Potentially a good game

Disclaimer: This review was based on v0.1 demo that ends on early of chapter 1. As such it may not reflects the final product of the game once it's finished.

Intro:

Some people may say "Don't judge a book by its cover". But people DO judge a book by its cover. And that's including me. The reason why I hooked to try this game was also the same reason above. I'm sucker of a well-animated sideview battle. And this game has one, plus also has a nice mapping style. "So why delay it further?" I thought, and I gave it a try.

Story:

A story began from a classic trope of amnesia, aka "I forgot everything" (not really) and a sort of reincarnation. You wake up in the middle of a dungeon. The thing you know was "well, I died here. And now I've been resurrected. But why the hell I was here?". And you started from there to explore everything.

The execution wasn't bad. In fact, it was a nice beginning. For me, as the player didn't get spoonfeed much with the info dump. It was nice to follow, and eventually piqued my curiosity, "What was happening exactly?". That led me to keep continuing the game up to the end of the demo.

Characterization is a strong point in this game. Each character has personally and sometimes made me giggled.

However, I saw that the developer was somehow too carried over and ended up made a quite long scene for chapter 1 to introduce the town and the interaction between the characters. I even thought of when I could have my time to walk around and save the progress (because it was ridiculously long in my opinion with no option to skip over). If I wasn't at my full free time, I had to close the game, and if I went back to the game I need to rewatch the entire scene. That said, the scene wasn't bad, it just took time too long.

Gameplay:

The gameplay turned out to be your standard RPG Battle with standard turn order (agility based order). The actual balance was pretty alright, nothing special, but it wasn't badly designed either.

Most of the skills almost looked the same. Sometimes it didn't really make difference between if I want to use attack or skill. The character that has AoE attack also has the lowest agility, which adds to the more minor annoyances of some mobs battles, like "can I have a skill that deals all the enemies fast?". I ended up just spamming attacks. However, the boss battle turned out to be quite nice. You need to utilize what the skill actually do, like some of the skill reduced the defense, lower the enemy agility, and the currently most broken skill, stun for 2-3 turns!

A thing to note that, if you expect some quirky mechanics, this probably not the game for you.

As the demo ends pretty early, I didn't get a chance to actually try the economy and equipment balance (I've got some gold and item to sell, but it had no shop). So it's pretty much just a prologue that didn't cover the entire intended gameplay.

Graphics:

The developer did put love on the animation sequences, which that was the reason I tried the game. But the annoyance comes from the battle camera. Sometimes it scrolls downward, while the actual animation sequence put on the top of the screen (not the center of the camera). Left me a question "Where is the focus of this battle camera actually?"

As for the mapping, it has a quite exceptional mapping quality. That, however, comes with a drawback as well. Some of the maps were alright, some I got teens FPS, and even one digit fps. It's a minor annoyance. Only happened in a town with a crowded event system though. The dungeon was okay. Regardless, the mapping was still exceptionally good.

Music & Sound:

I didn't really pay attention much on the music. Which I can conclude it blended well with the atmosphere. However, it had been said that the musics are placeholder until the game has its own track, so not much I could say.

Overall:

This game has a good potential. If you love to see an interaction between the characters, you could try this game. If you want to see some mapping reference, you could also try this game.

Let's wish for the luck for the developer to finish the game.

Woo !
Not only you gave me valuable feedback (and help) but even a review !
Thanks a lot !
As for the beginning of chapter 1, yes I'll look more into it I was used to play games with long scene like trails in the sky or thing but since it has been pointed multiple times, I guess I really got carried xD
I did say that I was going to write a review :D

As for the long scene, I think this is the first RM game (or, any game I think) that got me thinking of "this scene is too long". Some games I played did have a long pause between the action/battle, but at least between each scene/conversation, I could walk around or do something. All I did wasn't only about skipping text. So it didn't feel that long.
