VX TUTORIALS: ANY GOOD "STARTER" ONES OUT THERE?

Posts

Pages: 1
So I got a copy of VX for a gift, and now I am going to start puttering around in it. I am trying to find a good solid "basic starter" tutorial that gives me a good overview of the program as well as some tips on how to use it effectively.

However, I am not having much luck. Alot of the tutorials on this site (no offense guys) are very focused on specific things and while I am sure I will use them when the time comes, I am kinda looking for something a bit broader.

Anyone got any suggestions?

If you want a "general tutorial" the only thing I can suggest IS puttering around and reading the help files. Help files are helpful. I would also nab yourself a copy of Yanfly Engine Melody.

^Follow that entire guide for more on Switches and Variables (very important if not your going to use much scripting, which I don't think you are since your new)

Hope all that helps.

yanfly engine melody is a set of scripts that upgrades/fixes basic VX complaints and makes it extremely easy to work with

Ah. Where does one get it?
The pockthouse wiki that was hosting it was taken down. Yanfly hasn't put it back up anywhere else (and isn't sure if he will put it up again or not).

I've been chatting with him sporadically, trying to convince him to host it on our servers.

Oh. Well then.

I was hoping to find a side view battle system personally simply because I like that more then the Dragon Quest style.

Also Ferris95: Thanks I had seen those. That should help get me started if I can't find anything else.

IIRC the RMVX forums have the YEM system rehosted, plus older outdated versions like YEZ, and most of the other scripts from the wiki.

RMVX School teaches many of the basics about the engine's event commands, and you can study the game in the editor too!
And before you get started making a game, make sure you fix the "Game_Interpreter" script (it's also mentioned in the link) because it's normally broken in VX.

YEM's fixer-upper script does the Game_Interpreter fix. Melody is an amazing and flexible base for VX projects.
Ummm how does these scripts work, exactly? *is confused by the huge amount of options*
yes, it is very daunting

I think this would help out a lot as well for the basics of VX:

EDIT:
Oh, and this one (my personal favorite):

Wow Kitten thanks! That one on Scribd is awesome.

In fact, I think it may be a good place to start an actual game! :O haha
