If this is a canal, I would use that brick autotile (idk if it's in the engine I'm getting rusty in my RPG Maker knowledge) to create a border around it, or even just the dirt edges of the grass tiles give it the needed seperation so that the terrain looks more varied and less flat.
Also, unless you intend the player to walk in those empty spaces, you really need something to fill them up.

Yeah, I know, the mapping is really bad. I had to cherry-pick the best maps in the game to pass the minimum mapping criteria for the site (and the mod approving it was fully aware I was doing that, though).
I had considered the idea of remaking this game with improved mapping / etc, but now I'm leaning more towards just making something entirely new, basing the gameplay (but not story, mapping, etc) off this game - since the gameplay (at least in battle) is the one thing this game definitely does right.
