I got a player who is unable to play Hero's Realm (that ancient RM2k3 game) and they are getting an error:

it says "dderr_unsupported"

They have the latest directx,
Tried to change RPG_RT.exe to compatibility mode with Windows 7,
updating the directX,
turning into 640x480 resolution,

but nothing works.

I do NOT encounter this issue, and my googling just brought the basic suggestions above. So any help is appreciated!

Have they tried turning it off and on again?

From what I remember, this could be a monitor issue that has trouble supporting lower resolutions natively. I know the Steam version of 2k3 fixed this issue with resolution support.

Edit: Interestingly enough, I remember getting this error as well when I had Win7, I'm currently using Win10 and haven't experienced that issue at all

If they don't want to use the Steam version or the hack that changes how full screen works (I forget where that is) they can also force the game to play in windowed mode with a shortcut.

Just make a shortcut of the .exe and edit the Target by adding "Window". The end should look something like the following:

"C:\Users\fake\Hero's Realm\RPG_RT.exe" "NormalPlay" "ShowTitle" "Window"
