- Introduction -

Children of Chaos is a short, small game in development for the first "Seasons of RMN" event. It is a Survival Action Adventure game.
The player controls the former Confiner of the Order Reyn Eremat and is tasked with a difficult mission. Together with a group of rebels, he must escort the so-called Children of Chaos and take them to safety, behind the border of the kingdom of Refdom.

The player must reach the end of the journey, trying to survive along the way with everything he's got. Survival in the wilderness is hard, and Winter itself doesn't make things any easier.

Reyn must survive and must protect the people who joined him in his journey to save the Children of Chaos. In order to do so, the player must feed the member of his party and must provide them with protection when the enemies decide to attack. Sometimes, the members of the expedition will argue, sometimes they will prompt Reyn to make difficult choices. Depending on whatever the player decides to do, some of the party members will begin to question Reyn's command or will grow their trust in him.

If most of the expedition dies or the player is left with minimal resources, the journey ends and it's Game Over.

The game allows for a certain degree of exploration and freedom of action when it comes to handling the affairs of the expedition.


- Themes -

The main themes of the game are Survival, Winter and the cost of "advancing and moving on".

Winter itself represents death, it can mean the death of an individual, but also the "death of an era". As something dies, something else is brought to life when Spring comes. The old dies to give rise to the new.


- Plot -

For centuries, the kingdom of Refdom has been consumed by the war between Humans and Demons. The only thing that made them so different was the Demons' immense power, as both of them were really alike.

The Order, a faction created by the Ancient Ones, managed to rival the Demons power by creating new, powerful beings: the Confiners.
Confiners are individual with the power to confine Demons and use them to their advantage. They are the result of the fusion between a Human's soul and a Demon's soul.

Children of Chaos is set during an "era of transition". Magic is fading, and technology, science and alchemy are taking its place, little by little.
The Order is trying its best to prevent that, as it doesn't want to lose its influence over Refdom.

A "witch hunt" begins. Technology, Science and Alchemy are banished from Refdom, the Order's propaganda marked those things as "The Instruments of Chaos", and everyone who tries to pursue those is either burned alive or captured in order for the Ancient Ones to create more Demon Confiners. To make the punishment worse, the Order decided to dispatch their knights in order to capture the children of those who tried to "give in to Chaos".

Confiners are then created using the souls of very young Humans. Those who are sons of people who have something to do with the "Instruments of Chaos" are called "Children of Chaos". Citizens of Refdom tend to avoid people like them or report them to the Knights of the Order.

During an uprising near the city of Carasco, a group of rebels manages to free some of the Children who were about to be turned into Confiners. The rookie ex-Confiner of the Order Reyn Eremat is also saved and manages to flee from the Order's dungeons.

Reyn, together with the rebels of Carasco, takes part in an expedition in order to save the children and prevent the Order from capturing them and turning them into Confiners against their will.

Will Reyn survive the cold Winter and reach the border of Refdom together with the Children of Chaos?


- Gameplay -

The player controls Reyn, a rookie Demon Confiner. Reyn carries a rusty, huge sword and a blunderbuss gun, made for him by one of the Children. He can use these two weapons to fight anyone who tries to harm him.

The game features an Active Battle System (ABS), real-time combat.

The game consists of various "stages". During the journey, the expedition will settle in in one of these stages and its members will give the player various quests in order to advance the plot or the player's relationship with one or more given members.

The player has to gather resources for the expedition, like food, in order to guarantee the group survival. At the same time, Reyn must help everyone and make decision based on his teammates' input.

Deciding to do certain things will grow certain teammates' trust in you... or will decrease it.

If the player does not pay enough attention to his group or if he makes the wrong choices, people will die or start to rebel against him.

If most of the expedition dies or if the resources are very limited, the journey ends and the game ends too.


- Will the game be finished in time for the event deadline? -

I still don't know, unfortunately.
I'm trying my best, but I'm afraid I have overestimated some things and time is very limited for me. Still, I'm aiming for a June release.

The game will eventually be released either way.

I hope I will release something nice and enjoyable.^^
