2K3: RAPID MONSTER ATTACKS

I've always ignored the AI Control button in 2k3, but I've got to wondering:
How well, exactly, does the 2k3 ally AI perform? Is it reasonably competent, or is it auto-attack?
Does it draw from battle commands, or does it go straight to know skills (even if they don't have the proper skill subset for it)?

I seem to recall it preferring to use mp costly skills with the occasional attack thrown in, and sometimes using a healing skill when health is low. Pretty basic but functional.
Hmm... doesn't seem to like status effects to much.
Damn shame, it made the ATB bar move FAST.

NEW QUESTION
In short, when a character gets both, they should cancel out.
If I could just set a conditional branch to check for status effects, then I could remove them by battle event.
...Any way to do this?

The topic title was supposed to change.
Well, in VX you can do this right in the database (like have Haste remove Slow instead of just letting a character have both) and to turn the function on there's a radio button called "Offset by Opposite." Since you're using 2k3, however, you should just set the effects to wildly different priorities so that the engine will randomly delete them.
NEW QUESTION II: ATTACK OF THE ?
Simply put: How does one make a monster attack, or at least seem to, several to a dozen times in rapid succession?
