A Short And Cute Puzzle Game

The artwork for this game is very cute and charming, especially the monsters and the penguin sprites. My favorite part is how the penguin's head bobs back and forth when it walks, and I also like the monster that struggles on the slippery ice.

The game has pretty simple mechanics, which involve moving through a room while dodging enemies, pushing blocks, stepping on buttons, and grabbing keys for doors. I think it was fairly easy, but you do need to plan your moves a little bit so that you don't push your blocks into dead ends. Luckily, if you do get stuck, you can easily restart the level again with one press of a key.

It's a pretty short game, with about 5 levels and 1 boss, and it progresses with the right amount of difficulty. The boss is an action heavy sequence that requires quick thinking and reaction, which is a bit of a departure from the pace of the previous puzzle levels. I managed to win on my second try, but some people might have trouble with the sudden change of pace.

All in all, this was a pretty good game and fun to play, and appropriately themed for the holidays. I only wish it could be a bit longer!

I will not be providing a star rating in this review.

I'd probably give 4.5 out of 5 if I had to rate it, but I feel it'd be unfair to long games to give that to a 5 minute game.

Unfair to who?
While I don't see why the game would be less worthy because it's short it was nice reading the review. Thank you for sharing your feedback.

I do agree with your views on the boss. It's the weakest point of the game in my eyes. I had more planned for it, I wanted change up the patterns and the level layout more than just speeding it up. But it was the last thing I did and I kinda run out of time if I wanted to get the game out before Christmas. Maybe I'll go back and fix it later, but most likely I'll just move on to other stuff :P

Personally, I think the total effort spent on making a game should factor into the rating, rather than just looking only at what % was good and what % was bad. Not to downplay the work you put into this or anything, but I think it's a lot easier to make an excellent 10 minute experience compared to creating even only a very good 2 hour experience (That's what she said! =D ).

But I'm nothing if not nice and supportive of my fellow game developers, so if it's important to you, then alright, I'll give this an official rating =)

Edit: Weird, the stars show up on the review, but not the game page.

I usually consider effort in my reviews too. However it doesn't change my ratings much. Momeka's just good. And while this is a short experience, it's full of custom graphics, systems and polish. I guess I would give it four stars, while noting that it would score even better if the game were longer/bigger.

The overnight batch refresh should take care of that. Check tomorrow.
This whole debate is honestly very worthy. When you start the process of reviewing a game, does it start at 5 and go backwards? Or do you start at zero and go forwards?

Or maybe you could start in the middle at 2.5 instead of either extremities? But really, I think most people just go with their gut feeling, and maybe also compare to other games. They also tend to remember the bad over the good.
