutionized by the release of RPG Maker XP. Double the resolution, addition of an alpha channel and an integrated scripting language broadened the possibilities to an unfathomable extent. I mostly stayed away from it.

When I used RPG Maker XP, I only ever did event scripting. Ruby went against the fundamental idea behind RPG Maker, which in my mind was game development without the need to learn a programming language. I only used RmXP for its graphical advantage.

Some years later, I realized that I don't like high resolution graphics and that retro graphics are the only art style I will ever let into my heart. So I returned to Rm2k and released some trashy (some would say pornographic) games that caused a small stir in the German RPG Maker community, or at least what was left of it in 2013.

Nowadays, I use Rm2k in conjunction with DestinyPatcher, which adds a scripting language to Rm2k. I'm currently developing some scripts that are meant to push the boundaries of what's possible with this dusty old engine. In my opinion, the only way to enjoy Rm2k is with a scripting language.

So that's me. I rejected RmXP's official scripting language only to use an outdated engine with an unofficial scripting language.

Why? Because I'm a masochist it's fun.

Hello everyone.

A fantastic addition to the memberbase no doubt, welcome aboard!
That patcher might sound like a lovely discovery to many local 2k users, of which we have plenty.

These days most of the chitchat happens in the site's discord, however we appreciate any and all use of our dear forums. Feel free to participate in our occasional events too, that's the best way to make yourself known!
