@Kaempfer: Thanks for commenting, yeh I agree with you about the whole zombie thing, there needs to be more exploration instead of a shitload of zombies everywhere, just like in the zombie movies or it will get terribly boring and hard to play.

All right, now that the HUD looks okay and I got the core mechanics all figured out, I'm working on stage aesthetics.



I still have the green crisscross tile for other levels, but it contrasted too badly with the red walls here (the area's fire-themed). I made that wall tile from scratch, but wasn't sure if it blended well enough with the more highly detailed future chipset. Any thoughts on what's pictured here? Not just the walls, but the whole bit?

@NB: Usually I'm not a fan of character art in game since I find it always sticks out like a sore thumb, but the resolution/colour choice on that picture mixed with the lower-resolution background really make it look like something that would fit in quite nicely, graphically.

If you want to make the text flow a little bit more smoothly (and grammatically), just add a comma: "Mankind, fearful of the unknown, will always seek understanding of the forbidden."

And just as the tiniest of nitpicks: Your version without the flap looks better, but the shading is a bit rough where you edited it. Try to take the border to one pixel thick instead of 2-3. Like I said, this is something nobody will notice and doesn't matter, but it's good to keep in mind for the future.


@AFD: I am not trying to point out every little flaw in your ABS, pal. ABSes in RM2k3 are usually really bad and I am hyper-critical of them as a result. I don't like people who say "it's good for RM2k3" because that is a terrible way to look at it. It doesn't have to be stellar, but it should be fun and the reason I suggested extending the hit radius is because a common problem ABSes have is that you just run up and hit the attack key and then run away and try again. You have shown you don't care about valid feedback (such as the feedback about the HUD which is too big and obscured the playing area) so why should I bother to try and phrase myself in a positive manner? Just as an example: SupremeWarrior has asked for feedback and I have given him a lot of it in the past (At GW) and he has taken mine and others into consideration and improved a lot as a result. If you didn't ignore everything people said, I'd be more likely to try and actually give you advice.


p.s. guys in case you didn't realise that screenshot I posted wasn't from my current game, it was from my old game that I have since scrapped. I just posted it because I got the top of the page and I don't really want to post screenshots from my new game yet.

I'm in the process of changing the hud but the had has more code than the regular HP so it's taking quite a while to change.

I've taken what everybody has said but mostly what people have said is "Abses are bad on rm2k3."
Theres nothing I can do about that.
But thats some peoples opinions.

Everybody has opinions. I'll change the HP bar because yes it is big.

Alright i'm sorry for being a little overly abrasive but it rubbed me the wrong way to hear harsh critism from somebody who hasn't really shown anything impressive his self.

The bar will be changed, but I love the boss and everthing else. That boss was hella complicated to code, and i'm proud of him.

Some peoples opinions aren't worth shit but that doesn't really apply in this case.

Some people do these things for the feeling of accomplishment though it makes no difference to the player if the game plays exactly the same.
