GAMESPOT THREAD

author=Marrendauthor=kentonaI'm getting the odd sensation that "Event Winner: Rubi" will be replaced by "Classic Gaming: Hero's Relm". Though I think it might also be high-time to change the "Gem" slot to something else.
welp, tomorrow is monday, two weeks after rmn4 launched! I planned on changing Rubi to one of the suggestions here.Like "Classic Gaming: Hero's Realm"!
At first, I was like "pffft no it won't!" but then I re-read the topic, and all of the suggestions seem to be "hidden gems" with the exception of HR. :<
I was really hoping that this would spur more discussion from the community.
If Aetherion manages to not win the 2011 Summer RMN Games, that would be a decent game to showcase for the "Event Game" slot. Not sure about the other events here, and I'm certainly not aware of games that are here that were made for events elsewhere.
"Wavemakers", huh? Since I'm only aware of what's here (I suck like that), the only games I know of that would be considered "Wavemakers" are the contents of the "Buzzing Games" section.More front page space for Heartache 101 - Sour Into Sweet!

So, what I was thinking was:
1) change the gamespots to "Wavemaker: Starless Umbra" (it got a mention in PC Gamer!), and "Classic: Alter AILA Genesis" (it is a classic, and it got a mention in PC Gamer too)
2) leave them up for 2 weeks as well
3) Starting in October, do an alternating Monday series of Scary games, like "Scary: One Night Full Circle" and "Spooky: MANOS Hand of Fate" etc...
Thoughts?

Well, Starless Umbra definitely deserves it, could also be in the classics, but it's not taking too many risks there... My idea was that it was more for "original games" (they have a section for that at Oniromancie, I think it's an interesting idea), or "forgotten classics" or again " custom games" or again "undiscovered pearls (or gem)", all of them having to be excellent of course but tougher to find...?
(I think that the gamespots need to be a little more established before I start taking bigger risks, tbh.)
What would you suggest for the 2 games right now?

Certainly, Underworld4, not taking any risks but practically unknown and why not "Razor", it's original enough, a demo but so's Starless Umbra or Money & Power also an original game (and a demo)?? (I think Razor remains more undiscovered than Money & Power). At least, people will discover something, SU an AAG, everybody knows.
thx, Kentona (for the greator good of rpgmaker amateur games!), well categorized too, looks good on the front page, you'll have to admit.
Oh yeah, Starless Umbra did make a blog about being in PC Gamer! Derp!
I'm thinking Eyes Without a Face as the feature, Beautiful Escape - Dungeoneer as a possible "Classic" slot, and Manos - Hand of Fate as a possible "Event Game" slot. Though, One Night - Full Circle sounds interesting too!
Sad side-note: I've not played any of these games.

why are you suggesting them. ffs I know there aren't a whole lot of people contributing to this whole thing (including me so this isn't aimed at you) but it's sad that it's come down to "oh... these games I never played look good, frontpage i guess.. meh"
LockeZ

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Any previously featured game is automatically a classic, I suppose. Putting a game that was featured 2+ years ago up there as a classic for a couple weeks seems totally reasonable to me. I wouldn't do one that was featured in the last six months, since they've had enough recent limelight. But the older ones have been in the shadow long enough that they deserve some new attention, and are all obviously good enough. You could even just cycle through different old featured games any time no one suggests anything better. (Not that no one's made good suggestions in here this month - just an idea for the future.)
As far as other stuff to put in the gamespot, I think another good category would be something like Innovation for a finished game that did something either really unusual for an RM game or really unusual for a game period. As well as something like Refined Taste for a finished game that is extremely polished. Neither of these has to be a new game (and in fact a new game that falls into one of these two categories would likely just be the monthly featured game) but maybe they could be something that's relevant to recent spotlight discussions, buzzing topics, or articles? That would be a good way to make it not just feel like a random classic. Right now for example there's a buzzing topic about game trailers, so maybe you could put a game in the gamespot that has a really nice trailer.

Perhaps it's just me, and no offense to Under World 4 or chana, but I get the odd impression it was chosen because chana was rallying for it like a fiend. He seems to have the advantage over me of actually playing the thing (my perception might be faulty on this), so maybe he's right in thinking it's a hidden gem?
I just need to PLY MOR GAMS to have a more decent opinion of what should go where.
Yes, I am actually playing this and it is a lot of fun, and the graphics are really interesting, I would not propose a game which I had no idea of. Of course, I am very favorably influenced by the first of the series I played, and I have no doubt as it being an "overlooked" great game.
"chana was rallying for it like a fiend", this really made me laugh, yes, I 'm rather obstinate about giving just attention to what deserves it (it is not that common).

The way I see, there really are no wrong choices (well, there are some wrong choices, but the pool of acceptable games is rather large, imho). A game only gets 2 weeks, there is no historical record of what games are on there, they are lower down on the page, and they don't even get a blurb or anything.
The gamespots are the "here's a p. cool game to play yo" section. I wouldn't sweat any given suggestion too much.

I can get down with the idea of "Innovation" or "Something Different" - Something along those lines.
Also something like "Eye Candy" or something more broad to encompass games with ridiculously high production values... Not sure what I'd term that though.

Yeah, your "Eye Candy" idea is basically what I meant by "Refined Taste"
Either term works, mine just sounds more snooty

So how well did Under World 4 do being on the front page for two weeks? Asking this damns me by showing that I thoroughly ignored it, but I am curious.

I am going to start implementing the alternating mondays like I originally planned next week. Also, I figured that October could be SPOOKY MONTH. Any other suggestions for creepy/spooky/scary/pumpkin games? I was thinking Beautiful Escape could work...
So I changed the game on the right to Rework the Dead: Evil. I felt it was suitably creepy and spooky for this month's theme.
The other game I have been considering was Beautiful Escape: Dungeoneer. If that is a good choice, that leaves us with just one more "spooky" game choice. Suggestions?
