INTERNET BLACKLISTING, SAVE THE INTERNET!

Posts

I heard america has this Internet Blacklist Legislation to the point even mozilla put in their front page about going against it. They said Your favorite websites both inside and outside the US could be blocked based on an infringement claim and stuff like that.

author=kentona

So does that mean TPB would be blocked in the USA? A talk in the IRC:
<@kentona> not even TPB
<@kentona> YOUTUBE could be banned
<Yuu> oh god yes
<Clyve> That's true.
<@kentona> because it contains content that infringes on media rights
<Nemo> like, a tonne of it
<@kentona> RMN could be banned
<Nemo> but there's always VEVO
<Nemo> ;)
<@kentona> Facebook could be banned
<Clyve> Memebase...
<@kentona> basically any site that allows users to post content
<@kentona> so...basically THE INTERNET
<@kentona> so yeah
<Clyve> Yeah, fuck those anus chews.
<@kentona> most everyone is against it except for media execs in the usa

So like yeah. I thought I should let you guys know about it too~

Personally I'm not to worried. This kind of stuff has been going on for years and if never goes anywhere.

These bills never pass, and this one won't either.

Also, the fact that bills like this get tabled is enough. That "they never pass" isn't a very good excuse not to raise awareness (and fight it, if possible)
Well even if it does come to pass, I hope it doesn't affect the UK. I live there after all... Signed the petition incase.

EDIT: I watched Kentona's video, this is definitely a big thing! Everyone should sign the petition.

It's not going to affect just the USA but the whole world too and if you see the sites, there are senates that are really supporting it!
Also, when it comes to content laws and the internet, the USA is basically the trendsetter for the world, so if the USA does it, places like Europe, Canada, Australia, etc... will probably follow suit.

Except China doesn't really start trends... People follow the USA more often than not when it comes to laws and stuff like that :S
Wouldn't it be possible just to open a new RMN, let's call it "rpgmaker.com" (RMC), if they ban it?
China isn't exactly the country everyone turns to when it comes to human rights :D

There's just so much blockage of internet that is done because of "child porn" and "piracy". I think these things are really daft. And these decisions are made by people who just have no clue what they are talking about. And then the godsdamn entertainment industry that just can't live with the fact that their outdated business model is outdated.

Fucking lawyers. Fucking corporations. Fuck them all.

Considering the Nanjing Judge whatever incident. This is accurate.

I didn't see the vid but sent info via firefox. I Think I'll do some more research to understand things better.
And once again, corporations want to attempt to control what we can and can't do. I wish they'd just give up. -_-
I wouldn't call the US high and mighty in terms of human rights either!

Anyways this is vitriolic but not surprising. If Harper didn't place Canada's ass soundly on America's dick it'd be status quo for me. American citizens need to do what they can to stop and reverse where the batshit insane people in charge are leading their country and everybody else needs to try and keep it from spreading into their countries.

Fuck it hasn't even been half a year since the last Canadian election and now we can't do shit about what's going on except hope the current checks work. Harper already wants to change our IP laws to reflect more of the US's and I don't think there's anything that can stop him now.

Amen to that. Giving him the majority was the worst thing our country has ever done.

I was kinda surprised that Firefox was involved but I guess it means this really is seroius. I get the impression that Mozilla's staff are fairly level-headed and not the type to blow things out of proportion easily. *Watches video*
While i understand the attempts to fight piracy I can understand the concern about possible outcomes that may result in this case and that's not a risk I'm willing to take.
It's not just Mozilla, all the big internet companies including Google are involved in it. It's a really big issue
