I generally don't play horror type games, but I made an exception for this one.

- It has a thought-provoking story.
- interesting characters.
- beautiful visuals (including the custom-style sprites).
- and awesome music --like this one:
.

Spoilery Commentary on the Story Theme:
IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS, DON'T READ THIS.

The Story is an interesting commentary essentially on the idea of one punishment for every 'crime', and how that concept doesn't work;
especially when it's being done by faulty foolish humans utilizing an evil supernatural occult power. :P

Some people imagine Hell to be very much like the Midnight Train --Note: if you go into the teachings about hell, it's not-- I don't know if the Dev was deliberately thinking about that, or if it's just me, but that's how deep the story made me think. ;)

Thankfully, even these faulty humans thought of creating a way of escape.
Though it's not exactly something everyone is able to easily accomplish if they simply decide to do it. . . It's actually a pretty hopeless goal, even those who created it, were condemned and couldn't escape it.

It's also flawed by not preventing/changing those people from committing more 'crimes' (which included accidental manslaughter/self-defense).
In fact some characters are so desperate that they might commit more evils in the hope of escaping this horror.

Yeah...

The one thing that the Train did ?right? (can you even say that) is having the characters have to face their 'crime', even if it was very twisted... And only if you got far enough too, close enough that you think you're nearly out.

Ultimately, though, this train-ride experience was an evil, not a good. Very much a devil's bargain.

- The 'detective' sections were really nice. Having to pay attention to things along the way to ultimately make the right deductions always felt great.

- Discovering the secrets of the Midnight Train along with the characters was enjoyable, I came to care about each one. (I really congratulate the writing, especially the way the writer kept them all different and distinct, without it ending up silly!)
Lots of sad moments, mostly with a hint of hope, but not for everyone...

- Some of the minigames can be a little frustrating though.
Specifically for me the one where I was supposed to 'shoot' targets as Neil, I had to redo that one several times.

Me (as Neil) after failing that, one more time...

- Overall, I had a blast playing this.
And I recommend it to anybody who would love a good story of fighting the odds, surviving great evil and trails, and well, Hope; as long as they don't mind the blood and horror elements.

I'm personally interested to see more from this developer for sure!
Hearing a remake is on the way now, (which adds more story and even Choice?!) Is pretty exciting, even if it might be nice to see some entirely new stories too. (I guess I better finish Aria's Story)

Just wanted to add that this game has inspired me in the production of some of my projects. And that's almost always a good thing!
