The Japanese version of the site looks like it's the same stuff as the English one.
I think it's just that Degica gives zero fucks and is like, "What, you scrubs gonna learn real coding and make a game in Unity from scratch? LOL give us your money, asshole."

...Why was none of this in their announcement, on the coming-soon page, or on the Steam page? This is all stuff that potential customers would be interested in!
I don't though, however TouchFuzzy who's the head honcho over on RPG Maker Web said this all himself, I swear on my own grave to all i've spoken. No lies here.
Basically, the few screen shots they've shown show he main editor, and someone pointed out that one of the words was japanese for Layer..
So TouchFuzzy came in and basically was like "i can actually confirm and talk about this" I don't think the Japanese folks thought anyone would notice.
Either way, it's all true.
Oh sorry, I didn't mean to sound dismissive, I believe you, TouchFuzzy knows what he's talking about.
I just feel like they're doing a poor job marketing their new maker if we have to dig around for all these details right after a big announcement.

Most of the marketing atm seems to be geared to the long term "here's what RPG Maker is." Which is a contradicting theory... I'm assuming most profits on launch are gonna be from returning users, couldn't hurt to have a detailed feature blog post though.

A lot of companies these days are focused on constant growth, to the exclusion of reason. So it's a constant effort to find new consumers, even if the product is "engine that appeal primarily to an ever-shrinking niche of old people, because nobody new knows or cares about SNES style JRPGs except for a tiny fraction of internet kids that like horror games."

I'm pretty sure those are all made by the same small handful of developers that mass-produce them as quickly as possible, so it's probably more time-effective to use RTP.

Porn games sell pretty easily. People making shit porn games want money. It costs money to commission artists. Buyers of steam porn games don't give a shit about ethics or really anything other than porn.

The layers sound cool! The advertising has definitely been underwhelming but I wasn't planning on buying unless it was really impressive post-release anyway. It is kind of silly how they're doing it though. You'd think a list of new features and old features combined would be helpful for attracting new customers as well as enticing the existing base.
