I use Snagit.
It can record fullscreen or a specific area on the screen. It's not that difficult to use.

FRAPS can do this. I think you can download a demo of it.

The demo version of Fraps only lets you record 30-second clips, but if you Google "free fraps" or "fraps alternative" or whatever you shouldn't have any trouble finding programs.
not to mention the torrents of other programs available all over the internet that do the exact thing you're looking for in fraps.
