Game keeps randomly closing itself. Sometimes in the middle of an area and sometimes after a battle.
@OldGamer,
That seems really odd... Sorry I honestly can't think of why that might be. Is it completely random or does it happen in similar areas or against certain enemies? Do you get an error message before it closes?

I haven't heard of this issue until now so I can only imagine there might be a keybinding or device issue here. If you're still having the same issue on another device let me know and I'll help try to get to the bottom of the issue.

Can anyone help please?

- I can't see the Medic contract after I defeated the titan in Aquaria, can anyone help as to how I can use it? Same thing with Paladin contract, is this a bug?
- How to initiate the Bandit Hideout quest? There's someone at the bottom of the stair who keeps saying that he won't let me through.
- Where to find the Chaos Imp?
- How to get pass the root in the woods east of Galadria?
@blu3,
The most recent change has quest rewards given from an independent program that's kind of built in. That's the only thing I can think of but I've since tested this on a copy of the game that isn't the editor and there wasn't an issue receiving quest rewards from Aquaria or the necklace in the well quest.

Are you receiving any quest rewards at all? This may sound like a silly question but I'd like to be sure before I change anything: Have you checked for the contracts in the key items section?

The most confusing part here is that the Bandit hideout NPC is still there after beating Oceana in Aquaria. He leaves after completing this dungeon, was this the order you went in?

The imp is in a bomb cave east of Galadria, kind of in the middle of the swamp. I'll try and make a landmark map for marks and major landmarks which should help in future.

The roots require a key item to clear. They'll be an obstacle for now but exploring the forest in Elfheim should help with this.

Hope this helps and please let me know if there's still an issue so I can fix for other players.

HD,

thanks for your prompt reply.
- I still can't see monk, medic and paladin contracts after I beat the Titans. I can see Spellsword & Hunter contracts though hence I am pretty sure it's a bug :(
Is there any way you can help to add the item to my save file?
- Sometimes we can't choose which enemy we want to attack, this keeps happening. Sometimes restarting works but it's not always possible to restart the fight.
No problem, I'll just revert to the old system I'm sure worked and rule out that possibility. This will take some time and I'll include a legacy fix with a cheat code NPC in the hall of mirrors. Players can input codes to unlock stuff early to play around with it too.
That is strange that you unlocked the spellsword contract but not the others as they're both handled through the gameus quest system which I assumed was the issue.

The problem with selecting enemies may just be the mouse cursor hovering over that enemy as the game can be played with just the mouse too. Also the 'Taunt' state (Purple harp icon) prevents players from targeting other enemies with physical attacks and in some cases any attacks.

If that issue isn't related to the above let me know a bit more about it and I'll aim to fix that also.

V1.0.12 is out with community fixes along with cheats to play around with!

More info in the included walk through which is a bit of a work in progress for now.
HD,

Thanks for the fix, just want to quickly let you know that I can see Rogue contract in my items now yay!!! Will keep playing and let you know how I go, thank you!! :))
Help pls, How and were do i get the black mirror.

How do i kill ¿tianmat
@fifacv,
The mirror is in a dungeon you find with the shovel along the south beach. If you are playing in version 1.0.11 or later you can find the mirror at any church the first time you visit.
For Tiamat, he deals Water, Fire and Wind damage so make sure your armour doesn't have those weaknesses. He also resists magic damage so focus on physical attacks.
He is also weak to Earth damage so Bulldoze and Earth magic is okay if you're lacking other options.

HELP AGAIN how to kill ¿chaos? and fear¿
i fought over 1 hour with FEAR without any progress
Hello !

I've almost finished ToI and I've really enjoyed it !

The game is a bit puzzling at first, not earning XP - especially because you've got a key item that sets the amount of XP haha ! But once the basics are mastered, it's really pleasant and fun to play.

I really liked all the little quests, achievements and all.

I grinded mirror coins to build fast characters - almost cheating, yeah... - and got the ultimate staff (staff of power) quite early : I think this one makes the game a little too easy, with a fixed strategy : meteor, meteor, meteor (or Flare, flare, flare since Elric was also my hunter) and if I happen to be in danger the 100%limit bar gives access to full healing, since he can also be a saint... Elric rules !

I turned Lauriett into a rogue, and he casts haste all the time, then prayer
Alice first used Ward, and when she get to be a paladin Safeguard once, then Rampart.
BTW, Safeguard makes the battle against death so easy I could "farm" it. Which results in god like characters...

Karena's strength was usefull at first, then less and less. She always used Warcry... As a mage, she gained access to free LB every other turn. Then as a healer, she could haste my mage too. She also came in handy against those few monsters immune to magic or having an auto-reflect.

I haven't found the 4th DeepDarkNotes, which bothers me a lot ! I guess I haven't found all the accesses to underworld... (Jacob's place, antlions, dwarven mine, excavation site on the beach, cave in the mirk...). I do think it's too dark in the depths, you really should increase the light radius of the lantern or keep a normal screen light.

I couldn't get achievement 10 either... Quite strange, because, in one of the screenshots you posted, it's supposed to be related to contracts and I think I have them all ! Maybe you changed it to master of synthesis...

Synthesis is cool. I really enjoyed it. However a lot of recipes are quite useless, and the access to crystal synth is too easy, and crystal weapons make the game veeeery easy, especially the hammer.

There were some typos and mapping issues, but nothing excessive... I may report them if I start the game again from the beginning.

That's all for now.
Thanks for this very good game !
@fifacv,
Sorry I didn't get back to you before. Meant to update the walkthrough to provide some tips but haven't gotten that far yet with it.

Both of those enemies can be very difficult so you should aim for your stats to be end game level (Speed 150, Atk/ Magic 300). I'm sure there are exploits I haven't noticed when designing these bosses and this will be very general advice. I'd invite anyone to chip in with their suggestions if they read this comment.

Fear 99999 HP
=============
Evades all physical attacks, immune to all elements except light.

Piercing Shriek removes all buffs and should remove 75% of HP but upon inspection this seems bugged. He does this every 8 turns so there's still time to set up buffs and deal damage between these uses.

Siphonga will damage MP for everyone significantly so it's important to have the Bow of Wisdom for free MP or the Staff of Power to use limit breaks every turn.

He casts single target death and uses life drain but if you keep your health relatively high life drain won't do much and you can hopefully revive faster than he can kill party members.

If your speed is anywhere near 120 or higher it will be a case just having enough mp to grind him down if your damage output isn't high.

Meteor is a good way to inflict damage and if you're having trouble gathering LB
you can guard for 20 points or equip Limit charms also.

Chaos 60000 HP
===============
Weak to light damage 200% but only 10% chance of reducing stats through break skills.

Uses dark elemental magic and death spells.
If you have enough dark elemental armour such as twilight armour/ demon king cloak you can render most of his attacks useless as Siphon and Gravity are actually dark elemental spells.

A spellsword with a dark tome equipped can use dark veil to halve all dark damage too.

Besides that he uses despair and curse every so often which prevent healing and prevent contract shifting. Having a paladin or lots of holy water should help if you need it.

Hope that helps, I'll have these tips in next walkthrough update with some others also.

@Maximax,

That's awesome, glad you've enjoyed the game! Thanks for letting me know how you've built characters. It's always really interesting to see how others use the available tools and it helps a lot to understand what works and what doesn't.

Admittedly there are some confusing bits here and there like the orb of experience.
That was left in the last update when testing an idea that won't make it to the final game.

I think meteor was one of my favorite skills with how easy it can be to use to get massive damage. Fear actually has one of his moves a bit bugged but I'll have to play around with it.
Safeguard definitely trivializes some fights so I'll keep thinking of a rework as I don't think the atk debuffs and higher mp cost really matter with all the tools available.
The crystal smithy is also a bit mad with how easy it is to get the crystal gear.

Regarding that note:
Note number 4 is in the bandit hideout (mines) after completing Karena's back story.
I think I'll add a quest when the player encounters a certain character to describe the locations as I know a lot of people tend to miss just 1 of the 5.

Regarding the achievement, it hasn't changed and there are a total of 10 contracts. 4 you start with, the 4 from each titan and 2 hidden classes (Spellsword and Hunter). I'll look into this to see if it there's a problem.

Do you recall any specific mapping issues? I know it's only a tiny thing but
mainly curious.

Hello !

I had found the 4th note on my own ! Now, I'm stuck with finding Apocalypse. It's supposed to be deep beneath the island, in the darkest place ; but I can't find it ! Thus, I can't finish the quest... I'm quite sure I've been everywhere in the depths, from the mine, from the sandtraps, from the bandits hideout, from Jacob's house, from Jacob's friend cave and from the cave on the beach... I've searched Darkholme too, but Apocalypse is nowhere to be found... Maybe you could be more precise in the description of the quest (or I'm very unlucky in my searchs !)
Edit : I just thought, you could turn the 5 notes into 6 : one for each entrance of the depths...

The two others were ok to find, but very easy to defeat. Especially since I've already defeated the Essence of magic - which is a real challenge ! ha ha ! The future characters faces are really cool !
BTW, although I'm proud I could defeat it, that fight was way too long ! I mean, if the player is able to survive 5 rounds, then he has a viable strategy : no need to have him repeat it again and again ! The fight went for hours - or it did seem so !

For the 10th achievement, I confirm I have all the contracts (including spellsword and hunter), so there must be a glitch somewhere... I don't really recall in what order I got them, but I think it is : the four first, hunter, medic, rogue, spellsword, paladin, monk. I'm not positive about the 3 last ones...
As for the jobs in themselves,
  • hunter is great for mass spells (sandstorm and so on)
  • medic can be fine sometimes with Quick Skip
  • rogue is awesome (for speed is the path to victory in ATB games)
  • paladin is mandatory in hard fights with both Safeguard and Rampart
  • but IMO spellsword is quite useless.

And actually I almost never used the elemental spells with my mage, but rather the non-elemental ones, like magic missiles and meteor...

I don't understand the description of the Invincible Aura : "The party becomes immune during this battle. PW: 9999 (Origari plains, castle walls)"
Is it supposed to be mysterious ?
  • Party immune : actually, it only grants a 5 turns protection against status changes (just like Safeguard).
  • "PW" stands for password ?
  • What are the Origari plains ? no idea... And what is it about the castle walls ?...
Puzzling...

Is there something to do about the behemoth (or whatever the name) in the woods ? It sure is difficult, but I don't think it gives anything special. And I haven't found any quest related to it...

Speaking of which, I've completed : 14/14 Story quests ; 6/6 gathering ; 11/11 marks ; 11/12 sidequests (Apocalypse still missing).
Did I miss some quests somewhere ?

About the mapping issues, there are several wall or roof tiles the player can walk on, such as the grilles in outer Darkholme ; or in the map where you access the depths from the sand temple (roof passable). I'll screen them when I restart the game.

There's a light issue in the sand temple in the room where you have to light 2 torches to open the door. Light radius doesn't come back to normal.

Sydney can cause a bug in the castle : when you speak to her, she displays messages then walk to the left. But if you talk to her from the left, the game freezes, since the move cannot be completed.
You have to add a condition : if the player faces right, then go down, then left / otherwise, go left.

As I already said, I think you went too far in screen effects : the darkness is too dark and the fog way too thick ! Please, remember the player wants to have fun !!

I forgot to say I really enjoy the freedom in this game : you can go almost every place from the start ! The heroes background is great, as the general universe of the island. The large choice in equipement/contracts is really cool too : one can make his very own team !

EDIT : I was playing on version 1.0.12 I've dl the latest one for my replay.
Hey Maximax,

You're right with the quest descriptions there. On reflection they aren't as clear as I thought. Apocalypse is in the hidden dungeon where the secret final boss is. Once inside if you go up, up, right, right, up, up there should be a green portal. Defeating it creates a way out of the area also.

Originally I just put that essence of magic fight in for fun not intending to put it in the final game. Last minute decision to add it in case people wanted the challenge so not surprising it might need a tweak HP wise. You've got a good point there about survivability. Had a similar experience with a boss in FFX where I hadn't broken the damage limit yet and a boss took nearly an hour to beat so get where you're coming from.

Looks like you've only missed 1 gathering quest.
-Necklace in the well (Galadria)
-Black Flower (Elfheim Inn)
-The perfect brew (Elfheim Apothecary)
-Red Flower (Hopoki)
-Magicite (Masindria)
-Basics of Brewing (Hopoki item shop)
-Dark Wing (Brehzel - House)

Will have to add quest list to walkthrough now I think about it...

The behemoth is meant as a loose connection to the depths but making it into a quest is a much better idea. I'd forgotten about that swamp as it's a bit out the way.

The Invincible Aura is broken and a bit of an old item I hadn't given a lot of attention to. The Origari Highroad is the small stretch of path to the right of Hopoki Town. It did allow for a change of outfit for the characters but the location of that event has since been moved to the hall of mirrors and unlocks in game cheats also (Mainly multiple copies of unique weapons/ contracts).

I'll take some time looking into lighting, fog and issues you've stated above. Thanks a ton for all the detailed feedback! Gives me a lot of motivation to keep working and improving the game and you've certainly given me a lot to work with.

-HD
I think I've missed the gathering quest in Brehzel...
EDIT : Indeed ! I just hadn't seen the character behind his chair !

I was sure I went back to the secret final boss to look for Apocalypse... I must have missed the portal... Shame on me !
EDIT : I thought the paths were straight forward... My bad !

I've started another game with the newest update (v 1.0.14) ! I'll do my best to find every little issue !
Would you rather wait for the end of my test, or have me report the issues as I find them ?
Only if it's no trouble. Whatever works for you. Planning on putting out v1.0.15 this weekend with some fixes if that affects your decision?
Well. I'll post my feedback bit by bit. I'll probably go on a trip for a few days. So I won't be able to test the full game at once.

Part 1

Alice's prologue
  • meeting : you have a stronger resolve then most => than
  • after contract : who wishes to intefere => interfere

Lauriett's prologue
  • He has access to Elfheim ! Maybe it's intended, but it grants access to many quests, items and so on. Not sure it is necessary.
    On the other hand, without that part, Lauriett's prologue would be quite empty... Perhaps you could force the well gathering quest to be done by him, so that he had a little dongeon crawling...
EDIT : I've just realized that every character has access to a fairly big zone, including a town...

  • You can find 2 Saint Staves during his trial

Elfheim
  • Apothecary : me and my husband => my husband and I

Road to Elfheim
  • Farmhouse : a mercant extraordinaire => merchant

Galadria
  • Gemshop : woman patron : amythests => amethysts
  • Church : after picking the silver bangle, the square is still blocked

Elric prologue
  • Hermit : I suppose you're injuries => your injuries

Mapping, general
  • The walls, in the houses don't have the same height : the backwall is 2 squares high, whereas the inner partition walls are only 1 square high. It looks awkward.
Part 2

Road North of Hopoki
  • The character's sprite can be seen above the top of the bridge while he's below.

  • Passability issue due to grass (I think).

Exploration team Tent
  • SE man : incur it's warth => its

Gulliber's shop
  • Accesories => accessories

  • A square is blocked in the SW corner. It remains blocked after the 1st improvement, IIRC...

  • After spending 20,000 : it pained me to abondon our home => abandon

Mage trial
  • With the nerf of Safeguard, the boss was far too easy : his fire magic dealt 0 dam ; his normal attack 90 dam.

Karena's prologue
  • Slums : lady asking for money : she doesn't take the money we give her, be it 10 or 100 coins.

Dwarves' tent
  • Head dwarf, asking about the depths : in the darkness lurks monsters => lurk

  • Head dwarf tells us we'll be able to buy a better pickaxe, but it has been cancelled, I think...

Hopoki
  • Apothecary : quest giving scholar : 3rd step : diffcult => difficult

Graveyard
  • Cliff access : one to the left, one to the right

Sewer access
  • You used the wrong tile for cracked floor.

Abyss temple
  • Zephyr boots room : the black tiles are passable.

Arcane zealot cave
  • scene : Their objectives will (...) intefere => interfere

Brehzel jail
  • Me and my men => My men and I

Equipement
  • The Crystal bow can be equiped with a shield.

  • The Death shot can be equiped with a shield.

  • The Saint hood gives +20 intel. Shouldn't it be +20 Spirit ?

  • The Limit charm doesn't replenish LB.

  • The Flame mace grants +30 attack. It should be +15 to be consistent with other staves.

Darkholme
  • The grille in outer town is passable

  • Center house : You might have seen a cloacked creture => creature

Castle
  • jails : one tile is strange

  • room before barracks : strange tiles

  • wine cave : strange tiles

  • kitchen : strange tiles

  • hall : the monster has a fixed direction the "roof" tiles are passable.

  • getting out from the front gate, while the guards are still there causes the character to stand on the guard !

Achievement 7
  • You could add a little scene with the hunter spirit... I just don't know why I need to get back to this place to get the achievement...

Icy peak
  • Spirit of the mountain : after the fight, the staff reward has a bow icon.

Dark woods
  • prince Maeron (1st time) : it has been claimed by fowl creatures => fool ?

Aqua cave
  • Spirit of the sea : since I welcomed vistors => visitors

Road to Elfheim
  • delivering parcel : the only way to save ths place => this

Swamp
  • The stump-like monster doesn't attack on contact.

Hunters guild
  • Tiamat mark : we have no info on it's fighting => its

Dwarven mine
  • When you go to the depths, you don't appear on the right square of the map (in front of the door near the tracks), but much lower.

Brehzel barracks
  • After Alice gets her memories back : in those crucual moments => crucial

  • and aide you in your fight => aid

Mirror realm
  • The spirit of the land shows black pixels when he moves up and right. That one was hard to screen !

Game experience
  • I appreciated the easier access in the western mountains, but it makes the player skip entirely the boulders puzzle. I'd delete the bridge (so that the hunter's cave remains hidden) and change the climbing vines for a rope. This way the player would have to dodge the boulders at least once.

  • I find some battles much easier, others much harder than in my previous play... Strange ! I didn't recall so many monsters' hit could confuse... You should add more accessories to prevent that status ailment - or make it easier to resist.
