The Village Guild - by Warpshadow

First Thoughts:
I like the premise of The Village Guild, you are a "commoner" who wants to start a guild and protect the town from monsters. The game features different job classes that you can become, a quest system, and a crafting system. Unfortunately for me, after an hour of game play, I was still a commoner, and quite stuck on what to do next.

Story:
You have inherited your grandfathers farm. But running it has proven to be difficult because monsters are raiding it and setting fire to your crops. Seeking help from the authorities is futile because they cannot afford to have a guard watch over things. So you decide to take matters into your own hands and start a guild. Unfortunately there's a bit of red tape that you have to go through in order to do so. You need an office, members, and you need to upgrade to a different class other than a farmer or commoner.

Game Play:
At the start of the game, you choose whether you want to play as Male or Female, plus you can name your character. I liked this aspect as many games don't do that so much anymore. There's a crafting table in you home, and there's a different crafting table in your shed to make weapons.

Your first task is defend yourself and make a club. Your farm has wood and stone in random places so gather up the materials and then go to your crafting table. After that, it's just a matter of talking to all of the townsfolk to discover what class of character you would like to become. To learn a new class, you have to talk to someone who will teach you. They'll give you a side quest, and will likely require you to bring back some items too. For Example, to learn the Militia class, you'll need to kill a wolf, and either craft or buy a Spear AND and Axe. After performing those tasks however, I was still a commoner and I didn't know how to promote myself. I moved on into the woods area and fulfilled the requirements to become a hunter. Again, I was still a commoner.

Eventually I discovered the way to change my player class, it was a "duh" moment for me, as you simply have to go into the menu and choose the Class Menu option. By this time I had unlocked the Militia Class and the Hunter Class. In this menu you are also able to spend your Job Points, which you can only earn for the class you are currently assigned to. So I had a ton of "commoner" job points and was able to learn all the skills for that class. After switching to Militia, I was earning JP for that class instead.

Your next task is upgrading your home to a guild office. You need only collect 20GP and 20 pieces of wood and then talk to the lumberjack. He'll do it for you instantly.

Your last task is finding someone to join you. I talked to anyone and everyone, and the only person who eventually joined me was the maid Lucy. After recruiting her, I was not able to change her class from commoner even after learning new classes.

Once you have completed the all the requirements to have a guild created, go speak with the mayor, and the demo will end.

Graphics and Music:
The graphics appear to be RPG MAKER MV assets, but the menu, quest, and crafting systems appear to be custom. The mapping is fairly average, and the battle enemies are interesting. I didn't recognize the music choices but it all sounded good to me. The title screen music was decent and I listened to it for a bit, and the battle theme is Final Fantasy-esque.

Overall:
The Village Guild has a lot of potential, but it also needs some polish. For instance, once you met the requirements for a new job class, we should see a message saying: "You have unlocked the Militia Class, you can access it from the 'Class' Menu". Currently if you attempted to talk the NPC again about Fighter Training, he just ignores you.

Here are some thoughts for the developer:

You need 20GP and 20 Wood to upgrade your guild. However, after he builds it for you, you still have the same amount of gold.

The lady at the potion store needs two brown mushrooms, and she'll pay you 4GP if you bring them. However, your inventory of brown mushrooms does not decrease by 2. Therefore, you can keep talking to the potion lady and collect 4GP over and over again.

The crafting table inside your home doesn't let you know what it is at first. When you activate it, you have a choice of "YES" or "NO" but you don't know what you are saying yes or no to. Once you select yes, THEN you realize what you are doing.

Once the house was upgraded to the guild office, the crafting table in there no longer works. You don't get any choices at all anymore.
