Yeah, The Evil Within is a fun game, and it does a great job of reinforcing tension through its game mechanics. I beat it twice because I enjoyed it so much as an action game with horror elements.

But it's about as subtle as a yodeling clown blowing an air horn in your face. In a horror game, subtlety is kinda important.

Good to hear about the Assignment, though. If I hadn't traded it in, I may have checked it out.

I was going to touch on this too. Even today there are no games like Mother games, so I don't necessarily buy that they were hugely influential to the gaming industry. Most of their success has been in cult spaces. Pokemon and Animal Crossing are especially dubious, Pokemon in particular, because the inspiration for Pokemon came from the hobby of collecting insects and Satoshi Tagiri's desire to replicate the feeling of connecting with pets and relieving stress by adventuring and having fun with them. Besides, Earthbound and Pokemon RBY were in development at the same time pretty much, so I'd find it hard to believe that they were inspired by something that wasn't even out yet.

The Mother series was more influential in Japan than it was in the West, hence the only Mother game that was localized (Earthbound) sold terribly.

From what I remember the game was made to 1up Dragon Quest both in terms of story and stylistic choice, breaking the common tropes of all RPGs being based off medieval fantasy settings.

Which is funny because Dragon Queen routinely has wacky scenarios, designs and characters that really aren't far off from the Mother series. Mother just has a, well, Eagleland coat of paint.

My condolences. You didn't have to do that to yourself.
I didn't understand what Evil Within was trying to be. At first they were advertising it as a return to RE1... then as more gameplay trailers surface it basically looked like RE4. Then when you play it's just a stupid third person shooter with a crafting system, thrown in stealth mechanics, cinematic moments that play nothing like the rest of the game. I was already bored of that during the last of us and tomb raider.

I would say Mikami is just washed up hack but then again I would like another Vanquish, you know a game that was fresh and wasn't confused about what it was.

Is it as addicting as the original title it parodies?

I still keep my first and only Yugioh pack for the fun of it.

Monster Hunter 4 takes a big chunk of my gaming time (village High Rank currently). The rest was FF X HD (never played it before, awesome, awesome RPG, though I am stuck on a boss fight), but Bloodborne was released, so FF X has to wait till I finish that.
I thought I would burn out, since both MH and Bloodborne take a more methodical aproach to combat and are somewhat similar, but I am having a blast playing both, switching back and forth.

Oh, and Bloodborne is fucking great. Fought 2 bosses so far, first one took 2 tries, but the second one.... so strong, unrelenting and agile. Decent amount of HP to boot. Took at least 6 tries to take him down.
So similar to Dark Souls, yet quite a bit different. The setting and atmosphere are great, the only gripe so far are the slightly longer loading times, which add up when you die a lot (2nd boss, I am looking at YOU). Also the camera can be a bit wonky, but nothing that really bothered me that much.

Bloodborne is great. I love how parrying works in this game. I still havent beaten the second boss by my god is he fun to fight.
Indeed very fun to fight,I like how
during the first 2 parts of the battle you can hide behind the graves to avoid his gun or get a breather, but after he transforms, he just charges through them like butter. Took me by surprise

As far as parrying goes, I had to look online on how to do it. I knew you had to stun the enemy with your gun (this part I could do, getting the typical Souls "parry sound"), but the actual attack after that I managed to do only once, on the second boss :D Apart from this, I have a strict no-guide policy. I kinda ruined Demon’s Souls for myself by looking at online guides for every area/item/boss, which kinda defeats the feeling of exploration, wonder and achievement, after you figure out a tough boss or find a hidden NPC, item, etc.
Just tried out my first mobile game, Final Fantasy Record Keeper. In recent news, I've also deleted my first ever mobile game, Final Fantasy Record Keeper. Ugh. Remind me why people like cell phone games?

The interface is atrocious, the first half hour of the game is a tutorial that practically insists that the player acknowledge that Final Fantasy 7 was a very popular game (FF7 music playing, FF7 being the starting zone, Sephiroth being the first painting you see, the Buster Sword and Cloud being teased in the relic tutorials, the list goes on), and after that I start the game and immediately feel like I don't know how to play, because I didn't learn by playing, I learned by being force fed text bubbles and pointer fingers.

Plus, Freya isn't in the game, despite it featuring boss battles that were important in her character development. Fuck that noise.

There are a great many mobile games, though. Can't really judge them all based on one ;)

Is it that horrible? I know it's predecessor the Bravest of all, which is made to be horribly accessible by just giving you one single input by swiping your button on your characters to make it do a single attack.

You'll have like, 32 team member doing their signature attacks, and they die in one hit and is only invincible when they are doing their animation attack.
So it all comes down to "keep spamming your button till everyone dies" and then wait it out until the meter fills in again.
Defeating the final boss will take you two/three times dying, but you'll definitely win since you won't be punished fo rdying andstays in the same screen with the boss with fully replenished HP and specials, while your enemy dies out.

Like, an music tap game...it's there to let you listen the music and break your finger.

Only 1-6 is accesible in that game, so i suppose record keeper continues that release....

So, is it comparably horrible?
I haven't played the other FF mobile games, so I can't compare but... It's pretty awful. Bad game feel all around.

tower of saviors is THE mobile game. it is perfect. all hail tower of saviors
I recently finished Link to the Past, and now I'm playing Ocarina of Time because my friend wouldn't stop moaning about how I've never finished it.

I fucking hate this game. I cannot imagine what sick fantasies are in people's heads when they call it "the best Zelda" or even "one of the best games ever". I'm about blow my head off with a shotgun over this diarrhea.

Also, fuck the dumbass that invented Dark Link. Fuck him to hell.
I think Ocarina of Time is still a decent game, but it's definitely not the best Zelda. People are so nostalgia-blind over that one. It was the first 3D Zelda, so I think it made a really major impression on people, but, I mean, since it was the first, there were some growing pains. I think Link to the Past holds up a lot better. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were both better 3D entries.
