INTRODUCTION

Hiya, everybody!! My name's Julia and I'm the writer/director of Starlight Shoals. It's basically me and...well, just me so far. Anyway! I wanted to make this walkthrough here, yes this one, just in case anybody gets stuck playing the demo or...just really likes walkthroughs, or something. I sure enjoy 'em! My game guides are some of my most treasured possessions! So let's move along to the walking-through, shall we? ^-^

Basic Controls

If you're new to RPG Maker games, you might be unfamiliar with how to play 'em!
Here's the lowdown on how to do that:

How to Move: Use the arrow keys
How to Select/Interact with Objects and Characters: Press the Z Button or the Enter Key
How to Open the Menu or Cancel a Selection: Press the X Button or the ESC Key
How to Run Instead of Walk Everywhere: Press the Shift Key or go to the Options Menu and set yourself to "Auto-Dash"!

NOTE: This section assumes that you're using a keyboard and not a gamepad. If you're using a gamepad, well...you prob'ly know your stuff better than I would! ^^;
OTHER NOTE: I strongly positively recommend that you use the Z and X keys instead of Enter/Esc because they're right next to each other and they're also next to the Shift Key, but you're the player so play as you please!

Part One: Reame's House

Once you gain control of Reame, feel free to check around her room before you exit. You might want to take note of the flowers under the window, the leftovers on the table, and...hmm, those curtains...also, if you're up for a little storytime, check the bookshelf! Once you're done perusing, you can leave through the door at the bottom of the map.

Now you're in a hallway. To the left is Mistress' Room, but Reame doesn't want to go in there, so your only option is to head down the stairs.

All right, we're on the ground floor now! If you want you can step out the door and leave right away, but there's still plenty to do here, trust me. If you examine the gaping hole in the floor (good lord this house needs some renovating), a Rat will pop out unexpectedly and Reame will be thrilled! She'll even want to feed it, which means you need to find some food for him. The kitchen is off to the right, by the stairs, but grab an Empty Bottle off the stand before you go into the kitchen itself.

Okay, time to raid the kitchen! Check around a bit and you'll find Bread in the pantry, some Water you can fill your bottle with, and you can chop up some Carrot Slices on the cutting board. Unfortunately, Reame makes the sober determination that none of this food is fit for a rat, so you'll need to look elsewhere. Any ideas? I got one!

Go all the way back upstairs to Reame's Room and grab those Leftovers off the table. While you're here, you might also want to water the flowers with the Water you found. If you do this, Reame's HP will permanently increase by 10, but you'll lose the Water...oh well, you'll find more of it!

Go back downstairs now and feed the Leftovers to the Rat. He gives you 200 G as thanks! Rats are just rolling in cash, apparently. Perhaps we should keep that in mind...you never know when another rodent might be in need of some assistance...

Now that your good deeds have paid off, you might want to go left into The Study. This place is creepy but it has a tantalizing treasure chest...Reame doesn't have the key, though, and she's not sure if she should touch anything that belongs to Mistress. If you really want the key, there's a way to find it...you really wanna know? o.o

Check any of the three Bookshelves at the top end of the room, and Reame will notice how unorganized they are. She considers cleaning them, but she thinks it might take a while. It will take a while. If you've got five minutes to spare, choose to clean the shelf!...Keep choosing the clean the shelf!...No really, this is going somewhere!...I did warn you it would take a while!...If you let Reame keep cleaning for long enough, Mistress' Key will drop out of a book and bonk her on the foot. Now you're faced with a difficult(?) choice -- either keep the key so you can open that chest, or respect Mistress' privacy and leave it where you found it. Believe it or not, both these choices have benefits, long-term and short! In the immediate future, though, here's what they give you:

-Keep the key and you get a Ruby Pendant from the chest, which decreases physical damage by 10% when you equip it
-Restrain yourself and Reame's Will permanently increases by 5

Now that you've cleaned the bookshelves, why not have a look at the books? Each shelf has a different excerpt to read!

Once you're done in the Study, there's really nothing left to keep you here in the house. It's time to venture forth and see the world!! Exit the Study and move downward to find the door. Once you leave, you won't be coming back for a long, long time.

Part Two: The Jagged Coast

We're outside the house now! If you like, you can pluck one of the White Flowers to the right or left of you, to remind you of home and stuff. There's also a chest that contains a Cherry on the right edge of the map, but you'll have to go all the way around the fence and the house to get to it. When you're ready to carry on, exit through the gap in the fence at the bottom of the map.

Now we're on a giant slab of beach, and you should get a tutorial message telling you how to run, which should be useful in an area this big. First, run directly up until you find the chest containing Bread and a Banana Peel. Now head for the upper-right corner of the map, where you'll find a pathway across the water and your first Save Star, where you can save the game! Now go up to get out of this area.

Welcome to the Jagged Coast! Follow the path down and Reame will notice a bush you can examine to find a Shortbow and some Blunts. Reame also automatically learns the skill Quick Draw at this point. You won't be able to move on until you equip your bow and arrow in the menu -- press X or ESC to access the menu, then select Equipment and assign the bow as Reame's "Weapon" and the Blunts to Reame's "Offhand".

Cross the little landbridge and you'll run into a Slime, which takes you to the Battle Screen for the first time! You have the option of taking a Battle Tutorial here, which you might want to if you're new to turn-based combat or just want a better sense of how this game handles it.

One of the things the tutorial doesn't teach you is what each of the stats (like HP and ATK) stand for, so here's an explanation if you're curious:
HP: Stands for Health Points/Hit Points. When an enemy attacks you, your HP will decrease. If your HP falls to zero, you'll get a game over. You can restore HP with healing skills and by eating Bread and pastries!
SP: Stands for Skill Points. These will decrease whenever you use a skill. You can restore SP by drinking Water and other beverages!
ATK: Stands for Attack. The higher your ATK is, the more physical damage you can dish out in battle.
DEF: Stands for Defense. The higher your DEF is, the less physical damage enemies can inflict on you in battle.
WIL: Stands for Will. The higher your WIL is, the more magical damage you can dish out in battle.
RES: Stands for Resistance. The higher your RES is, the less magical damage enemies can inflict on you in battle.
AGI: Stands for Agility. The higher your AGI is, the faster your turn will come in battle. This is the only stat that won't increase as you level up!
LUK: Stands for Luck. The higher your LUK is, the better you'll be able to resist status effects and stuff!

Once you defeat the Slimes, finish crossing the landbridge. You'll see there are plenty of Slimes and Hornets buzzing around the beach. Neither of these enemies are very difficult to fight -- the fastest way to take them out is by using Reame's Quick Draw skill. While you're in this area, don't worry about dying or running out of SP, because you'll just be brought back to life with all your HP and SP restored. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Head to the lower-left and you'll find a bottle of Water sitting under a tree. Head to the lower-right and you'll find a chest with two loaves of Bread. Now keep going up along the pathway until you get the chance to take a right -- before you do, you might want to have a look at the Stump off to the left. Either way, keep following the path off to the right until you find a Save Star and a chest containing 50 G. You should definitely save here.

Defeat the Slime standing in your way and walk up to the Horse. This, um...triggers a battle, because this horsie is not friendly.

Mini-Boss: Horse

At the start of this battle, Reame chooses to Guard because she can't imagine hurting a poor horsie. The horsie, on the other hand, has no problem kicking Reame in the face, so on Reame's second turn you can choose to fight back if you want. The horse has 300 HP (500 if you're playing the earliest version of the demo...I'm sorry), so if you use Quick Draw on every turn, you should be able to beat him before he beats you. However, there's another (easier) way to win if you're having trouble:
Follow Reame's lead and continue Guarding on every turn. Once Reame's HP dips below half, the horsie will get bored, realize you're not a threat and the battle will end.

Once you win the fight, the horsie will trot away into the forest trees on the rightmost edge of the map. Before you follow him, I suggest backtracking to the Save Star so you can heal up and save your progress. Now head to the right and grab the Salt from the chest before entering the forest.

NOTE: You may have noticed by now that every time you win a battle, Reame has an "EXP" meter that increases a bit. EXP stands for Experience Points, and every time the meter fills all the way, you get a Level Up! Every time you level up, your stats increase a little, and sometimes you'll even learn a new skill to use in battle. Remember, you can only gain EXP and level up by fighting battles. If you dodge every enemy you see or run away from fights, you'll never get stronger, which could come back to bite you later on. Pick your battles wisely!

To be continued as I write more...
