Small Update

Hey everyone, HorrorBox here,

Back at it again with another 2-3 month long update for you!
I've been working on the game for summer, but not at the pace I wanted to maintain, which was to do something for the game every day (mainly because of life and all of that outside factors). I plan on having some more screenshots to make up for this so you can see how much I've gotten done. Rest assured I'm still hard at work, I want to give my all for this project.
Also I've been debating if I should have another demo, but that's only if I feel like I have more content to show you, rather than build on one section on the game at a time.

I also want to make sure I leave this: Forest Adventure Channel
This is for video progress reports, cutscenes, and maybe memes. I want to advertise it now rather than before when I had the trailer so I can feel more motivated to use it more than just a "trailer placeholder...?" I don't know. I want to use it more to showcase the game.
I know it's kinda annoying I give these month-long update posts, so I just want to make this. It seems I have issues working and then coming back to make update posts. I hope you don't mind them too much. Anyway, thanks for reading!

Looks interesting! I'm gonna wait for the demo :3

A demo just came out if you are interested! :3
Hi! I just played through the demo. Overall, it seems pretty solid in terms of glitches or bugs! The only one I noticed was that when Nathan runs to follow the noise, it shows the map it teleports the player to for a second before the screen goes completely black.

There were a few typos and weird sentence structure in a couple spots:
  • At the beginning when you clarify the controls: enter to "comfirm"
  • Felix's introduction: "cofidence"
  • Nathan: "Yes...Lets" (should be Let's)
  • Ian's introduction sounds a bit unnatural. Something like "Before I moved out, he and I were in the same school for the longest time" flows a little better.
  • "It was really hard to persuade my parents" vs "It was really hard to get my parents persuaded." Again, very minor, but it sounds a bit more like something someone would say in casual conversation!

That said (minor demo spoilers?),
for being a "horror enthusiast," Nathan sure makes some silly horror protagonist mistakes! Following the noise of a wolf alone at night, refusing to leave out of stubbornness, entering an abandoned building alone, setting up camp with a grave within 20 feet of their tents, possibly not recognizing the very distinct silhouette of what looks like his friend in a spooky basement... Nathan, buddy, you can do better. Of course, there wouldn't be a game without any of these actions...! I just found it funny that a character who likes horror would make all those kind of moves.

Also, I'm really happy you went with minimal bloodsplatter in the torture dungeon! Excessive blood gets kind of cheesy, so I felt like you had a tasteful amount (if... such a thing as "a tasteful amount of blood" exists).

All in all, it was a nice little demo. I'm interested to see where the full game goes!

Aaaahhhhh! Thank you for playing the demo, I'm so happy you enjoyed it! I'm happy that there wasn't that many glitches or bugs, and I will make sure to fix that glitch with Nathan and my many typos in the game. Sorry for the late reply, but again, thank you!
The updated demo is fun! You expanded a whole lot of the game in such a short amount of time, I'm impressed. You do a good job of building up tension and making the player want to know what's going on.

Some (spoilery?) notes I have:

The message pops up when Felix walks near the cat, but since there's nothing that pushes him back (like a "player move one step back" move command), you can actually just straight up walk up to the cat.

The scene with Felix first in the door is very dark. I know it's to make the glowing arrows stand out more, but I'd lighten it just a tiny bit because when he turns around, I couldn't see anything on screen! I had a slightly similar problem in the part of the cave with the monster chase, but that was more that I didn't even know there was a path beyond the coffin since it was too dark to see.

Speaking of chases, the idea of the cat chase is really unique and I like it a lot, turning such an innocent(???) creature into a Game Over Machine because of the character's allergies! Though when you walk back into the first map of the Crystal area (where Felix gets the phone call) after going into one of rooms on either side, there's almost no time between you arriving to the map and the cat teleporting behind you, so if you're not immediately holding the arrow in the other way and the shift button, you're toast. The other maps do have a few seconds' grace period, though, so they're fine.

I also just really want to say I love the visual atmosphere you create with the camera! Things like the map zooming out further and further as Felix walked down the hallway, the zooms, and even the default shaking was all really well done and I liked it a lot! Also I love the little "after demo" bit, it's a nice, clever little twist!

(This is really late but) Thank you so much again! Knowing what glitches I missed helps me a lot before I move on. I did notice the glitches with the cat (I thought I fixed that) so I'm making sure nothing happens like that again.
I hope you like any further updates I have!
Although I am a bit confused on the after demo part, there should been nothing after Felix talks to Nathan.
Okay, so
There are many things that I find very pleasant so far, like the zooming camera and the weird, mysterious plot.
But there's a huge problem which makes the demo impossible to finish, at least for me: that cat chase.
Maybe you didn't test it very much, but it misses a delay between us exiting the upper left room and the cat appearance.
Someone said it already, but i'll repeat it nonetheless as I REALLY want to finish this demo, and in a future, the completed game. I find it quite entertaining.
Cheers

I'm so glad to hear that! I'm sorry everyone is having issues with the cat chase (I've been meaning to go back and fix it for awhile now I've been stupidly busy). If you're having trouble finishing the demo,
I believe the solution to fix the cat chase is to head to the right area, back into the center and then right area again. That seems to work for me.
I'm sorry again that you (and everyone else) are having the same issue, hopefully if I add another update I'll have that fixed. Thanks for playing!
