Briefing:
At Monday 1st of January at 1103 hours GMT+3, one of our top secret Oka Nieba spy satellites was shot down. Its controlled reentry systems failed to activate properly and it crash landed in the northern parts of Alaska, USA. In Alaska it was New Year's Eve at the time, the perfect moment to covertly introduce a vehicle from outer space into the earth's atmosphere without risk of detection by local populace. We suspect that the Americans are behind this incident; however we can't call them out on it publicly because our satellite does not officially exist. However, because of the evidence we have that it was shot down, the Americans will also not make its crash into Alaska public, lest they risk repercussions by the international community for developing a weapon capable of reaching earth-orbiting artificial satellites. We figured out that the Americans transported the satellite to a secret base in Alaska. According to our intelligence, the base is a Black Site, hosting some kind of Black Project whose funding is not publicly acknowledged by the American government.

Mission:
Your mission will be to infiltrate this Black Site, designated Black Site Vertigo. You have 3 main objectives:
-Locate and destroy the crashed Oka Nieba spy satellite before the Americans are able to decrypt its onboard computer.
-Destroy any information the Americans might have extracted from the satellite.
-Find out what took down our satellite and if the attack on our satellite originated from this Black Site.

This mission is of extreme importance, we can't allow the Americans to get a hold of our top secret satellite technology. Failure is not an option.

================================================================================

Gameplay features:
-Enemy line of sight: The enemies will detect the player if they enter their line of sight and raise the alarm.
-Stealthy kills: The player can stealthely eleminate the guards to pass by undetected.
-Difficult combat: The enemies can be taken down during an alarm, but they have deadly accuracy. The healing items are limited and so is the ammo, plan properly before engaging in direct combat.
-Horror elements: You're not the only lurking in the halls of Black Site Vertigo. Can you evade the unseen dangers of this remote research facility?

Due to the initial release being a DEMO, there are some planned game fetures that will be seen in the finished version.
Planned features:
-Different weapons: Four distinct weapons that handle differently and come with their pros and cons.
-Puzzles: Puzzles that will need to be solved in order to advance through the different parts of Black Site Vertigo.
-Rewarding exploration: The curious player that ventures into every nook and cranny of the facility will find their efforts to be rewarded, either with ammo, special items or documents with lore.

This game was made for the Seasons of RMN event and is focused on winter.

Finished game mechanics + DEMO

So, I've been tinkering on this game on and off since the end of the Seasons of RMN event, and I've made a lot of progress recently. The core game mechanics are approaching completion and I've worked hard on making sure all of them work perfectly in conjunction with each other and that there are no bugs in the system.

Here's a list of stuff I managed to improve:
-Guard shooting range has been increased to be as far as their detection range.
-Guards now have a proper cooldown between shots. Up until now once they started shooting they kept shooting nonstop until the player got out of range. This should reduce the amount of sound spam in the game.
-Made a small change to the guard's shooting sprite so that it doesn't look like they're sliding on the ground when moving a tile and taking aim at the player.
-The player can now shoot every guard they encounter without exception, unlike in the demo where one guard couldn't be shot at all. This was achieved thanks to some nifty changes in the way the game detects if a guard is hit or not.

Game mechanics that need to be added:
-Giving each guard their own pool of hitpoints.
-Adding an extra assault squad of guards that follow the player throughout the base if the player has been detected.
-Adding a different shooting sprite for each handgun the player can use.
-Adding a knife that can be activated with a different button than the handgun.
-Adding a laser sight to the handguns so the player knows their handgun's range.

I'm planning on releasing a new DEMO version of the game this weekend if everything goes well. It should be a massive improvement over the version I released for the event.

Cool take on the winter theme. I wasn't expecting someone to do a modern shooter type game!

1 of 5 episodes? I guess there will be a different entry in the series each event?

Looks awesome tho. You know me, gotta love those character sprites.

Yep, each seasonal event will add an episode to the series, you discovered my master plot!

And it says 1 of 5 episodes completed. That means this episode has to be completed. BUT THE GAME PAGE SAYS DEMO. HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN YOURSELF, OZZY ''OZBERT'' THE ONE, IF THAT IS YOUR REAL NAME?

Shush you speakhole you wannabe Frog. I will finish this game, it might just take more time than I currently have to be finished. I might not get the winter badge for not submitting a whole game, but I will still finish this.
I will keep my eye on this. Currently it seems like this is just a trial version with one minute of playtime, yet it's very buggy. For example, the scientist wants to leave the room through the door, but obviously walks through the wall instead. Also, when I tried to shoot an enemy, it seemed like the enemy died right before the bullet was fired.

Yes, I am aware that the current version is anything but a proper playable game. I'm gonna make sure to fix it up into a proper playable game as fast as possible!

Beta testers!? No, this game needs a goddamn exorcist!

In my case, I couldn't progress anymore because after you first meet the scientist, the door doesn't seem to be one you can enter. But the only room I can go in with a scene in it leads to a game over.

In the backwards L-shaped hallway with the stationary blonde soldier and in the room with the bunk beds and lockers, you can pretty much walk anywhere. Then if you backtrack... really weird stuff starts happening.

Actually, that game over screen is actually the end of this short demo. I really need to get a new demo out there, this mess I uploaded is not properly representing the current version of the game in any good way.

It's not, really. But I have faith. Just be sure and check stuff over thoroughly before releasing it to the public. Don't turn down help either. A fresh set of eyes can see a lot that you won't, but ripping them out and putting them in your own sockets with your existing eyes would be illegal and weird.

At the very least, put a To Be Continued or something in there at the end. That would've saved me about 2 hours.
