The Golden Letters:

Summary:

The Golden Letters is an Arabian themed RPG game. You play as Naya, a warrior girl who wakes up in the middle of the forest unable to remember anything about herself other than her name. Nearby, you find a Golden Letter sent by an unknown someone who seems to be in some sort of trouble. Noticing that these letters are sent to you specifically, you must now journey to find this mysterious sender in hopes of finding out more about yourself and your past, and why you found yourself alone in the forest.

Good News and Bad

Hello everyone! sorry I kept you guys waiting for a while, but I just had to take a break from gamedev for a little. This also helped me to think a little about the future of The Golden Letters.

The Bad News: I’ve decided that I simply HAVE to switch engines from RPG Maker MV to Game Maker Studio 1.4.

I decided this because I am no coder as of yet, and I most definitely cannot and do not want to pay someone to make the plugins I need for me in Javascript. If I DONT do that, but still keep RMMV as my engine, I’m going to have to use free plugins available online to get the aesthetic/mechanics that I need. In turn this is very risky especially when bugs arise (and bugs always arise) when people play the game. This means that I wont be able to fix them myself, and it will definitely take forever for someone (prob the plugin maker) to help me fix it.

So, to minimize that risk, I’ve decided that its time to learn to use Game Maker, since I already have a license, and I do think it can be a little more flexible when making the game (especially in terms of the GUI, stealth mechanic, and battle system). This also means that I will have to put this game on hiatus so that I can actually learn Game Maker Language.

The Good News: I really love the idea of this game, though it is pretty fairy-tale story-like, so I definitely want to see it to completion and don’t want all the work I put into it to go to waste.

So I’ve also decided to RELEASE THE DEMO EARLY with all the work I’ve already gotten done. This also means that it’s unfinished though, and lacking both the battle system and stealth mechanic. But regardless, there are a few puzzles there as well as Mr. Sassy Mouse, so you (hopefully) should enjoy it! I just need to replace one or two place-holders. I will probably eventually release a second, better demo in the future, when I decide that its time to actually get back to making this game.

Does this mean you’ll never make RPG Maker games again? Hecks to the no! Of course I will always love and make RPG Maker Games! Just ones that I know won’t rely on free plugins for game mechanics that could have serious bugs in the future.
