A Demo About Farming

This is a demo review.
This is a review for version 2.2. My playtime: 00:53:10 (based on in game clock). That's the last time i save though, because i only took care of my chickens and calf and then slept to skip the days (and felt lazy to save everyday). I stopped on 20-ish days of Summer since the game doesn't seem to load the next day. This save is on Sum 22.

Intro
A Farming Game is, well... a farming game. It's basically a Harvest Moon clone in RPG Maker. You'll grow crops, raise chicken and cows in the farm that's inherited to you.

Graphics
The game uses cute looking sprites on the game and it looks lovely. I see that the farm's structure looks so similar to Harvest Moon: Back to Nature though. The house is in the top left, the barn is in the top right, the coop is below your house, and there is a fishing spot in the bottom of the area (well, it's actually a river in Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, but still).

Music
The game has a relaxing music in it. I don't really get bored listening to it while doing the repetitive activities.

Story
There isn't much story in the game yet since you can't go anywhere outside your farm (well, actually you can visit the shop, but it still doesn't really matter with the game's story). The game only has the story on its prologue, about how you inheriting the farm and all before moving on to the tutorial.

The game
The game actually has a similar mechanic with Harvest Moon games, so i don't really have trouble in understanding the controls and what to do. You'll be gifted 5 turnip seeds and 300g to start your farming journey so you're supposed to clear your messy farm and start planting your seeds. I find that the character's stamina depleted super fast though. It took me like half of the stamina bar just to make a 3x3 plot (yes, i thought that it'll be like Harvest Moon: Back to Nature that one seed will cover 3x3 plot; i was wrong), plant all of the seeds, and water them.

Tired already?

There's no way i can water all my crops if i decided to fill the fields with crops.. except if you depend on rain and stormy weather to do the watering job for you. Since you can save the game anytime you want, you can just save before you sleep, sleep, and check whether the next day's forecast is rainy or stormy and reload the save if it isn't. I keep on doing that until i don't bother about my crops anymore.

Speaking of weather, the game has 3 weather settings: sunny, rainy, and stormy. Sunny weather means that you can release your cows outside to search for food and you have to water your crops, while rainy and stormy have the same effect as of this version: it'll save you the trouble of watering your plants although i'm sure that you have to put your cows inside. The stormy weather is also supposed to destroy some of your crops in addition of the free watering effect though.

Well, since i rely on the weather to water my crops, there's not much that i can do in the meantime before i can afford to buy chicken or cows. For your information, i'm still not able to buy any cows because you need to have a fodder before that. You can only get fodder from this so called grass seed and they don't give me anything when i harvest them with my sickle.

There are 2 types of chicken that you can buy: hen and rooster. The hen will be responsible to lay eggs while the rooster will give a chance for the hens to lay fertilized eggs which can be used to the incubator to hatch a chick. This chick might turn into hen or rooster and it'll take ages to finish the process. Ah, the cows also has two types, although the shop offers a service for you to mate your cows with the one on the shop. However, despite of the variety, all of your chicken and cows will have the same image in your "profile card".

Speaking of "profile card" (yes, i don't know what the real name is since the game doesn't list it), you'll be shown your name, farm name, and list of chickens and cows. There will be hearts listed on them too if they have any. I only got 1 heart on one of my chicken, although i'm not sure what the maximum heart is and what will happen once i get it to max heart.

Although i can't seem to get any cows, i mysteriously got a calf on Sum 4. I'm not sure what happened, but that calf is like a ghost calf. It never dies even though i never give it food for 10+ days when my chickens all dies when i did the same.

Well, although you have chickens that can lay eggs, crops are still your best bet to get money (excluding the lady that gives you money on the bottom right corner). However, there are a lot of bugs concerning these crops that needs to be addressed. For instance, you can't plant any crops from Spr 17. All of the seeds that you spread will mysteriously turn into dead plant. The same thing happens when you try to plant summer seeds. Luckily, the bug doesn't seem to affect fall seeds.

I don't think anyone will say no to that.

Despite of the bug, my spring plants doesn't seem to die by summer, so it's not like i have any problem to get money on summer. However, the weather on Sum 1 and Sum 4-15 keeps on being sunny even though the weather forecast says otherwise so i was forced to water my plants for the whole day. Fyi, the game lags a lot when i'm on the farm so it's very uncomfortable for me to water them all manually.

Although my spring plants doesn't die on summer, it will still mysteriously die one day before it bear fruit and will mysteriously alive and bear fruit on the next day.

Speaking of seasons, i'm experiencing three seasons in the game (spring, summer, and fall) and to be honest, i don't really notice much difference in it except by the seed stocks in the shops.

Lastly, i never see that "Hands" in the bottom right corner changes. I might miss it in the tutorial, but i can't seem to move anything to that slot.

Pros:
- Cute sprites

Cons:
- Lots of bugs
- The game lags a lot when you're outside.

Conclusion
This seem like a good farming game with good graphics, but it's not really playable at this point because of its lack of features and bugs.

Final Rating: 2/5
As for now, i think that there's nothing interesting that the game has to offer except by the good graphics, but i can see some potential in the game.

Some bugs (including the one stated above):
- You can't plant anything from Spr 17. The plant will mysteriously die when you plant it (yes, including the summer plants when you plant it on summer).
- There isn't any background the next day after you get a new chicken (or chick).
- Your character will gone when you fish and an error will pop up:
Loading Error
Failed to load: img/characters/Tools2.png

After you click Retry button that comes with the error, another error pops up:
Error
Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function

- The top left indicator will gone after you cook and open the menu.
- Sum 1 will always be sunny despite the weather forecast saying that it'll be stormy. The same thing happened on Sum 4 - Sum 15.
- My sprint fruits (strawberries and cucumber) "die" 1 day before bearing fruit on summer and they mysteriously alive (and bear fruit) on the next day.
- My spring plants didn't die on summer.
- I got a calf out of nowhere on Sum 4.
- I didn't get any fodder after i cut the grass from grass seeds.
- I can pass through the "fence" in the bottom left part of the barn.
- Buying Spinach and Bell pepper seeds give me Spinach and Bell pepper.
- The game saves my preferences if i do a second New Game. You'll also be "teleported" to Spr 2 afterwards and skip the tutorial. If you also choose a girl, you will have 2 sprites.

- This will happen when you try to buy seed on summer (and fall). Also, it's every, not ever.

- You can't fill the cow area with grass seed. These are the only spots that you can plant the seeds into.

Suggestions:
- Change the chicken and cow sprite in the "profile card" based on their types.
- Sell fodder in the store too (not just the grass seed).
- The process when you fertilize egg until you get an adult chicken needs to be shorten. The same goes to calf to a cow.
- Center the form that ask for names in the beginning of the game.
- Separate consumable food from tools.
