HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU FIRST USED RM?

I think I was about 12 personally, a friend showed me RM95 on his PC when I went around his house. We had huge ideas for epic (and cliche) RPGs which we hadn't the slightest idea how to make.

Things haven't changed all that much for me now to be honest.

Later I'd go on to use 2k for a while, to no real avail. A few years later I'd have a few decent attempts at games in 2k3, in fact, a friend and I even made a semi-parody GTA-style game using RM2K3! ;)

Believe it or not I hadn't the slightest idea any real RM online "community" really existed until maybe late last year/early this year.

Late boomer for me...around 19 or so. I basically discovered it while working on a freelance project with a computer learning school for kids.

When i started, i had no idea what the following things were: Switches, variables, battle events, common events, ability to add graphics. Still managed to make a 2hour long game though...

I dare say I was 11, 12 at absolute oldest, when my brother first introduced me to the Rpg Maker 2000. At the time, he was working on a game for one of his classes at school. I guess I just sort of walked up to him while he was at the desked and yelled out "woah, what's that?" He described that it's this program that you can use to make games. This blew my mind that you could actually make games using some program on the computer and I continued to ask him questions, namely "how do you do that?"

My first game was called Dragon Quest, where you play as a silent protagonist who just so happened to be that blue flying dragon RTP char usually used as a vehicle. There wasn't much in the terms of storyline, so you just went from point A to point B fighting bosses which wouldn't disappear because of my lack of knowledge of this magically little thing called a "switch". You'd eventually go to the final boss' lair, which I believe was in a sort of dark world. Turns out he's a werewolf. Had I not been such a raging Squaresoft fanboy at the time, I probably would have held onto this game and the "make a game in a day" boss-run sequel that followed. Instead I deleted them simply because the title was the same of an already established game series. Had I been a bit older and a bit more rational, I would have just gone ahead and changed the name.

Then again, Mystic Quest isn't all that much better.

I also find it kind of odd that in my earlier years I wanted to make a full-blown Final Fantasy IX remake using RM2k, out of my great love for the game at the time (previous #1 favorite game, with Starfox Adventures coming in a close second).
I was 18 when I started using RPG Maker, both the SNES RPG Maker 2 (Super Dante 2, as mentioned above) and the first version of RPG Maker 95- both by TNomad and crew. However, I had been toying with the idea of making an RPG since I was 11 (that's even before RPG Maker 98 was released in Japan in December 1992). You can thank/blame Dragon Warrior I-IV and Final Fantasy IV for that.

I usually just make these games for fun, though sometimes near the end of a project, I do it because it's almost done anyway. Apparently someone else enjoys them, as the latest complete project got very close to average. Maybe there's some potential there?

A few of my attempts are available here on RMN. I've also been in many RM communities over the years. From a site known as RPG Maker Gurus to RPG Maker Downloads to the NeXus to Imbiss to this very site's predecessor, to the late Gaming World (LOL Salt World), to the whole Ghostlight/Loose Cannon/Township Games and back to Ghostlight fiasco, and now here.

I made bosses disapear using telports. Had to make an entire map for every single boss.
I was 7, with rpg maker 95. Then 2000, but it took a month to figure out that I needed the RTP to make it work.

i was born in the womb of a rudra charset edit.
i will never abide the taint of rpgmaker and its ilk on my computer
I started with the PSX version, then went to RM95, then 2000+. I think I was about 14-15 years old when I began.
My first game - that I planned out in an old exercise book and then filled two memory cards with data was Even Day. The premise, characters and general look/feel is the same now as it was back then.
With 95 I made a game about a witch (who wasn't really evil) that the king (who was) asked you to kill. Your second character was a fairy and I was about halfway through it. I deleted it/lost it somehow and regret it ever since.
I grew up on RPG Games, my Dad and I were fanatics. The first game I had ever played was Chrono Trigger, at the age of six. The first time I played it I was hooked, later on my Dad kept buying games for our SNES like Final Fantasy VI, Ogre Battle etc... When I turned around... 12 I saw an ad for RPG Maker XP on YouTube I didn't buy it because I had never heard of a KeyGen until a few months later. Disappointed I searched relentlessly for a free version. I stumbled upon RPG Maker 2003, I downloaded it immediately and to my likings I noticed the graphics were that of what I used to play on my SNES. I was thrilled I constantly made maps, characters, customized spells and so on. It was a dream come true. It took me a while before I realized you could import resources to your game. I was absolutely thrilled, I made a Chrono Trigger fan game, it failed of course it was within the first month of my downloading.

All in all I was 12. I am currently 15. I only use RPG Maker 2003. The only reason I have XP and VX is so I can play other people's RPG Games.

Middle school. It's been a long time...
Around 9 or so. I began with RPG Maker for the PS1. I also dabbled in RPG Maker 2 and 3. I only discovered PC RPG Makers around 2007 or so, when I was 16.
I was 17 years ol' (3 years ago, in 2007) when I discovered RM2k. I found it on a "random stuff-CD" from my friend. Before then, I've been using The Games Factory, but RM turned out to be way easier. Few months later I found RM2k3, and I stick to both 2k and 2k3 since that time. Sometimes 2k is better to make certain games, sometimes it's 2k3. I've never been using RMXP nor RMVX, because these Makers rely more on scripts than events (and I suck at scripting :p).

When my bro saw RPG Maker for very first time he was like: "OMFG, I can create an jRPG like FF with this? Cool!" :D We even tried to develop a common project, but it was scrapped, 'cause my bro wanted more to play Tibia than make our own game :p
