THE SCREENSHOT TOPIC RETURNS

Posts

Not much. But it has been over 2 years since I've posted a screenshot around this place.

Hopefully, the hype level will be tuned down a notch for this latest game.

Fucking bad-ass, Craze! These are the type of screenies that make me question why the hell I still continue to use shitty ol' Rm2k3 while I could rubbin' elbows with the rest of the XP / VX users. Oh well.

I'm just gonna sneak in here and...yeah, dump some stuff. Feedback is much appreciated ;-;

Note: These are all done with the default Ace RTP on PURPOSE (actually it was the requirement), therefore they have no customs (It's for a map donation pack of sorts)

This is Dermod's Capital, Tramian:
(My main project's location, ported to ace. I had to do away with the market at the fountain to follow a strict RTP only style, which is why it looks kinda empty now.)

This is the lake town of Lachlan
(A sword goes into the altar to the left, and the church is the oldest building and holds a bell, which is kinda important)
http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/20322/locker/Lachlan.png

A vampire-ruled town in Rumen
(Vampires here are pretty much just old snooty music lovers, the big building is a music school)
http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/20322/locker/Rumen.png

The hunter's village of Calren
(The bare area at the bottom right is an archery training area of sorts. I modified one of the RTP sample maps for this one (basic structure))

I am curious - are there other Tellah-avatars here? I hope I'm not stealing someone's look. Tellah's sort of become my online logo ever since my Youtube days, what with my username edited into the image and all. I've always liked advising people, so the 'sage' concept stuck.

There was this awesome dude named Asalieri a while ago, but he's vanished. He used Tellah's GBA battle sprite anyway.

Thanks! The best part is that it maybe took, like, three man-hours total? Possibly less.

Tramain looks a little too empty. The rest look terrific, though - my favorite is Rumen. I really like how you have cultural touches, like the pillar on a mound or the music school.
@Allen: Thanks once again I feel that it really made the menu looks nice, as you see the before. :) Whats the news on RC?

RPGmaker 20xx is so awesome!

The bars up top use the special command that draws the health/magic bar is it would appear in the DBS. It can draw the ATB, too. Bars are pretty much the only thing that's not a placeholder. I think the colors are ok. The background behind the bars is a placeholder. I want to make it stylized in some way without being too flashy, thoughts? I'm pretty limited in monochrome, maybe I should make the game in color(but.. GAMEBOY) :/ The icons are placeholders and need work. That space will probably show what is in the left/right hands for use outside of battle. Any thoughts on the design of of top section is mainly what I'm looking for.

Those are battlers being drawn on the map in place of charsets ^.^ That feature is so rad. I still have to try and get an enemy graphic showing in place of the enemy charset. Then I can work towards a real-time CBS that uses battle sprites on the map(if anyone has played FFxi, think of it like that).

The chipset in general needs work to match the outline style of the characters. I'd be working on that if I didn't have tons to play with in 20xx. Still need to figure out how to use a new font.

ADULT CONTENT??? Why's that?

Although there are no pornography scenes of any kind in this game, there are tons of stuff that warrants the big 18+ rating symbol for this project. For starters, the main protagonist is a 45 year old -- already married with a young girl -- Prowler (and, yes, that’s his name) who would rather chase skirts of all different age groups and origins than save the world from financial peril. Also, most of the stuff that comes out of his mouth...

“The Prowler only uses one -- hand -- to do his job!!!”

Yeah...I really don't think it's appropriate for anybody else but adults to be playing this game.

Also, there is a scene where the main character torments the hell out of a Chinese man and calls him every other name under the sun before leaving him out to die in the woods; tells his boss to go suck his tubstick on many different occasions -- including most of his friends; and most of the music pretty much symbolizes James Brown's later works (also, one of the status conditions involves you getting "High" and "Drunk" to raise your statistics in battle). If that’s not “Adult,” I don’t know what is, bud.

Damn I hope I can learn how to map that good in Ace. I'm moderate at best

@Craze: Tremian is empty because the original had a rather lively market in the center aound the fountain (in the VX version). Since I stuck to the default tilesets in Ace to port it, I had no TABLES or merchandise of any sort to decorate it with, to my frustration. I'll probably just cheat and edit a tileset to incorporate freaking TABLES (seriously enterbrain, what do you have aganist tables?) and market stuff.

@Sinister As much I wish my mapping was good, it's more "functional" with SLIGHTLY nice designs at most. Everytime I start getting my ego up, someone comes across with a screenshot that punches me back down to humility. (It's a good thing, but ONE DAY I SHALL WIN THAT PUNCHOUT D<)
@ Indra: Lol well those screenshots of yours definitely had that effect on me. If I had a mapper like you, it would make my job a hell of a lot easier.
@Link: This looks great, I think Im nearly 100% sold. Especially due to the annoying DBS error Ive been getting recently.

Nah, I won't be getting into scripting so don't bother.

Thanks! Sold on 20xx? It will be some time before everything is working, the battle system isn't in place. But it will be so much more functional. I wouldn't put off making any current games, though. Unless it's literally falling apart :s I'm looking forward to the future of 2k3 games.
@Link Oh hey that looks cool! :> Here's what I did for the HUD, it's not perfect but maybe seeing something different will give you an idea.

Also how is it possible to do lighting... outside? I have indoors down pretty well, but I have no idea what I should to for maps that are outdoors. :<

K-hos
whoa You guys are hi-chaining without me? That's just not right. :<

@miracle: Use harder shadows, for example the arches, the shadow should be harder around the bottom of the pillars, not to mention the shadow is curving the wrong way. Also shadows under the trees/bridge would look better

Nice. I can try and work in something like that. There are tons of other icons that don't really fit those lines, but that's one way of looking at it! I could make several different designs and put in an option to change it *writes that down* Thanks!

Love that indoor map. I'd rather find something in the trash can than a treasure chest :P

Outside doesn't really have lighting, but shadows. Maybe overlays, but ehh, doesn't always look good. And it's not easy to have a shadow on everything(in 2k3). Then if you put a shadow on some things but not all, it can really stand out as inconsistent. It looks fine the way it is, imo. Maybe medium sized shadows under the trees and tiny shadows under small stuff like the stump and potted plants. Some of those trees on the right have dark colored grass underneath, so it kinda looks like a shadow. It looks nice, actually.
@Khos : I used a flat gradient for the shadows beneath the arches, so I dunno how they really curved (maybe just some visual trick?) >> but you're absolutely right about the bridge and pillars. I'll try it out. Thanks :>

@Link : I know RPG heroes are supposed to be outgoing but digging through trashcans crosses the line. Also, I did use this shaded grass tile for beneath the trees, but I guess I forgot about some of the other stuff. Thank you! :D
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.
